  1. Chrysler Corporation's answer to the wheeling question (from the 1960's!!!!). Now, wouldn't you like to see one of these on the trail.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5NsmZcLAdM the "Marsh Screw"
  2. :yeah that: I'm flat broke and this deal comes along...geez.
  3. I'd like to snag one of those passenger side power seats for Ryan's truck. Never seen one in the yard though...do they only appear when the heated seat option is present? Or, are they the WJ seats with the XJ bracket? Otherwise it looks great...like the topper as well.
  4. Yup! I told my son I'd rather have a refrigerator box under I-10 than to go into one of those death traps.
  5. Its alright here, it was around 12 degrees night before last but only down to 16 last night. These crazy southerners don't know to wrap their pipes, so around 11:00 AM yesterday the sounds of water spraying were all over the town where I work...and this morning we had some really neat frozen water displays. At home we live in the boonies, so propane is the only fuel of choice. Its running neck-in-neck with gasoline right now, about 2.95 per gallon. I need this:
  6. We replaced the old windshield mounting system (sealant and plastic clips holding metal trim) with the XJ 97+ windshield gasket. As I watched the installer put it in, he placed the gasket around the glass edge and then used sealant to hold it and the windshield in place. He did not remove the metal pins for the plastic clips first. I am unaware of anyplace that sells the rear window/slider gaskets (unless they come with a replacement slider, which I believe are hard to find). I pulled a spare gasket off a PaP MJ last year...its the only way I could find one.
  7. Not on the inside, but I sealed around the bolt entry locations anyway...just to ensure a good seal. Alexia is correct - the booster does have a whitish foam gasket on the engine bay side.

    4.0

Got a 4.0 with almost new sensors all the way around. Came out of my son's 89 after about 8K miles (he did the 89-99 swap and we dropped a rebuilt 99 4.0 in his). If interested let me know. Its 511 miles away - might even be willing to meet you halfway.
  9. Evidently, the PAP had the tags wrong...perhaps the title they received was incorrect as well...would not surprise me here. You searched for VIN : 1JTHG64P7JT101222 This vehicle's data: Country of Manufacture United States Manufacturer Jeep Corporation Vehicle Type Truck Engine 2.46L, 4 Cyl, TBI Powertrain 4-speed automatic, column gear shift, 2 W/D Body Type Jeep Comanche, 2-W/D Pickup, 6.0 foot bed, 113 inch wheel base Gross Vehicle Weight Comanche Pioneer = 4001 - 5000 lbs / J-20 Truck = 5001 - 6000 lbs Assembly Plant Toledo, Ohio, USA Model Year 1988 Nice little tag though. Checked our glove boxes and they do not have the depression (on the inside surface) where the tag was mounted...wonder if the PO did that himself.
  10. Nothing special. Oh well, first one with a carburetor I've seen in Louisiana, and unless someone's VIN decoder says otherwise, it was listed as an 86. EDIT: Why do I bother?
  11. Found this old, sad looking girl in the PAP on Thursday. She had a inspection sticker for 2012, so she had been running recently...but the carbureted 4Cyl under the hood was surprise. It is literally the first one I have ever seen in Louisiana. Unfortunately, it was bathed in oil, dripping from everything in the compartment. My suspicion is it threw a rod or had some other catastrophic circulation system failure. Second big surprise was a shiny aluminum tag mounted in the glove box with the VIN and other numbers embossed on it. I peeled off the tag for a keepsake and got a tailgate and tail lights off her. She was a column shift with full gauge set...almost looked li the Laredo package (but I don't think they made them then). Anyway: her final pics: I will also enter her in the registry.
  12. Wow. Sorry that you had all those problems. We generally were warned off the V8 motor in early 99, and from you stories and other cautionary tales I'm glad we did. I do see quite a few WJ's with the V8 motor in them in the PAP yards now.

    Dash Cams

We use digital ally, which is a camera built into the front of a rear view mirror. Can come with a microphone. Records to a memory chip that can be downloaded. It also has a camera embedded in the mirror side for the back seat area. Upside: Absolutely clear pictures and good sound. Downside: About $5,000.00 clam each.
  14.
  15. We presently have 4 of them in our household (and close family). I would stay with the 2000-2004 range, or jump to the 2008-2013 range due to the poor oil circulation in the 2005-2007 year V6 engines (causing sludge buildup inside the engine). The only problems I have had with them is CPS replacement on an 04 at 123,000; and an intermittent engine wiring harness short on an 03 at 134,000 miles (the engine harness on the 03 wraps around the back of the valve cover closely, and gets quite warm. It had partially melted and the # 1 fuel injector wires were shorting. Some insulating wrap solved the problem). There have been reports of the rear window regulators failing because the gear for the window motor is a soft plastic. I had to replace one on the 03, but we had purchased that one used. The ones we've had since new have not had that problem. Some folks have complained about the 45RFE, but its been good to us....
  16. Wow - my old brake problem has bit another MJ in the , ah - pedal! I went through 4 quarts of brake fluid bleeding the brakes with a power bleeder over and over again when I finally posted that thread. We finally solved the problem by manually loosening the lines at the "T" under the bed and bleeding them. I kept the proportioning valve and the height-sensing valve from the MJ in the system without modification; solving the problem involved a second person disconnecting the lines at the "T" one by one and having the person in the cab push fluid out of them until they observed a solid stream (Obviously, with the line undone I would press the pedal down and hold it until he plugged opening with his finger, then release the pedal). After that process was done on all three lines I have brakes like never before....
  17. Don't like egotistical folks, this forum is no place for them. When the "I know everything" folks started answering every post awhile back, I didn't whine...I just stopped posting as much and watched. We are here because of our interest in Jeeps. It should not (IMHO it does not) matter how much experience you have, or lack thereof. I could care less if you've spent your entire life working on Jeeps, there is always something new to learn. We are (mostly) adults here, and should know how to act - even if we are correcting someone or being corrected. Believe me when I say this: there will always be folks here who think they 'know it all' (and are not afraid to try and convince others of that fact) as well as butt-hurt folks because of some perceived slight they have experienced. If you cannot play nice in the sand box go find your own. No one person here is any more important than anyone else - we all have value to add by both asking questions and providing information. If my comments irritate your butt, so be it, but its time for this love fest to be closed.
  18. I have one, but I am about 250 miles away (Covington, la. 70433). It has no rust, but was in a minor accident where there is damage to the rear corners. It is easily repairable with moderate body work skills. If you are interested I will post pictures.
  19. Hmmm...OK - I'll officially 'Darn You' as well Alexia...lol We didn't even think about a CIPA mirror, we salvaged a mirror out of 98 Grand Cherokee that had the day/night electronic switch.
  20. My F-I-L was a retired Chrysler engineer, and we have enjoyed this program up to his passing (although it is still available to us through his wife we have not recently used it). The program requires you to call a special phone number and get what is commonly called a 'Green Sheet', which you must present at the dealership before you seal the deal. The discount is calculated as the dealer cost less the corporate advertising contribution and dealer 'hold-back' (of course, this is different on every model). The "factory invoice" is whatever the dealership wants it to be. The ones you might be shown while at the dealership have no bearing on what the actual invoice cost from Chrysler is. They will never show you that one until you present the green sheet. You can do trade-ins with employee pricing, but each dealership handles them differently, and they do not have to take them. In our last purchase, we negotiated the trade-in value before announcing we had a green sheet, but that really P.O.'ed the sales manager...... At one time there was a clause you had to select from the dealer's stock, but that has since been lifted and you can order the vehicle the way you want. In the past some dealerships would play silly buggers with the dealer invoice to try and make a few more bucks, but Chrysler got wise and started checking the deals much more closely. Now its a very straightforward transaction.
  21. Despite all the good responses, I'd suggest checking for vacuum and/or TB/manifold leaks the simple way: Start truck Spray TB or Carb cleaner at the various areas in question. Take care to check the manifold gasket first before it gets too hot. When the idle changes abruptly you've found the problem. If you are worried about the high RPMS while doing the test, unplug the MAP sensor. This will artificially lower the idle, (but will obviously will produce a false reading if you spray the cleaner there). Let us know what you find.
  22. Hmmm. Figure the door hinges got sprung when they deassed that thing?
  23. Wow. Wasn't Rob looking for that 'Porno red' interior? That's surely why the owner is asking 14K right?
  24. Because assteroids don't orbit around Uranus?
