brian Posted March 18, 2011 Share Posted March 18, 2011 Am I the only one or are there others out there who have tried to sell a comanche as a specialty truck for comanche enthusiasts only but been inundated with calls from jerks who've never seen much less owned a comanche? Then they come out to test drive it and wonder why it should be worth a little more than any old small pickup. I was on the trail at Big Dixie Boggers meet a few years ago, I had atleast 6 offers to buy or trade for a huge rock crawler "not a DD" for my MJ in 1 day! And too many comments to count! I even thought about offering to buy it. Just so happens that I ended up with it over 5 years later. I will admit that when I was turning it into my toy I had a "stupid" moment and thought I would eventually trade it for "the other style Jeep", however, My MJ is here to stay. When I first meet wrangler fans, the majority believe themselves to be superior over the MJ. When I confirmed my MJ was a Jeep to one guy he replied...... so is a Liberty but I wouldn't be caught dead on a trail with one of them....... After the trail ride..... instant RESPECT. To date I have out wheeled every wrangler I have gone with. To others I meet the compliments just roll in! Not only is it a JEEP it's better....... it's a COMANCHE! I absolutly love the XJ and MJ, but to say they are far superior to all other Jeeps is nuts. In stock trim there is not a perfect Jeep. They all have something another doesn't. The TJ Rubi has front and rear 44s with lockers, the Liberty could have a Diesel, the MJ has a character all in its own with pay load capacity, etc... Stock for stock, there is no way my MJ could do what my TJ could do on the trail. It would be physically impossible. When it comes to wheeling a built rig, the capability of the Jeep is limited by the driver. A professional crawler could take a mildly modified Jeep much further down a trail than the guy, with more money than brains, who had a shop build his rig and only 'wheeled' it on wet dirt roads. Yes, I have been out wheeled by somebody in a lesser built Jeep. They also had 10+ years of wheeling experience on me. Some trails are just better suited for a rig of a certain wheelbase. If a trail is primarily used by Wranglers, it will be more challenging for them since all of the ruts will be suited for that rig. Try the same line with a longer XJ and it should be much easier. I used the Autotrader advertise to you sell it when I sold my wife's Mercedes SL500. My point was only to side with those who have gotten the "what in the world is that look" when we show up with our MJ's. I totally agree that there are many contributing factors to what happens on a trail. I guess I was just letting my love for my MJ run my mouth before it passed through the community friendly filter, LOL :doh: . I go trail riding with all sort of rigs and enjoy the fellowship. I have only seen about a dozen MJ's in my area. None of those MJ's are lifted so I get a little hyper when I have a chance to show off the MJ. :thumbsup: Again, I apologize to those who thought I was bashing...... I wasn't. I do admit that I am just a tad bit biased when it comes to my MJ P.S. mule13 Posted March 22, 2011 Share Posted March 22, 2011 i have to agree with whoever said unibodys pull better. i've never driven a tj so i really can't comment on it.i also don't have a whole lot of rock climb exp.being from florida what i do have is mud exp. this is a true story; behind my house is a shallow canal leading out to a lake.its to shallow for anything but airboats or canoes.i bought my son a 88 xj lunchbox lockers front and rear running 33's i have a yj running G2 dana 44's front and rear. front had detroit trutrac rear has detroit locker,also running 33's.my son at 17 years old with less than 2 years exp in his xj went about 5 truck lengths farther out into the canal and drove out than i made it and had to be pulled out.i can't imagine a tj doing much better than the yj in this instance honestly.i'm not bashing the tj's at all i wish i had one lol.i'm just saying in my experience a slightly modified xj is a beast out on the trail. dollar for dollar hard to beat. RockMJ Posted September 17, 2011 Share Posted September 17, 2011 Ive owned almost every Jeep from the 1980's on and going from a 2004 Unlimited to the MJ was a bit of a change. But in a good way. I can definitely say that the group of guys I went wheeling with a few times in the LJ have all but stopped talking to me since I got the MJ. The entire club is basically made of up TJ's and YJ's and I believe one XJ so they are pretty biased towards "real Jeeps." I had one guy ask me if I really think its wheelable? I just laughed at the ignorance and simply said its all dependent on the driver, not the Jeep. Ive seen a few high dollar rigs get stuck countless times on simple obstacles because of driver error. A ZJ on 40's and 60/14 combo getting hung up on stuff guys on 35's were walking over. All in all, they are all Jeeps and we all love them the same but we have loyalty to our "oddball" rigs that nobody else understands. Then he started cursing and banging on the key board (on line notary). The he says this damn thing is telling me its a truck its not a truck its a jeep he says. Boy way he shocked when I said go look outside. He had never seen or heard of one ever????? Next best story was just this year I pulled into a Yard Sale and a girl around 6-8 years old says wow thats a nice Comanche you don't see may of them. Zenobian_84 Posted September 17, 2011 Share Posted September 17, 2011 I love it when I drive down the road on my way to work (25ish miles one way) 5 days a week and I pass all kinds of vehicles there. I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys in built up Ram's, F150's, Rubicons, XJ's and generally every other "big manly truck/SUV" crane their necks out over they're dashboards or out there windows to look at my MJ pass by. Makes me laugh pretty hard most of the time. I met an older fella' a few months ago when I brought the truck up to the dealership where my dad works at to wash it, and he commended me for having a Comanche. His words were, "A Comanche? Wow, I haven't seen one of those in over 15 years. I used to drive one myself y'know." Needless to say, a lot of times when I go around where my old man works, I get looks from all the other employees working there, and in fact, I had an offer to buy my truck from another guy who works there!
