  1. My only issue with running them along the side so you can avoid cutting them is.. it makes the rig wider. Around here most of the trails are narrow, cause mostly tj's run them, and they like putting tight switch back turns in them.. so for the longer vehicles have problems. If it was me.. I would either put a rusty bed on it.. and take that one and have linex sprayed on the bottom and set it aside.. or buy a 3" hole saw.. and build your mount that way.
  2. The difference is rollover protection and looks. Right now if you roll over.. your tank will leak. Might even leak in a flop... I know mine did
  3. I can't find the site at the moment, but there was a place that sold what amounted to 1/4 wall 1.5 tubing with a johnny joint on the end. Basically you screwed it on the bayonet and then welded it to the arm. As pointed out.. you could make one cheaper though. Pete to me the point of extending them would be so You caould build one x-member with the mounts and for the trans.
  4. Yeah it has a full rear pack.. See thats the thing its pretty cheep.. I mean I might take this Jeep off road now and again. Nothing crazy, but I do lots of camping and I might gain from it, vrs lose from at least not giving it a shot..... arggggggggggg :fs1: If you don't get it.. Hook a brother up with a deal.. I need the rear springs.. I don't care if they are rusty's. The springs under the Turd have some neagtive arch going on the passenger side
  5. If you wheel it without the side protection.. you will end up cutting them off anyways. SO the solution is easy....hole saw a hole in it and run the protection down the out side so you can hang on all the narrow trails that wranglers love to lead longer vehicles down :brows:

    True use of tools

I have all of them in my garage.. plus a few more.
  7. lol.. that made me chuckle... Like I said more quality kits are available for that price
  8. Yes they can be used, but there are other issues. The WJ unit bearings have a different bolt pattern then our rigs. So you have to deal with that. The CV shafts are not as strong as the 297 shafts that the later xj's have. Also the 297's can be upgraded to 760 joints making them much stronger. Also if you plan on re-using the stock axles the stub shaft is too long, which means you have to get a spacer and weld it to the knuckle.
  9. First we need to know what kind and size of tubing you are going to use. If you plan on going full width.. why not shorten the frame up a lil, and move the front mount forward, and move the rear forward as well so you could use xj lift springs  On that note... A fuel cell that is properly setup, wil look much better then the gas tank sitting there.
  10. That could be construed as an abuse of said power. :D Could just be having a good time at his expense.. he could change it back :smart:
  11. I would say buy it.. and flip it for a small profit. I would buy the springs if they are true 4.5 springs and not an AAL. I have run Rusty's 808 coils (6.5) and I really liked them. I got them used and abused the hell out of them, and still have them in my garage.
  12. For that price you could buy a RE or a tnt kit
  13. Some one with the power change his avatar  As for the chevy.. they make great parts donors... especiallyif they have d60 and 14 bolt :smart:
  14. If you don't get it.. hook a brother up... I need one for my back deck :smart:
  15. If it was me. I would unbolt and remove radiator. then the washer bottle and air box. remove and label (if you like) all vacuum hoses, and electrical connections. Unbolt egr pipe from intake Then loosen the powersteering pump (don't forget the bolts on the backside) Unbolt power steering pump from intake Then unbolt intake and ehaust from the motor.(when disconnecting the fuel line might want to go to the stealership to get the new o-rings.. mine have always leaked on reinstall) this is also where unbolting the washer bottle and air box makes it easier Then Unbolt the head. The last bolt on the drivers side is a pita. Using mechanical means (chainfall, cherry picker) remove head. Clean and reassemble
  16. As to which swap is easier.. the 4.0 or the chevy 4.3. well that depends on what parts vehicle you have laying around. If I had a wrecked 4.3 blazer, s-10 or fullsize truck.. no real probelm there, but if i was to have to by stuff like adapters, wirning harness and stuff like that.. The 4.0 swap becomes cheaper
  17. don't know enough about dodge drivetrains, but at the very least advance adpapters is the place to start.. then check out Novak site as well. I would swap motor and trans out of the ram, and then find the appropriate drivers drop t-case. D44 rear, and at least a built d30 up front or a d44
  18. Search for Posts by MJjeff in the build threads. He just did this swap in the last few months.
  19. A 4.3 fits fine in the xj/mj front end.. I know I have one  and it is for sale as well  All you need is 3" of lift and Advance adapters frame mounts (around 190), along with the chevy drivetrain, and wiring. Anyway back on topic. I was Jeff's parts supplier when he did the swap. There are a lot of lil things that you will need that no one thinks about. It is best to get a whole rig and do the swap. I can't tell you how many times Jeff had to come back down, or called to ask me to check on something. OR you can sell your 4 popper one and buy one with a 4.0
  20. It could be that or a bad coil. Since the distributor was replaced.. I have to ask why.. they normally don't go bad.
  21. I can tell you they are not the same shocks. I helped Jeff do the swap... I think those are from a yota or something. Jeff left my house with no shocks installed If I remember right
  22. Mna I sure wish you all were closer... I have a set of celica seats that look awesome in Xj's and I am sure would look awesome in a MJ.. as well as a set of brackets.. At least I think I have a set. Also I know the tricks to make brackets :brows:
  23. Whish U-joint are you talking about. Most of your driveshaft ones you should be able to get to.
  24. I too like to pay places to do a job that you know is a pita.. especially when they quote you a price as good as that one. it is priceless that you had to tell them how to do it as well. Score 1 for the customer... I hope you called their corporate office to let them know about it as well. I wonder how many customers got screwed by incompetenents (sp)
  25. :agree: X2 I just posted them pics so you could see what it looks like
