what did you do to your MJ today?

Bled the Clutch, replaced front turn/marker socket. Topped off fluids. received my 8" slip yoke to trim down. scrubbed a spare valve cover to prep for paint and install.

@ cruiser I did find that the aluminum valve covers from the 90 i pulled had holes drilled in the vent towers, whereas the one from 88 does not. Also the metal baffles were different, the 90 had a center support and the 88 was just floating. I've yet to pull mine from the 89 to see how it differs, but do plan to cut down a set of towers 1".

I barely have any blow by, but figure it maybe stop it completely.

Flogged it. Hard.

Front driveshaft lost a u joint clip up in the double cardan joint, causing it to walk around and knock my transfer case linkage off somewhere in a trail, so all weekend I had to crawl underneath to shift it. Installed spare front driveshaft, then last night two buddies borrowed it to go fetch his Toyota that tore all the bolts out of the steering knuckle after a rollover and returned it with a broken front axle shaft...

Replaced it this morning and played all day again.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got my Valve cover all painted with some VHT .

528636_4102570077228_880806331_n.jpg and cut my towers to a pseudo Cruiser mod. As mine already had a factory 1/2" hole compared to the '88 You can see the difference in height, I only removed 3/4" and maintained the same angle of the cut. You can see in the picture where the 89 had a factory drilled hole in the back vs the '88 sitting next to it for reference. 425793_4102571037252_1047430185_n.jpg

Let us know if cutting the vent towers does anything - good or bad.

Of course it's going to make a huge difference, It already shed half an ounce of dead weight :) My 89 barely has any blow by as it is, I'm doing this simply because my gasket is leaking and figured why not I had two spare covers. I don't know how I could/can quantify if this benefits on the flip if it causes problems I will be the first to bring mention of issues.

Before I install my freshly painted cover I'm going to look to get new vacuum fittings and vent to make better seals.

Accidently cured my erattic steering problem just by installing a set of 91 tow hooks up front. It was probally the 3/16 angle iron I bolted from Tow brackets to front cross member that solidified the front end. That OEM tin foil unibody is kinda scary now that I think about it.
