Samsung "Smart" Refriderators

Samsung has come out with new a new line of "Smart" refrigerators. They have three cameras inside that can be turned on remotely using an IPhone app. Now Mom can ring up her refrigerator when she's at the grocery store to view all the food inside so she can buy just what she needs.

Jesus. This has got to be one of the stupidest useless apps I've ever seen. Insanity maximus.    :shake:   :nuts:

What if the store's on the way home from work, you didn't check the fridge cause in the morning, and you had unexpected company and didn't have time run home, back to stage store, and back home again? Getting a little too worked up there, pitbull.

I like gadgets. Cameras in the fridge are a bit creepy, IMO, but still a nifty party trick. Now if only they could figure out how they used to make fridges without horrendously loud compressors, maybe I might be interested.

Friend has a Samsung fridge. Don't know if it is the latest fancy one but it has died twice on him and the last time it was going to take a week to get the parts to fix it. Less than a year old.

I recently researched and bought a new fridge. Samsung had lots of features but horrible, awful reliability. I avoided them altogether.

One more example of marketing driven design. Some genius said "Hey, we have the technology to put wifi cameras in our refrigerators and no other appliance manufacturer has done it. Now, how can we convince people to pay a lot more for something ridiculous that they don't really need?" Another genius said "Easy, we appeal to their innate laziness, vanity, and stupidity".

And a marvelous new un-needed appliance is born!

I mean, you have to admit it's pretty cool to just look at your phone and see what groceries you need. Dumb and unnecessary, but still cool.

We have a samsung fridge, it is the biggest piece of junk ever. Very expensive and have had it repaired multiple times. Keeps leaking and its a never ending problem.....meanwhile the cheapo hot point no thrills attached garage fridge that I have is 26 years old....... never had one problem with it and works like a champ. Moral of my rambling: just cause it has a big price tag doesn't mean its better, and the more fancy accessory on something, is more to go wrong on it.

That's why I like my manual windows, mirrors, and door locks.

I operate on a very similar system.  However, for optimal efficiency the staffing positions have been consolidated.  That is to say that the maid, the butler, and myself are all the same person.

 

 

Oh, and as said, Samsung fridges are bad news.  Also, most of the 'smart' or 'fancy' fridges are bad news.  The current trend of french doors is also bad news, lots of sealing problems.  Also, touch activated faucets are stupid.

I like my touch faucets in the bathrooms, however, in the kitchen they're a pain in the @$$. Unlike BC, California has been in a bit of a drought with strict regulations, the touch feature really cuts down on wasted water helping me keep my lush green lawn.

Bathroom ones make more sense.  I wish I could get (for reasonable money) the motion activated ones you see in commercial settings.

This is how I lost my first beer fridge !! I was making a coctail and needs some ice so I went out and started chipping at the ice with my pocket knife like usualy and hit a thin spot and poof ! There went the best beer fridge I ever owned.

I've got a 10-15 year old Whirlpool french door beer/water/gatorade refrigerator in the garage (fridge on one side, freezer on other side) that has never given us any problems. It was demoted from kitchen duty when the household manager decided we needed a stainless steel refrigerator. Also a Whirlpool with french doors on fridge, freezer on bottom, vegetable tray in between. Had it for a couple of years and had one service call on something (l'll have to consult the household manager on what the problem actually was, she handles all that kind of stuff). The only think I don't like about it is the ice maker will periodically jam and automatically switch to crushed ice to clear the jam. That crushed ice melts too quickly in my gin and tonic and waters the drink down. Other than that nuisance, it's a good appliance and the only sealing issues are when I don't push a door or drawer fully closed (operator error).

On the way back from lunch yesterday, a co-worker received a delivery schedule robo-call on the refrigerator he'd just purchased. After the call I asked what brand he'd bought. His reply - "a Samsung because it had the best ratings". Bit my tongue to avoid passing on the Samsung comments in this thread - why burst his bubble? He'll discover his error in due time. No, I didn't feel obligated to warn him because he tends to pi$$ me off when he goes into his justification/superior knowledge mode.

Man the hate on Samsung. I bought my first Samsung fridge back in 2009. Still got it and never had one problem with it. Still runs like a champ. Bought the top of the line chef collection for the wife. But also got one hell of a deal for it. Lowes dropped the fridge and dented the top door. Lowes sent it out to their repair shop and made its way back. Lowe's had a price tag for only 1k. Bought it and then bought the door from Sears for $400. So got a 5k fridge for $1400. Only had that fridge for 6 months but no problems.
