electrical issues...turn signals
mfpdm replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lets see if I got the chain of events down right here, Your signals worked before you pulled the column apart. Now the dash indicators come on and no signals and the dash indicator on the side you choose goes out. You've swaped turn signal switches and no difference. Your emergency flashers work. Ok, since the emergency flashers use much of the same logic circuit that the signals do, I would say it probably is not the turn signal switch. They also have there own flasher module, so have you tried changing the flasher module for the turn signals? Sounds simple but from what you have described, I've had a bad module give the same symptoms. If that is not it, then you'll need to back trace your steps and see what you knocked loose or did wrong when you pulled the column apart. -
As long as they came off a bucket and not a bench. The bench ones only have one slider on each side.

How did you hold the crank while tighting the bolts down?

j/k However, I agree with fabbing one up and sell that one to a lwb owner.

:agree: Try to find a 96 XJ as that was the last year that will fit the MJ's without any mods. 97+ will fit if you swap the fenders.

If your wanting to keep the seats, you just have to swap out the sliders. The seat frames are the same for all of them. Since these are in your MJ, I'm assuming that you used your MJ floor brackets. You'll just need to get a set of regular xj sliders and bolt them to your floor brackets and then bolt the seats back on.

Comanche of the month, Mar 2010 --- GLUNDBLAD's 1987
mfpdm replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
The old saying about March, "In like a Lion" holds true with this months MJOTM selection. What a perfect example of a stock Beast. You've done an over the top job in restoring her to better than factory looks. I wish the shop that painted yours was the one I would have used. Congrats on being selected. Well deserved   -
If I'm not mistaken, that rod was only offered the first couple of years and then they went away. They are hard to find as most people either lost them or threw them away not knowing what they were for. The two piece folding thing will work for both but, is just a bit sloppy in the hole. :D

Hopefully that's the case. I sent him some parts awhile back and he said his wife would be p'd at him for buying Jeep stuff while in his condition. Was starting to think maybe she took him out. But since he called you, I guess he's ok. Hopefully he's up and walking around now so like you said, they went on vacation.

Sent him a PM some time ago with no answer and was wondering if anyone has heard from him lately. I know he was still recovering from his accident so I hope all is well.

Removal and replacement of my slider back window
mfpdm replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I was still a little sceptical on this until I just recently pulled my first intact gasket. Thanks for the write-up. I will have to say, my finger tips are raw.  -
You could always buy a set of originals off Ebay. :rotf:

If you want a used one, the PnP has a couple. There's an 87 MJ in there right now with the 2.5L.

Personally, I would just have the windshield replaced so that 1) You can do something about the rust in the windshield channel that is there due to it leaking. 2) Have a professional with all the right tools do it and warranty his work from leaks. 3) Have the newer rubber seal put on and get rid of the molding. Just my 2 cents but with all the trouble you've had, I'd hate to see you waste time putting RTV on it just to see it leak someplace else. Cut the Cancer out and move on.

PM sent. Looks good.

headlight wiring problems....does it ever end?

 There's no such thing as a stupid question. :D I start at the top back corner of the upper trim piece. Usually I can just pull with my fingers and work the back off and then carefully work my way around. Sometimes you need a small screw driver to pry it to get started. Order of removal is the top first, then the rear, and then the bottom. Reverse order when putting it on. The bottom is a little tricky as it is held in by the same clips that hold the window rubber in. They can be a PITA so just take your time as you figure them out. I know some have done this mod and did not have to trim so be sure to check fit them prior to pulling off the trim.

Super Job with the paint. I know what paint I'll use next time I need to change interior colors.

:agree: X2. I've looked over every nook and cranny of the internet to find out more on this radio/equalizer and found zip. As far as I know, the pic in this post is the only one in existence. :D

Big improvement over the old ones. Here's a write-up from the DIY section. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11719

When I did a map quest for Hampton Roads VA it shows it in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, do you live on a boat? I don't have any plans to be in that area soon, but I never know when my schedual will change. Thanks, :rotfl2: Not anymore, I retired from the Navy. :rotfl2: I'm in Cheaspeake, 23320. It's just hanging out in the garage so if you don't get one by the next time your this way, you can have it.
