Harvey and Irma

I can scarcely believe no one has posted this yet. I know we've got some memebers in Texas.

How are things down there? Waters starting to recede?

I've watched a ton of videos and the amount of flooding is no joke. I was also impressed at the civility on display from all creeds and colors. Very little looting as opposed to katrina, dear God what a sh*t show.

I would be there in an instant, but since I live in south FL, I will be occupied with Irma. Cat 4 as of tonight and her path is still unpredictable.

I've been through about half a dozen hurricanes by this point. House has never even come close to flooding. I live in a close knit, secluded community, out in the sticks. I have several boats, and most importantly a 4x4 MJ so i don't have much to worry about. Unless it's a cat 5 I think I'll stick around and enjoy the ride.

I have a daughter down there still, and a brother.

Major arteries are at a near standstill.

I know my way out and I'm trying to convince my daughter to get out now.

This is the largest exodus of people in  US history..............unless you have ever lived there...............

all that water can be sent up here please. the northern rockies and PNW are literally one huge bonfire, and have been burning for over a month straight.

I am just appalled at the lack of coverage and general concern you guys are getting in comparison to the Hurricanes. These are all serious events.

I hope all in harm's way, regardless of where you are, stay safe and well.

The media thrives on sensationalism, and outlets like the Weather Channel and all the clones are no different. They glorify the carnage with tons of destruction coverage but do little to aid  the victims. If I'm in harms way, I want to see stuff like open routes out of the area, local safe havens if any, shelter locations along the route, and contact info. Sometimes I want to kick the TV in.

Property damage can all be repaired; loss of life can not. Please stay safe everyone.

last I heard I-75 was still both ways in north FL but they have opened up the shoulders to traffic flow.  highways near the coasts of FL and GA should be one-way by now.

I've seen governors and mayors on tv announcing phone numbers for those who cannot move themselves out of the path to get free transport.  for the remaining who can't manage to make that call or aren't watching the news or weather channel, I've seen footage from prior storms where the cops go down street by street with loudspeakers.

Yeah Pete, you are correct that the larger cities/towns do a whole lot to alert and transport their citizens out of danger. And you can't expect them to go door-to-door and check every house and apartment. But in the smaller towns and rural districts that doesn't happen and a lot of folks don't get the word.

My daughter is in Clwr.

What I suspected days ago is now happening.

Irma will go into the gulf and strengthen.

I didn't say anything before now, the only person I told was my brother.........he got out.

Tampa Bay gets this one.

There will be a lot of dead in FL, praying my daughter is not one of them. She will not leave her mother.

Stupid is as stupid does.

The liars on TV got this wrong, they are always wrong.

I'm here in Haines City Fl in Polk county and when it hits it will drop down. Clearwater area should be ok as long as she's not right on the coast. People are worried about food water ect and our local chain Publix has 95%of stores and warehouses with generators. So we are more prepared than Texas was. I'm going to drink till it fly's over I'm using vacation time so I can enjoy my self. Then the cleanup will be a b*@$£...

the weatherman is still predicting super high winds for northern GA so I spent my weekend doing cleanup to get the durango in the barn and the liberty in the garage.   basically I fear large branches snapping off the 100 ft trees that surround the house, but it's good to get organized. :D  the MJs are nestled next to the barn.  I put a board over my mini sunroofs and wrapped a tarp around the 88 (the 90 is completely empty so even if water gets in I can mop it out).  got the generator topped off and put my chainsaw and tools in the liberty.  I needed some stuff from lowes anyway so I grabbed a couple plywood sheets and some 2x4s just in case something punctures the roof.  Hopefully the storm won't be all that bad, but I'd rather be prepared. :D  oh, and there's plenty of beer in the fridge.  always be prepared.  :beerchug:

stay safe everyone!  :peep:

I broke out the olde generator from hibernation this afternoon just in case. I expected a fistfight from it since I haven't started it in at least a year and a half, probably more. Even with the stale gas it started on the very first pull. Ran it for about ten minutes w/o a hiccup. I couldn't believe it. Also have plenty of beer in the fridge.  :beerbang:

holy crap that would be sweet!  I wonder how hard it would be to get a car remote starter wired in... :D

mostly I wanted to have something my pop could start and his back doesn't really allow for a stubborn engine.
