http://comancheclub.com/topic/36382-cruisers-renix-tips/ Tip 17: HO engine into Renix. You'd keep your stock wiring and engine controls but with a newer block. I imagine smog people would be none the wiser unless they decided to for whatever reason check the numbers on the block. All credit to cruiser54.

Don't have anything to contribute to your question but I think a "pic requests" section would be a great idea.

Seat Brackets: How should I proceed?
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't think about nutserts, thanks. The biggest challenge here is that I don't have much depth at all to work with. From the top of the upper strap(where the old stud is threaded into) to the bottom of the rail is just a little bit more than 3/8". The shortest nutsert I can find on the interwebs is 3/8'' long, and the widest thread diameter I can find in that length is #10-24 (a stud diameter of about 1/5''), which is about 2/3 the diameter of the existing stud. Would using a smaller stud be cause for safety concerns? If for whatever reason what I have isn't fixable that's my next option, although I would much rather fix what I have. -
Recently I've gotten my hands on a set of MJ bucket seats and brackets. However, the front studs where the seats attach to the sliding rails have been cut off, and I'm not sure how to go about fixing this without disassembling the whole bracket. Any idea on how I should fix this? The seat frame mounts to the sliding rails with 4 bolts. The front two are like this on both brackets. The rear two mounting points have holes for bolts and plenty of room.

Are all year cabs the same?
Minuit replied to moparcyco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can't just swap cabs. The MJ is unibody which means the cab, frame, and floor pan are all one unit. Your options are either to swap all the good '91 parts to the '86 shell (not easy), fix the '91, or find a truck in the condition that you want. You could always just swap a good 2.5 into the '86 if it has a pristine body but dying engine. -

Minuit replied to moparcyco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 86 will have a different firewall and radiator support. There may be more but that's all that comes to mind right now. Are you wanting to just drive the 86 as it is or are you wanting to swap your 91 parts over to it? With that said, I think 87-92 shells are the same. -
Saw this truck in person earlier today. Yeah, the color scheme is even wackier in person. Owner's a pretty nice guy too and I left with half a garage worth of parts

This project is awesome. Great to see one of so few manual ZJs get treated right.

Brake booster, will a '94 Cherokee one work?
Minuit replied to cbreiter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, 94 would essentially be the same as what he has now. I think big66440 was referring to the 95/96 swap. -
1986 Jeep Comanche - $800 (Fairfield, NY) 4x4

Are those power seats out of an XJ Limited I spy? If so, then my idea wasn't so original after all... -
:agree: Not the greatest engine, but a 2.8 in good condition will get you by.

Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Since this is just one of those nights when sleep eludes me, I figured I'd make a little update. Ready? I've done nothing. There you go. Mileage is 155,3xx. Nothing of interest to report. Everything that worked last month still works, and everything broke last month is still broke. I'm going to the JY Wednesday (or is it tomorrow? :fs1: ) with plans to pick up some more parts to play Truck Legos™ with. More details later. -
The V6 isn't that hot for reliability either. A 4.0 will kick its arse in every way. That said, I've come across an 86 in the junkyard with 237,000 miles with the V6. Ultimately, it's a $400 truck and the condition of the frame and engine will determine whether or not it becomes a $4000 truck (and not in a good way).

My 91 is the same as above.

That level of floor pan rust isn't entirely uncommon on our trucks. 86 isn't the greatest year and the 2.8 V6 isn't the greatest en kind of sucks. It does have the greatest interior color of all though, so there's that. If you want an MJ, I'd say get one in better shape that you can already drive. That one will probably be a pain in the @$$. That said, most MJs are at least worth $400 in parts. Interior, tail lights, tailgate, etc.

How can I tell what gears I have?
Minuit replied to teamsmith's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Since your sig says your truck is a 4.0, 5 speed, you can bet on it having 3.07 gears. There may still be a tag on the diff that confirms this. -
I went with a friend of mine to Dickson last year to help him look at a truck. We passed something like 6 different MJs within about 30 miles of driving. Some towns just got more of them, I guess. :dunno:

My first MJ, second Jeep

Planning a complete 97+ swap? :brows: That's a great looking XJ. -
Not usually a fan of bagged cars but

Brake booster, will a '94 Cherokee one work?
Minuit replied to cbreiter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Up until '95 the boosters were single diaphragm, so I would expect little to no improvement. -
Looks more like a japanese truck in some other videos I've seen of the game. The taillights look Jeep though
