88mjsally Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 Not a good day for the grey comanche. I drove it to run some errands this morning and the starter decided to die again. I left it sitting at the post office and came back later with my friend and my new dolly to tow it home. Just had to make the tires a little smaller so they’d fit in my straps. Plan to pull it apart tomorrow and change the starter and maybe fix the exhaust leaks
88mjsally Posted September 28, 2021 Author Posted September 28, 2021 Finally got a new windshield put in the truck. Decided to go with the 97+ rubber trim and it’s much better than the old metal trim. Other than that I haven’t had much going on aside from maintenance and driving it back and forth to school everyday. Last semester though so after I graduate it might go back to weekend fun driver status and the blue stock truck may become the daily for a while
MiNi Beast Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 I so would of cleaned the dash before install. Look like you gots clarity. Thats on my list soon as well. thanks for sharing 👍
88mjsally Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 Well after being my daily for a few months the truck is broken again. One injector is not firing at all and another is barely working. Just took the throttle body off and it’s off to Holley tomorrow for 4 new injectors. Truck has run bad for a few weeks and got to the point when it wouldn’t idle at all. I’m graduating in a few weeks so the truck will likely end up having to be trailered home
88mjsally Posted December 18, 2021 Author Posted December 18, 2021 Throttle body came back in time for me to drive the truck home. Runs really good now and only needs some minor tweaking as well as a brake upgrade. I installed a new to me knakk tool box today and it’s much better than the cheap ranger one I had in it
MiNi Beast Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Glad to hear its running smoothly again. Thats a real nice tool box. Good upgrade.
scguy Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Nice box, shame about the Clemson sticker though. Go Cocks!
88mjsally Posted January 9, 2022 Author Posted January 9, 2022 Had to do a little more tuning on the truck but it’s still running pretty good. Just having some issues returning to idle at times for some reason. I went and picked up my long bed blue truck from my buddy’s house with it today. Towed pretty well on the dolly and it’s not often you see a comanche towing another comanche. I need to make the trailer brakes work and do a booster and master upgrade since stopping was a little hard but it did well overall. Peep the wrangler in the background after having to push the blue truck on the trailer

Limeyjeeper Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Your idle issue might be the PCM not getting a speed reading. Not sure how the Holley works but the GM PCM needs to know the vehicle is moving or it can stall or the idle can be unstable.
88mjsally Posted January 10, 2022 Author Posted January 10, 2022 Drove the truck to a car show today and it did decent but still need to mess with the tuning more. Started wiring the trailer brake controller up as well since I have a 94 Cherokee country to pickup this week for parts
88mjsally Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 Towed home another parts Cherokee today. Truck did pretty well, stopping is much better now that the trailer brakes function
88mjsally Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 Finally figured out the return to idle and running issues with the truck. I had installed a throttle body spacer a while back trying to fix another issue which was probably the bad injectors. Turns out it wasn’t the right shape for the intake so it was creating a vacuum leak. Pulled it off and reset the idle and it runs much better
88mjsally Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 Replaced the cowl seal today and it needed it for sure. Plan to finally put the wire loom on the efi harness and do a few other little things before it goes to a car show in march
88mjsally Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 Some people really just suck. I went to visit my girlfriend this weekend and took my dads car since it’s more interstate driveable and the Jeeps all stayed at home. My dad drove my tj to the airport and we figured out last night that someone decided to siphon the gas out of both my grey truck and the tj. Dad just thought my Jeep was empty and filled it up but the grey truck was so empty that I apparently melted a wire trying to run the pump with no gas. It’s all good now and locking gas caps are on the way
jdog Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 That does Suck, at least they didn't drill the tank
88mjsally Posted March 17, 2022 Author Posted March 17, 2022 It’s a show truck again with my dads Divco milk truck that we got finished up a couple months ago
88mjsally Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 Updated the look of the grey truck with the jk wheels and spacers that nobody seemed to want. The other tires were getting older and these fit much better. I was even able to take the washers out from under the steering stops. Sadly I found a bad rear axle wheel seal so I need to get that fixed
88mjsally Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Not going great for this truck recently and I’ve really been tossing around the idea of selling it. When the starter failed it chewed up the flex plate and bent it up where it mounts to the crank which was causing the starter bolts to keep getting bent. It finally got to the point that it killed another starter so I had to change the fleet plate. Couldn’t get to one of the bolts so I had to cut a hole in the floor to get to it. It was also not running great when the starter died so I changed the spark plug wires since I found a burnt one and addressed the exhaust leaks at the collector. I was going to change the rear main seal and oil pan gasket while the flexplate was off but didn’t have enough room to drop the oil pan so I just gave up on that due to a lack of time. I bought new alloy USA axle shafts for the truck with bearing and seals as well but they came with the wrong retainer plates. I’ve been waiting almost 2 months for the correct ones which I’m hoping will arrive soon before the annual car show in Myrtle beach. Did get a mj specific topper which will eventually go on my red truck if I ever get it back together. The plan was to try to do hot rod power tour this summer in the grey truck but not sure if it’ll will happen or not due to this truck being really good at breaking
Pete M Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 crap happens. happens with all old things. part of the fun of Jeeping. you got this
88mjsally Posted June 16, 2023 Author Posted June 16, 2023 Sad end to this project. Got tboned while doing the hot rod powertour

coheed Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Sad to see. Always an awful day when someone you've spent so much time and effort in gets wrecked. If there's no frame damage you could link the rear? If there is you could build a truggy
