  1. I thought you had to remove the carrier to get it out...
  2. It's gotta be something with the toe. You should still check it to make sure it's in - never assume it stays put when you change crap.
  3. Put some wood bench seats in the back with seatbelts.

    Lightning!

I agree - most good surge protectors have provisions for a phone line, and the higher end ones even have coaxial jacks. IIRC, I even saw one with ethernet too.
  6. The linkage you got is for a 4.0/auto/231, yes? Manual or 2.5 linkages won't work.
  7. Just be happy you don't have a 91-92.
  8. Ah, the orange and black cylinder of death.
  9. Did you put the 3.73 axle in? 2.5/4 speed should have rolled out of the factory with 3.55 in the axle.
  10. 91 could be either an NP231 or NP242. Obviously you'll need the shifter handle/gate/linkages that go with it. As mvusse said, the speedo cable hooks up to the tail housing of the transfercase. There's a good chance your 2wd speedo cable will not reach.
  11. Photobucket seems to have deleted the other one :hmm: , but on the bottom of the PS pump, there's a long horizontal bolt that is the actual adjustment.
  12. Speedo won't be an issue. Unscrew the electronic part from the 91 T-case, and your cable will screw right on. Is this for a 4wd swap? If so, you may need a longer speedo cable. Yes, it matters what motor the AW-4 came from. Due to the extremely low amount of 2.5/AW-4 combos made, I'm guessing it's from a 4.0. If it's from a 2.5, the bellhousing and converter will be different, as will the TCU, and I believe the trans itself will be set up differently. What happened to the 96 T-case?
  13. Yes, "newer" would be 91+. And yes, you'll need the HO TCU to put the 91 AW-4 in your 89.
  14. The 8.25 is a much beefier and stronger axle than the D35. Especially since you have the 29 spline version (97+), your current XJ axle is near in strength to a D44.
  15. Dana 35 axle tubes will be the same. I'm betting your 98 XJ has a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle.
  16. Pukeys are 21 spline. AX-15s are 23. Older AW-4s are 21, newer ones are 23. I believe the changeover was 1990.
  17. Reattached the transmission, put front wheels on it, pulled the front bumper, and attached the tow bar. Now, hopefully, in two weeks, I can clean out the bed, hook up to it, and haul it home.
  18. Unless the 96 NP231 came from behind an AX-5, you should be fine. That 96 probably has a sealed output, so it's going to affect driveshaft length.
  19. All suspension components between a 2wd XJ/MJ and 4wd XJ/MJ are the same.
  20. Why'd you space out the address so it's not clickable?
  21. Uses a hell of a lot more on mine.
  22. You didn't kill the AX-5 with a 2.8. Pretty hard to do that. The AX-5 isn't cheasy. Calling it such because you put more power in front of it than it was deigned to take isn't right.
  23. The speedo cable is not a problem. The cable sender and gear should go into the 96 case just fine. You cannot use the newer input in the older case. The gear pitches are different and will either not fit or ruin your case. The sealed output cases are much better anyway. You can drive without the rear driveshaft in, if need be, and not lose any fluid. Your best option is to use the 96 case and just have your driveshaft shortened the inch or so that's necessary.
  24. What axle gearing are you running?
