I've had MJ's with headliners in all stages of disintegration (except for the first option :( )

Currently my 'Grandpa Jeep' has the stock material in place, ripped on both sides, and held up with a couple dozen pins.

The 'Trail Jeep' has just the fiberboard panel left, spray painted black for now (looks slightly less horrible than it sounds :D )

I'm pretty sure EVERY MJ owner has dealt with this problem at one time, or another.

So, post up guys.

I had my headliner re-upholstered in the original color. Luckily, the headliner molding/shell was still intact when I removed the original nasty faded/stained and safety pined cloth.

Completely gone on my truck. Nice place to stick magnets though. And the paint there is the best looking paint on the entire truck. Which isn't too difficult I suppose.

the one in the 89 sagged. i tried fixing it with 3M adhesive. it stuck for like a month. i took it to a local interior shop and the put a whole new headliner in. i think it was $175.

Took a SawAll and cut a line just above the windshield and just below the rear window totaling removing it. Then did the same to the door posts so it would match.

I re-inforced the board w/fiberglass mat on the top ( roof side ) then brushed off all the loose particles/foam/glue and brushed /rolled a couple coats of matte finish acrylic-latex paint . Did the home made fix 5 years ago , still looks great and its washable .

Mine was gone when I bought the truck. I found a nice intact board at the JY. Wrong color for me but it looked like the PO had replaced it, the fabric is relatively new.

I had previously done the one in my XJ and so I'm going about picking fabric etc. now. I've already insulated the ceiling with the foil/bubble wrap stuff. That's working for now.

:agree: thats what i was thinking...

Do it and let us know how it turns out before we spend the money and time... ;)

I was curious about doing that. But if I do, I'm fabbing an equipment console for my radios and scanner.

nice idea, i'd like to fab something for a cb, to take off the sharp corners. Still not convienced theres enough room for head clearance.
