A College Students V8 Comanche

Recommended Posts

Well the truck hasn’t really been breaking very much so I haven’t really had to do much other than drive it. It did get new headlights a few weeks ago which help a lot.

The big change is to the interior. I had put a dodge Dakota split bench in it which I liked but it still sat a little high. I also wanted to go back to the factory buckets and some sort of console. I found a very nice set of black factory buckets over the summer in a 4 door xj that I decided to use. I just needed brackets for the Comanche so I bought a pair of grey mj seats with brackets to use. I took the grey ones apart and swapped brackets to the black seats. I put the seats in this past weekend and I already like them a lot. It just left me with a console to make or modify. I took a pretty nasty 97+ one and cut it up to mock up for my giant shifter. It fits pretty well and I plan to cut up a nicer one when I find one since I just used this one to test my idea. I also need to do something about the front gap which I plan to fill with a panel and a trailer brake controller. Overall I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I just need to get rid of all the extra seats now😂

i ran same set of seats in my MJ at one point. :beerbang: i dig em . hows your cooling fan setup working?

For some reason I’m just now seeing this. It’s keeping it cool with no issues at all. I sat in the drive through for 20 mins on a 90 degree day and it never got over 190

The truck has been kinda a pain this year. It doesn’t like the cold weather and still is having timing issues. The only way to drive it right now is to let it warm up otherwise it dies as soon as it goes into gear. I got a new Holley distributer for Christmas and drove the truck 4 hours home to install it. However after we got it all apart I realized that I needed a coil and coil driver so it’s currently in my parents driveway in pieces while I wait for those to arrive. Hopefully that’ll fix my timing issues for good and let me get the most out of my efi. I also added a spacer to the intake since I have a dual plane and it was causing some performance and drivability issues.

I also got some nice new parts for it including a mint rear bumper (Thanks Daeson!), some interior stuff and 97+ wiper arms. I’m going this coming weekend on a road trip to meet another member and pick up something else for it that I’ve been wanting since I got the truck. After that I’ll likely do a brake upgrade and try to enjoy it without having to wrench on it all the time. I do want to find a decent black interior to swap into it since I now have black seats but that’s not a big priority right now

Had a pretty good little roadtrip this weekend up north. Thanks to @saveevryjp1998 for the mj 44! Now I just need to swap out the brakes for the new parts I have then I’ll swap it into my truck. I also plan on trying out the $30 harbor freight portable sandblaster to clean it up then paint it black. I also found a few other goodies in a few yards along the way there and back

It means they won’t let you ship something as is. Has to be in a box. I tried to ship my brush guard. They wanted to throw it in some sort of box and tell me it’s gonna be $150 to ship 30lbs of metal.

huh that's weird. Thanks!

Got my truck all back together and running this weekend with the new hyper spark distributer. I just had to install a coil and coil driver then we cranked it up. It runs so much better now and I drove it 4 hours back to clemson with no real issues. I also got my new 44 all sandblasted and painted so in 2 weeks when I’m on spring break I’ll get the brakes rebuild and swap it in. I forgot to take more pics of the distributer install and wiring but I’ll try and do that this week

Decided to test the pile of stock radios I had today from various junkyard Comanches and Cherokees. In the process I decided that I wanted to have a stock radio back in my truck so I picked the best one and put it in. Out of the 6 I tested all but 2 worked perfectly

I got the dana 44 installed in my truck today. Didn’t go exactly as planned but overall not too bad. Driveshaft was too long which I expected. I wasn’t expecting the yoke to be too long to I had to go get a junkyard one that ended up not working. I finally cut a spare one I found down but need to go get a new ujoint tomorrow for it. Just need to hook up the ebrake cables, bleed the brakes and install the driveshaft before I can road test it. Brakes are all rebuilt thanks to some parts from my spare dana 35 since rock auto sucks sometimes and sent some wrong stuff

I got the axle swap wrapped up on Wednesday and so far it’s doing well. I got the cut up yoke installed and bled the brakes. Had a minor issue with the yoke on the axle having a broken u joint cap retainer tab but I found another yoke which I swapped in. This axle will hold up much better with my v8 so I don’t have to take it as easy anymore

Took my truck to a car show this weekend and it turned way more heads than I was expecting. My dads orange truck still wins the award for guys stopping in traffic to look at it though lol. Lots of people asked about it and I talked to a few other guys with comanches and cherokees. It made the 5 hour round trip with no issues and I drove it 4 more hours back to clemson today. Just need to fix a header leak but that likely won’t happen till this summer
