how many turbos is too many...

Because.... Race car?

There has to be diminishing returns having that much resistance on the exhaust.  Also would require a VERY large oil reservoir somewhere to keep those all cool.  Curious if they will finish and make functional or if it was just for the photo.

The builds I've seen like this are mainly for show, they do look and sound cool.

It would likely make more than adequate power for a show car, but wouldn't be ideal for all out performance.

That just seems like way to much. I can't imagine all the plumbing involved in that setup. I mean 16 oil lines to start let alone everything else.

all I've found is photos but it appears that he's into drag racing.  I so wonder how much power he'd make versus a single giant turbo and how long that block will last.  :dunno:

It might be for the quicker spooling. From my knowledge on turbos, smaller ones typically spool quicker than larger ones. :dunno:

:yeahthat:I've seen this build floating around on the interwebs and that seems to be the reason. It is going to be a dragster and its just plain cool 8 turbos

'tis true, but for drag racing you can wind it up before launching.

Maybe he has longer gears in it though so he doesn't need to shift as much and wants the quicker spool to have more power to make up for the lower RPMs, but I'm no drag racing expert.

we can guess til the cows come home on the technical advantages, but I think we all know deep in our hearts that either he just thinks it looks cool  :D

Id really wonder how well those would actually build boost, as each cylinder has its own turbo, there is a period of time between each exhaust pulse, the turbine speed would be up and down and thus boost as well from each turbo. I just don't think one cylinder could spin it fast enough to build any usable boost. When you have them all into one big one, the timing between each exhaust pulse is very short, thus allowing for more turbine speed and thus pressure buildup. Even cumulatively I don't see all those building as much boost as a single could. I wonder too if boost could be lost due to the exhaust pulse timing at each turbo. When one is building pressure, it could be lost backwards at other turbos that are in between pulses. Yes it looks cool, but I don't see it being anything other than an excersize in engineering.

I wonder how much the turbos harm the visibility. It looks like a huge obstruction to me (not that that matters as much for a drag car).
