Freshening up an AW4

So the aw4 in my 01 xj has almost completely lost reverse, only reverse, and I've got another transmission to swap in. I've been told to change filter and fluid and see if that fixes my issue, I'm guessing it won't but I'll try it first. But if I have to swap in this aw4 I have, what all would you guys suggest I do to it to freshen it up and make sure it's good to go? Its been sitting outside for a while, torque converter still on it, I won't be using it, I'll use mine. Is there any easy or cheap upgrades to these things while I have it out? I've never had this aw4 out of this jeep but have had others and ax15s out before so removal and install I'm knowledgeable on. Anything to do to the tcase while its out? Already got a hack n tap sye on it. So I guess while everybody is reading this, what could cause it to only slip in reverse? Will idle in reverse but slips under throttle. I can power brake it in drive or 1st and it works flawlessly. Fluid doesnt smell burnt but is slightly discolored. It is filled correctly, first thing I checked. Thanks guys. Me and my dad used to be big into model trains when I was younger. Weve got some O, HO and N scale setups. I used to love it! I'll probably introduce my son to them when hes a little older. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Going to the Junkyard Today, have some questions
krustyballer16 replied to CODriver's topic in The Pub
General rule I follow and I know lots of other people do too: Know how to take everything apart/off the right way, then expect to come up with a creative way to take everything apart. Cuz theres always rust, crossthreaded or snapped off bolt, can't reach something with how the vehicle is sitting. Expect the unexpected. Get a feel for prices before you go to pull parts. If they seem cheap to you, pull anything comanche specific. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk -
I spent $1300 on gauges in my Cummins swap in the old style dash so this $450 set up doesn't seem too bad. Do you need a new fuel sending unit to run that gauge or will stock sender work with that fuel gauge somehow? Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

I can't remember who it is, I've facebook messaged them before, but someone has a convertible MJ... Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

I've seen how other people have done them and it might be an easy modification but I'd like to have the seats in front of me to mess with. If someone got me seats, I could look into it. I just recently got a set of newer seats from pete to look into those brackets Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Ya, I'd build a set of sliders. I've been behind and havent been able to get a few sets built up for stock like I had planned. But I'd build a set... I'm at least 4 weeks out on them as of now. Message me. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk- 197 replies

Aw4 slipping in reverse
krustyballer16 replied to Fryedaddy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did this issue ever get fixed? I still havent messed with mine and havent come across a fix. Everywhere I've read says I shouldnt have 1st gear either but I do. I can put it down in 1st and power brake it and do burnouts. But can't power brake in reverse. Or give any throttle in reverse without it slipping...fluid looks a little old but not really burnt... Hmm, didnt know that. Guess I'll find out when I start on the build. I've got a 99 6.0L/2wd 4l80e to put in an eliminator that I'm gonna lower a little bit. Make it into sort of a drag truck Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk -

You have to drill additional holes to use the Novak mounts? I have a set that I plan to use. What is your setup snd plan for this truck? Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
