Speedometer Fluctuations

I would have to agree. I had the same issue before I replaced my cable. Now smooth as a babys bottom. -
how many miles on your truck's factory engine?
watchamakalit replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
167,000 running like a champ. I have entertained the idea of swapping motors but this one isnt terrible. Just thought about a new one with less blow by and consequently fewer oil leaks. -
10-15yrs ago when I worked retail in town there were about 8-10 running around our little town. Now I fell fortunate to see an xj on the street. Its been a while since I have seen another MJ on the road. I have seen a few through craigslist and marketplace ads but only a very small handful.

Jorge Sprave (SP?) of the "the slingshot channel" on you tube. He makes some amazing projectile slinging devices and is quite entertaining to watch.

I have buckets in my MJ right now but still have my bench. I prefer the bench to the buckets as far as interior space and usability go. However my bench has broke down bad enough that I can't sit in it for more than about 2mins without my back hurting. I intend to get it redone and put it back in at some point. I do think the buckets are more comfortable than the bench and kinda like the sporty feel it gives the truck, but the bench is still my favorite. I didnt buy my MJ wanting a sports car, it is a pickup truck. lol

Ok the saga continues. I picked up another shaft for a 97 zj. The shaft itself looks to be correct diameter, but the section from just outboard of the seal to the inboard end of the shaft are smaller diameter. Have done any exact measuring on it yet, but it looks to be the same diameter as my current shaft. I have double and triple checked the seal size and number. Does anyone have a part number for a known good CV shaft that will work with my front end? I'm pulling my hair out on this one. The axle is out of a 90 or 91 mj. Been so long since I pulled it I can't remember for sure. I will get some measurements and pics when I get to the shop. I am a residential framer. I am currently working with an Amish friend of mine. We will continue to work until we cannot anymore. Due to lack of materials or some sort of quarantine. That said being an independent contractor, and hearing the the feds are gonna send everyone a check. Coupled with the thought that we might get quarantine or told to shelter in place. I think this is as close as I'm ever gonna get to a PAID vacation. lol That said its the same old projects for me for now. Hoping the 2 week vacation will help me get the cj running again.......

I did not hook up the reverse lights yet. But it won't take much just have to jumper the correct pins to the old connector and itll work. As for the overall swap, so far it hasnt been difficult just time consuming and sourcing parts was a bit tricky but so far so good.

Bingo. Man you saved the day again. I'm assuming I have to fool it into thinking the nss is allowing it to start? My build: https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=https://comancheclub.com/topic/8033-finally-found-onenow-it-has-a-new-floor/&share_tid=8033&share_fid=53169&share_type=t

I just swapped in the auto harness I aquired from a fellow member. I believe everything is plugged in except this connector and the trans connections obviously. Essentially I have a manual truck with an auto harness. Problem is I have a no crank issue. Turn key everything comes on and operates normally but it won't crank when I turn key. It doesnt click or anything. Its like the starter is unhooked. Any ideas? 31x10.5 will fit in the stock location but you will have to remove the small "splash guard" piece of metal right in front of the rear bumper. If I remember correctly it is juast a few spot welds to drill or grind. I stopped by an oreileys today. The WJ shaft is indeed a smaller diameter. Really thinking I got shipped a misboxed shaft. The part numbers on the boxes matched my order. Does anyone know offhand an of measurement of a 98 am drivers side shaft where the seal rides? I believe mine measure 1.128". But thats from memory of what I measured last night and I'm not home to confirm. I have a disconnect housing and am installing one piece shafts. I am refering to the seal on the drivers side (short shaft) just outboard of the carrier. I ordered new ahafts from rock auto for a 98zj. I'm wondering if I have the wrong drivers side shaft. My build: https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=https://comancheclub.com/topic/8033-finally-found-onenow-it-has-a-new-floor/&share_tid=8033&share_fid=53169&share_type=t -
I swapped my d30 tho CV shafts recently. However I developed a leak on the drivers side. Stopped at the parts store and picked up a newinner seal and a jug of gear oil inn my way home tonight. Tore the front all apart only to find my inner seal in great shape. After much head scratching and investigating I found the inner diameter of my seal is much larger than the outer diameter of the CV shaft. So back tho the parts storeto look forthe correct seal. My front axle it's from a 90mj. The seal I originally purchased was correct for it factory. The seal listed for a zj has the correct id that I need but was too small on the od. So is there a seal with zj id to fit the CV shaft that will fit my mj housing? Grill and trim painted and installed. And bumper mocked up to test fit. The PO hacked the brackets and welded on the crappy tube bumper. So I am having to custom make brackets to get it mounted.
