Ever since I got mine three years ago, it's been nothing but a source of frustration. It's slow, unreliable, not fun to drive, and absolutely hideous, not to mention breaking down twenty-three times in 12,000 miles. I don't understand how you people manage to live with these things. I was thinking of selling my Commanche, but I think junking it's probably the way to go.

If this wasn't in Colorado I'd own this today. -
That's why the first thing we always ask in this case is: did you turn the headlight switch? :D Here's a bad thing about the '80s: My '91 sales brochure lists the Grand Wagoneer as having a "powerful" 144 hp 5.9L V8.

Are these clutch-type diffs that eventually need to be rebuilt or some other type?

No Radio, Clock or Dome Light Power
Minuit replied to JeepsOLot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I distinctly recall a blown dome light fuse in my '91 also killing power to the radio. No idea if it's meant to be that way or bubba'd stereo wiring causing it, though. Not sure how much that helps but there might very well be a common connection that's causing all of your trouble. Grounds are always suspect, so checking the dash ground ain't a bad idea at all. -
Precision/Moog/Federal- the saga continued.

Box-O-bolts........idiots.......lol
Minuit replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've run into a couple of bolts like this. Stupid, stupid, stupid. -
If you need a truck for a short period of time, try a home improvement store. At least where I live places like Lowe's rent out trucks.

I would just start by being a reasonable human being and talking to their parents. I'd imagine if you don't antagonize anyone and be chill about it they would be at least reasonable about it. Security camera is a good idea though in case something DOES happen.

If you go see it again Mike, grab the glove box door if it's in good shape. Going for the Grey 'N' Black look? Why not chrome? :D

Don't junk it. You can find a "low mileage" (although most engines would be low mileage by your standards) engine to drop in 'er for cheaper than you think if you look around. Give it some refreshing and it'll run like new again.

There's a blue and silver Laredo that drives by most days before my first class. Makes me really, really want my truck back. These were always my favorite XJs. What do you plan on replacing those god awful 90s catalog wheels with?

Door Question!!!! Please Help!!!
Minuit replied to MGriff013's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any door panels from an '84-96 4 door Cherokee will fit. Pick the ones you like the looks of most. The only modification you may need to do is cut holes for your manual window cranks. If the donor vehicle has the Jensen audio system the bezels will not clear the stock window cranks properly. -
Nice. Those old Marchal fog lights are on my junkyard "keep an eye out" list for sure.
-
That woodgrain dash bezel looks really nice against the maroon dash
-
I don't think MJs are wired for the Jensen Audio specific dash tweeters, but due to some PO screwery I know that 3-1/2 inch speakers will fit with some minor encouragement. The grill is plastic welded to the panel at least on mine, so you'll have to take the whole thing off to get to the speakers.

Engine Torsion dampening shock!
Minuit replied to BlackBeast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Never knew such a thing even existed. Learn something every day. -
:agree: Smooth ride (for an AT), very little if any noise, good traction, and good looks with whites out.

Stranded, need help, my MJ is a glutton
Minuit replied to rustybottoms88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The factory CPS finally died at ~146k on my truck. A cheap replacement stranded me a month later. Always buy quality sensors. -
The MJ had Good-For-A-Year Wranglers (not sure what model, it's been a while) on it before I got the Coopers that are on it now. On wet pavement, you'd think the truck had 400hp right off idle. Awful tires - to be fair they were a few years old but having them on the MJ was enough to make me never want to put Goodyear tires on any of my stuff ever again. Don't think I'm insulting people that have them on their trucks - just my opinion and experience.

Woops. Was thinking of registration papers
