Does this annoy anyone else?

People calling a Jeep inline 6 a V-6 or an Inline V-6 is a huge pet peeve of mine. It annoys me to no end. Am I the only one this bugs or is this something all Jeep guys have a problem with? Also when someone posts a post 86 Cherokee or Manche for sale and they SWEAR it is all original and has a V6. I've had people argue with me multiple times for hours about how I'm wrong and ALL cherokee years came with V-6's.

If its a for sale ad... Its a dead giveaway there is a deal to be had. If they aren't smart enough to investigate what they are selling, they aren't smart enough to figure out what its worth

When I see the v6 in a for sale ad I also think that they really don't know what they are selling and mutter to myself "idiot", but some people just don't wish the educate themselves about their world.

Butchering a nice truck is another one of mine. And yes it actually was a good deal, I would of bought it if I had the money. But also buying a Jeep from someone who doesn't even know the correct engine would kind of scare me. Who knows what they had done to the thing which you will end up paying for...

That is why I always ask for the VIN.  If they say it is all original, VIN will let you know how it came from the factory.  Now if they swapped parts afterwards, that will always throw a curveball into the mix.

Whenever a for sale ad advertises a 4.0L V6, it is safe to assume the seller has no clue what they have and can probably be talked down on price quite a bit.

yes, thats why I said post 87. The most recent time this happened it was an 89 pioneer Cherokee. Which Cherokees had the v6 from 84-86 if I remember correctly. He still is swearing to everyone on the post that its a V6. But he won't post a picture of the engine bay.

My jeep put peeve is when people pronounce "Willys" (as in watch you talking 'bout, Willis) as "Willees." And it is "Kizer" not "Kayzer."

Last XJ I bought, actually next to last XJ I bought...was on CL, broke down, V6 4wd extra tires... $400. By the time I drove the 200 miles to get the V6 jeep, I had him down to $300. I ended getting the XJ for $300 (231 stripped gears), has 5 brand new Blizzak studded snows (still got the nubs on them) and a set of 4 summer tires with really good tires on echo rims...basically bought 2 sets of really nice tires and got a "V6 XJ" thrown in for free.

Seeing non Jeepers selling their stuff, posting with incorrect info, makes me perk up for good deals. The last XJ - 97 4.0 aw4 241, clean title, first gear only...$400. I love non Jeepers...hope they stay uninformed lol. BTW, if the woman doesn't over on the 97, it's gonna be for a 97 up conversion on either the 87 or 88 MJ, aint decided yet...

I've ALWAYS heard it pronounced the way it's spelled. My ex wife had a 41 Willys coupe (Americar) with a barely streetable SBC and I only ever heard it pronounced Will-ease by anyone who ever talked about it. I know that technically it is incorrect since it's a man's name and should be pronounced as his was, but I kind of think of it like Porsche. Everyone calls it a Porsh and think I'm a pretentious bastard when I call it a Porsche even though I'm technically correct.

Ah whoever was selling that Wrangler was so close to being correct. The engine swap year was 07 I believe. Maybe I will learn to appreciate the non Jeepers dumbness behind knowing their engines, once I start buying parts Jeeps :D

I have seen factory training film strips and listened to radio ads. It is for sure Willis. That is also how the founder John Willys pronounced his name. The company created by John North Willys was Willys-Overland. It is funny that most people correctly call it "Willis"-Overland but suddenly add a nonexistent apostrophe to make it the possessive "Willy's" for the jeep.

I acknowledged that Willis is right because it's a guys name. But it's like Porsche. Most people incorrectly pronounce it porsh so that when I pronounce it Porsha they think I'm a pretentious sob. I was just saying I'd never heard anyone anywhere pronounce it Willis, to the point I didn't know that was right until Wikipedia corrected me.

I know what you mean just like when people call a Mopar sure grip a "possi" :fs1: , or a 6 pack set up a " 3 deuce" :thwak:  or pronounce the number 50 as " fiti" or the people say  " baby daddy" or "baby momma" :ack: . Sorry but yes if it wasn't illegal to back hand the $#!& out of people when they annoyed you mine would be down to the bone.

Wikipedia lists the IPA if not for the car company, then for the guy's name. It's very definitely Will-iss, not will-eez.

Having only seen it written, I got "corrected" by a buddy on it, so I looked it up. Turns out I can read and was saying it correctly.
