  1. If you make it up to Hampton Roads VA, I'll give you a bench seat. Only reason I held onto it was that it was solid and the springs were good. It will need recovered and will need your floor brackets. Yours for the taking.
  2. No problem. That's why we are all here, to help each other. Did you change the flasher module for one suited for LED's? Not sure but that may make a difference but it doesn't seem likely. There is a slim possibility that a bad contact in the signal switch is back feeding juice to the brake switch but, as said before, that should make the light blink. Not unless the combination of LED's and incondesant bulb doesn't allow it to blink. :dunno: Let us know what you find.
  3. Fantastic example of how these trucks can be an offroad beast and still turn heads on the street. Congrads on a super build.
  4. Nothing like a wiring problem to tickle your brain until you have to go out at night in the cold to figure it out. :D So, you say you ran a wire from the third brake light to the brake switch on the pedal, hooking to the light blue wire, right? And then grounded the other wire to the dash ground. Well reading that, it should have worked as you were bypassing the turn/hazard switch. Since it would have bugged me to death, I went out to the 86 and did just what you did and the third brake light work the way it is suppose to without any problems. Either the small differences in the wiring between 86 and 88 are causing this(Don't think so) or you may have hooked to the wrong wire(Doesn't sound like you did) or you have another problem. The rear lights are like a three way bulb in your house. They're dual filaments that are powered separately depending on the switch setting. When you have the parking lights on, only one filament is lit and that power is coming from the headlight switch(This would be the low setting on a three way bulb). When you hit the brakes, the second filament lights up getting it's power from the brake switch which passes through the turn/hazard switch.(This would be high on a three way bulb). Hitting the brakes without the parking lights on gets power the same way(This would be medium on a three way bulb as the brake filament is bigger than the parking filament). Now when you have the turn signal on and the brake applied, the filament alternates on and off caused by the flash module interupting the power. The turn signal has it's own power source as well. With all that said, your turn/hazard switch maybe causing it(Don't think so since you just claim that the only problem is it comes on with the parking/head lights, not that it's blinking with the turn signals) or, your headlight switch is bad and is trickling power to ground when turned on(this would explain why it comes on dim with the parking lights and when you apply the brakes it goes bright.) If you have a spare headlight switch handy, swap it out. If it doesn't correct the problem, then check the wiring harness and fuse panel for shorts. Did you have any problems prior to hooking up the third brake light?

    snowstorm #3

Yeah, it looks like Hampton Roads will get the ice storm this time. The public schools will probably stay closed most of the week down here already. :shake:

    snow....

We got close to 10" down here in Hampton Roads which it's rare to get anything over a dusting. :rotfl2: Most snow I've ever seen in over 20 years of living here. I shoveled half the driveway just to see what I was missing. Figured I'd let Mr. Sun take care of the rest.
  7. but can you get a 1K right hand drive XJ? diddnt think so.... i kid, i kid.... if youve got the money, buy it, if it makes you happy. Yes, and it's 2 years younger. 1996 Jeep Cherokee-Right side drive - $1350 (Virginia Beach) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2010-01-31, 10:14AM EST Reply to: see below -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Right side drive, 4 wheel drive, great condition, has transmission leak, but drives good. Good inspection sticker. Great remote control stereo with cd player. Call Scott (757)435-0410 Here's the link http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/1579110038.html To the OP, if that is a dealer he will not bend on the price because he knows he'll find a sucker sooner or later. Usually one that doesn't have the cash and he'll offer him financing which will net him more cash. For 3k, you could find a 97+ in execellent condition. If you prefer the earlier body style, than 1k to 2k should be a good price range for 94-96. You just have to be patient.
  8. Wow. It's a good thing the forum is here to save me from making my truck look ghey. I'll see if I can find some ghey person to buy mine and not put them on the truck. I've seen worst things around than a set of nerf bars on the truck. OP if you like the look, it doesn't matter what others think. Just if you wheel it, remember thier purpose and you will be fine. And yes, I like the looks and I'll have them on my build unless things change when it's time to put them on.
  9. Crap, was hoping for a cure. Maybe Paul can come up with one - I'm out of ideas short of cutting the cowl back. Get a 6 inch cowl hood. j/k I've not been able to put a lot of brain power to it yet or anything else to be honest. I did just have a small idea  . I know we've talked about this before and it seems that we were focused on the ideas of moving the wiper or modding, etc.. What about trying to find a different hood hinge that would kick the back of the hood up some when lifted.
  10. Sandblast that shiney stuff off and powdercoat it black and it would be a great bumper.
  11. yeah, originally we were looking at getting a 97+ XJ. Found a great deal for a 97 4dr country edition for $1600. Called the guy within the first 30 minutes of it being posted and he said he didn't mean to post it yet. Called him back several times and he said that he was going to raise the price as he had to replace the ignition system. Told him I'd give 2k for it and he said he had to wait to get it back from his mechanic. Called him back and he said his mechanic told him he was listing it way to low and that he would help him sell it. :fs1: It was a one owner, older gentleman, with 150k on it, all highway and look like new. Booked out a $3200 for private owner sale and I knew it would have been a steal. :(
  12. We figured it would work out good as far as a DD since he hasn't driven cars much and it was very similiar to driving the 86. And I love the fact that parts are easy to come by. Already looking for a few upgrades. :brows: Hey Don, I really can't say too much since he paid for it. He's very money wise. I've bought a lot for both the 88 and 86 but he actually bought both of them along with the 89 XJ donor. Only ones I laid money out for was the two 87's that I chopped up. Once I get the 88 back on the road, I'll probably inherit the Mazda. :D
  13. I like it but the son doesn't care for it. I guess it's the generation gap at play here. I told him he had to leave it because it would leave holes that would leak if we took it off. That's my neighbors addiction like Jeep is mine. It has been through various changes in the last 10 years from supercharged, twin turbo, single turbo, to now a stroked 302(I think) with a big @ss turbo. He's building it for the strip.
  14. :agree: Yep, it's just the shadows coming from the sun setting behind me and the angle of the pic. They also look like low profiles or that they are too small, but actually, they are about a inch or a half inch larger than the stock tires that came on these. Those rims are 17 in. ford something rims which make the tires look small. :dunno:
  15. Well the son had to get a new DD to replace the 86 MJ. It lasted good considering we bought it for parts and it ended up a DD. It's up for sale in the classifieds as I can't afford to have it around doing nothing. After cutting up the last two parts trucks, I'd really like to see this one go whole and put back into service. Here's the official handoff pic after getting a new inspection and plates for the new DD. It's a 1999 Mazda B2500(Ford Ranger Clone) in pretty good condition. 2wd 4cyl with 5spd. Son likes the new ride but was also very happy with the 86. The thing he likes most about the Mazda is that I'll let him park it in the driveway. 86 always wanted to leave it's mark where ever it parked. :D
  16. Very cool. Not a bad price for 2 Stetson hats. Especially for one that was made for Jeep in limited numbers. It would be priceless to an avid Jeep collector. The JBS one is in the $125-200 price range elsewhere on the internet.(if I looked it up right) No I don't wear cowboy hats, just my opinion on it.
  17. The one in the OPs pic almost looks like the old YJ mirrors that came on full steel doors. I've always wondered if they would work on an MJ. :dunno:
  18. :rotfl2: I'm going to ask my neighbor first. He's an older gentleman.
  19. Sorry to go off topic but OMG what happen here. I can't even fathom what the owners felt like after this. Looks like Godzilla walked through the lot.
  20. :rotf: Having someone wrong (phone) number you is pretty bad, but I've never heard of people giving out fake VIN's :rotfl2: Nah, that wasn't the case. I thought maybe I would have time for someone to run one for me but ended up paying to get it. When I said not a Jeep, was just stating that I was looking at a different make. Long story short, I've replaced the sick 2.5 in the 86 with a 1999 2.5. And yes the camper top is the first thing to go.
  21. Not a Jeep. :(
  22. Never mind.
  23. If there is someone here with a Carfax account that wouldn't mind running a VIN for me, please shoot me a PM. Thanks.
  24. Yep, the link above helped with mine. Here's a pic from my 86 with the 97+ adapted. Here's the pin out of that. It shows which wires were connected together.(colors may differ from later years)
  25. Here's a couple of links out of the DIY section that should answer most of your questions. Making XJ buckets work in a MJ Bucket seat restoration and repair.
