500 MJ Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 I wonder if using a hot knife / hot wire would work well to cut the old lens from the housing?
Roadrunner Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 could try it but you are still looking for a viable sealing system afterwards... I personally love sikaflex.. the stuff is amazing but not sure if this would be a good application.
89 MJ Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Another part to consider when readhereing the lens to the housing is that it has to be temperature resistant. Now, not super high temps, but it can’t melt from driving around at night with the lights on.
Aussiemj Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Hi guys what glue do you use to join the back to the front thanks paul
Pete M Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 gluing together headlights and tailights is fairly common (for light upgrades). I'd wager you'll find several methods at youtube random pics of the housing I have. trying to show what it's like with the lens removed. keep in mind the one reflector is missing.
TieDyeJK8 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 The new lenses look pretty sweet. Should have both done and on my MJ by the weekend 😁
fiatslug87 Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Looks like you need a nice paint job for those to look proper. I’ll stick with my patinaed ones.
Pete M Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 uh, oh. I sure hope they bought more lenses than 20 of each (I'd honestly be shocked if that's all they made). but either way black trim are sold out on ebay and red are close.
Limeyjeeper Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Just got the new lenses from Key Parts. Very impressed. Great quality.
ktmall07 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Wow those look good! Almost worth buying a backup pair!
boxyjeep Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Anyone 3D printing the housings yet? I'm going to feel bad chopping mine up...
Minuit Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Yeah, I definitely want a pair, but I'll wait for another option for housings. I don't want to butcher my originals.
RustyRodder Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Likewise with the housings... I have a 3D printer ready to go, if only I knew how to design the housing
