  1. Did anyone else notice they apparently sprayed the entire engine compartment with some sort of flat black paint or coating? Even covered the emissions stickers, hose clamps, everything under the hood is coated except the radiator cap and a few electrical plugs. Seemed odd to me that you would do that to a truck with that low of mileage. Something seems fishy to me. And that sure looks like rust bubbles forming on the upper part of the tailgate. I also spy a beige seatbelt hanger on the passenger side, Indicates to me someone has monkeyed with the seatbelt. I am not arguing that its in really nice shape but it also looks like "typical carlot tricks" have been used here to make it look better than it is.
  2. I too hate how you gotta get all fancyed up to go to the walmart. Dollar tree is much better about their dress code. Lol
  3. Need some more info. When was the last tune up? Plugs wires cap rotor fuel filter air filter should all be checked and or replaced before you chaulk it up to a bad sensor. How old is the o2 sensor? How's the compression? There are a lot of things that can cause a misfire (rough idle). The more we know the closer we will get to the problem.
  4. Definately a sign the starter is going. Fwiw mine has been doing the same thing for a couple of months. I have just been too lazy to change it. I just carry a lug wrench under my seat.
  5. Thats what I planned on doing. Gotta get it fixed or it will just come back again. Oh and BTW it is disgusting what comes out of 20+ yr old carpet when you pressure wash it.
  6. Ok got an update. New floor is in and finished along with the TJ shift boot. The boot fit perfectly. We officially have a fix. So here is what I started with. Treated the rust with some rust inhibitor paint. Then I formed up a new floor out of 16ga. sheet. Doesn't look factory but my feet won't fall through any time soon. Here it is after a couple of coats of primer. I bought a used TJ boot off ebay cheap after the suggestion was made on here in another thread that they worked. so I pulled my old shift boot and installed the TJ boot. Exact fit. I was very pleased we found a solution to the problem. Then I reinstalled all of the now dry pad and carpet. Although in hindsight that was a mistake because I haven't found the leak that caused it to get wet yet. So sometime in the near future it will all come back out to allow me to diagnose the leak and repair it.
  7. Ok I will give that a shot and see if it works.
  8. I gotta find a solution to the lower shifter boot. Mine is shredded and currently taped up with electrical tape to keep it from falling down on the trans. Anyone got any ideas on a replacement? Even if it is a little different shape where it mounts to the tunnel I can live with that. I would love an exact replacement but I belive we determined awhile ago none were available. So any ideas?
  9. Well I got alot done last night. I managed to get my carpet pulled up and started cleaning floors. Need to do some repairs. I am hoping to weld in new floors today. Gotta find my leaks first. My carpet pad was soaked and smelled like dirty feet. It is now hanging in the garage drying. Does anyone know how to dry the white heat sheild thingies in the plastic bags? I remember reading somewhere they were fiberglass but didn't know for sure. Once I get the leaks fixed and the floor repaired it will get a coat of POR and then a layer of bedliner for added protection. Followed by my pad and clean carpet. Taking the carpet to the carwash this afternoon. Drivers side floor Another drivers side Passenger side Here is my temp. floor pan to keep my foot goin thru the floor. Which brings me to my next project. I gotta find a solution to the lower shifter boot. Mine is shredded and currently taped up with electrical tape to keep it from falling down on the trans. Anyone got any ideas on a replacement?
  10. Sure looks like that one has been damaged. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
  11. Another reason to use pre-mixed coolant :D Yea if you wanna pay twice as much for the same amount of product.
  12. Couldn't stand the look of a magnet mount antenna on my mj. So tonight I made a mount and installed the firestick. Looks much better.
  13. Installed cb last night with a magnet mount antenna. Don't worry the mag mount is temp. gotta build the headache rack before I can put the firesticks on.
  14. Removed my rubber side molding last night and the glue associated with it. P.s. Its for sale if anyone wants it. Cheap.
  15. I don't know if its a split bench or not but someone on here used a bench from a late model dakota I belive. Looked good and had the fold down center.
  16. Finished my headlight relays. Came up one spade connector short. Spent 2 hrs diggin through the electrical drawer and finally found some more. Cleaned iac motor. And fixed the valve cover leak.
  17. I would be 99% positive its an O2 sensor issue. Sounds to me like it is running fine when its in open loop but when it warms up and goes to closed loop you have issuse. (I might be incorrect as to when its open loop and when its closed haven't dealt with OBDI in a while)
  18. :agree: I belong to several forums. One of which I consider my "home" forum. We have different sub forums for all models and there are times it becomes very confusing. I belive comanche club should stay comanche club. I have a CJ and if I need CJ specific help I go to a CJ specific forum. Same holds true with my MJ. Plus this is a great collection of people with the same insane overinterest in MJ's as me.
  19. Are yours factory height and they gave you 3" or were they made 3" lift springs?
  20. Sweet. I think I need to contact this "Tom" character and see what we can work out on a set of 3.5" MT lift springs for my truck. :clapping: So much for paying bills with my tax check..... Edit: Just checked the website and he only lists the 4+1 leaf. Do I need to call him and special request the 3+2?
  21. Hard to say. And I think what we may have learned here was this: many people assumed that if an 87+ MJ had a D44 it automatically had the MT pkg. Not true. Now, if you have the factory tow pkg, yes, you automatically had the D44. My truck is an example of that, and I also have the window sticker supporting that info. So, what I think is logical, the same "rules" applied in '86, the only difference being the HD axle was the AMC20 and not the D44, which replaced the 20 as the MJ's HD axle starting in '87. So, you still may hold the answer to the $64,000 question: does that truck have a factory tow pkg? Factory D44 on my 89 (Per Build Sheet), No MT Package, No Tow Package Ok so that answers that question. Is the easiest way to simply count the leaves? Is it definatly a MT truck if it has 5 rear leaves? Now THAT is a definite, but even still with some variations. Yes, MT packs were always 5 leaves. I forget which years were which, but they had one set that had 3 long leaves and 2 short overload leaves, and the other one was 4 progessively lengthed leaves with the 1 overload leaf. Hornbrod can even supply you with the part #s  *Edit, well, once again, nothing is definite, especially with a Jeep. The pack with the 2 overload springs someone could have added an aftermarket overload spring, although they don't usually look the same as the bottom factory spring, so if you lay your eyes on a set of these, I'd say it is "highly likely" they are factory MTs. On the other pack though, there's always the chance one could be an AAL. Best way to tell if these are factory is probably to check 2 things: the 4 main leaves should be evenly spaced, and the tips should be tapered whereas an AAL is usually just squared off on the end IIRC. :ack: Ok so I need to look for 5 leaf packs. Most commonly 3 longs and 2 shorts. But they could be progressively shorter leaves. Correct?

  23. So from what I am hearing "almost" all MJ's with D44 rears had metric tonne springs?
