USAF Daughter Arrives in the UAE

My USAF 1st Lt daughter #2 arrived last night at Al Dhafra airbase near Abu Dhabi, UAE. She will be there for 4-6 months flying AWACS missions in a Boeing E3 Sentry. I was there briefly many years ago when it was nothing but a sheite-pile of sand. It's a lot better now, but still just a larger pile of sand. This is her first deployment after nearly two years of training at Tinker AFB. It will be good to hear from her after a few missions to hear how she's doing.

Trying my best to keep Mom from worrying. And Dad............

Right on ..... I was in the UAE back in 04 or 05.... rode a camel and drank alot of beer.  Oh and if I remember right they have an awesome Gold District.

She told me they are only allowed a ration of two beers daily on base. It's probably some rotgut like BudLite or something too. That's gotta be tough.

Al Dhafra is about 20 miles away from Abu Dhabi, and if she goes to town she has to wear a burka or whatever they are called. Time will tell when she gets set up and the email starts coming.

I've been there a few times and I can honestly say that place is amazing! I had so much fun ice skating, snow boarding and playing at the camel races. It was one of my favorite port calls. It is far from a sand lot now. It is one of the cleanest places I have been to. The mall is crazy. It is set up on 3 or 4 different floors. As you go to a higher floor the price of things goes up as well. It was a really neat experience.

It's been over 30 years since I've been there. And you guys are referring to Abu Dhabi, not Al Dhafra airbase. The airbase is a sandpile operated by the UAE AF. Lovely, eh?

if I save up a week's worth of beer rations, can I have one heck of a saturday?  or is it a limit of 2 consumed on any given day?

I had a few friends who went there as cadets and they said the restrictions are pretty tight. I have a buddy at Tinker right now going through E3 training as well. USAFA wishes her the best!

My USAF daughter arrived home safe and sound from sandpile deployment yesterday. We were all happy, including her dogs. She did great, and has been selected for instructor duty at Tinker AFB OK to train newbie officers how to take out the bad guys. Promotion too. Sorry, just had to brag a little.

I'm sure Mom's really glad to have her back in the USA.  I think maybe Dad is also!  It's obvious (and well deserved) that's he's pretty proud, too!

We're all happy for you, Don.

I guess Oklahoma is better than the Middle East ;)

No doubt. She would "Sooner" be in OK, but will be going back eventually.

So you're an Army brat Jeff? If so, your Daddy should have taught you about the evils of Bud Lite and Budweiser in general. I do like the Budweiser Clydesdales though. They use them to create the Bud-Lime.   :rotf:

Ayup.  My (older, and only) brother was born on Ft. Patterson, NJ.  :USAflag:

USAF daughter #2 left the house yesterday heading back to Tinker AFB and is deploying Sunday to Al Dhafra airbase in the UAE again for another 4-6 month tour to help take out some more bad guys. She made O3 (Captain) recently and as such has more supervisory responsibility than her previous tour in the pile. We talked a lot, gave her the best advice I could, but it's a lot different military world now than when I was in. She's tough, has her head screwed down tight, and will do what has to be done. But me and her Mom will be worried until she gets back again.
