I don't like sticks in a 4x4. Just a personal preference really. If you plan on keeping a D35 for any amount of time the auto is the way to go. If you want a stick, upgrade the rear end before you even test drive it, lol. If you are going to use a OBD-II ecm you will need to do a 97+ conversion as well. Good luck with your school. When you get ready to do the conversion I should be back in north Georgia.

Are you good with wiring? I mean really good? There is a lot of it! I will give you a few secrets but not all of them. I plan on doing the Magnum swaps in Jeeps as a side business when I retire. But, I will be back in Acworth GA in a couple years and will gladly do the swap for you for a fee. I am currently elbow deep in the swap. It is not one to be taken lightly. It is a LOT of work. Mine should be done (running) in a couple months. I get about 12 hours a week to work on it. You will need, a HO era (91-94) XJ engine and interior harness a HO XJ gauge cluster a 93 on XJ headlight switch a 93-95 V8 ZJ donor a HO era XJ HVAC box new drive shafts (custom made) a pre 96 5.9 ECM any year Magnum 5.9 a 46RH trans 95 or newer 231 transfer case and finally a friend who can weld and fab Like I said, it is a lot of work and it is a little pricey to get all the parts stock piled. You would be a few dollars better off using a 5.2 out of a ZJ donor. WTF was I thinking doing this!

Really? I know their stuff was junk about 6 years ago. They scrapped the Libby kit years ago as well. I have not heard a single complaint with RK stuff since Jeremy and the boys redesigned everything some years ago. Do you have first hand knowledge of these failures or just going off what you have read? I just got done installing a RK XJ LA Triple Threat upgrade this weekend. You will not find beefier arms, period.

wanted 97+ 2door or 4 door pwr window/lock/mirror harness WA
shelbyluvv replied to cody4359's topic in Wanted
It is the same wiring. All you need is the switch. I thought it was different too. I have a harness here out of a 2 door if you want to buy it. I paid $40 for it and that is what I would let it go for. -
Peugeot 2WD to AX15/231 Conversion
shelbyluvv replied to cracker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
He got it from Crazyjim, Jim, bought it from Grimmjeeper. -
R/T Specialties has them for $16 a pair. Do a quick google search and you will find them.
-
Rob, do you have the engine harness too? I think I need every piece of wiring from a XJ to get the 5.2 running and driving.
-
The MJ D44 is a semi float axle. This means no C-clips. To do the seals you have one of two options. 1) press the bearings off and hope you do not hurt them. Then press them back on. 2) cut the bearings off, replace seal, and press on new bearings. Personally, I would get new bearings. If the seals are leaking it is probably time for new bearings as well.

Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Not much to report but I figured I would keep you updated on the build. I have the interior stripped out of Betty, all of it. I also tore all the wiring out. I left the rear section to the pump and lights. I will be putting a HO era dash and wiring inside. I am going to try and retain a factory look inside with a MPI V8 under the hood. I will be pulling the under hood harness out of the ZJ to start identifying which wires I need and don't. There is a lot of excess crap in that harness that will not make the cut, literally! I will not be using ABS, outside temp, and all the other stuff that a base truck should not have. Once all the wires are figured out I will be adapting it to a HO era XJ under hood harness. It is going to be a royal PIA to get it running but it will be worth it in the long run. -
Factory hitch and black interior! You got yourself a keeper there. Gorgeous truck!
-
I'll keep you in mind Rob. I don't know if the 5 speed harness will work with the ZJ auto. How much would you want for it?
-
I need a dash harness out of a HO era MJ. I need all the wiring to be uncut if at all possible. Please keep an eye out for one getting parted or in your local JYs for me. I will pay for your time to pull one and shipping to me. This is needed to complete the Magnum swap in the MJ.

Trouble passing smog test!
shelbyluvv replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check the EGR valve too. If it is sticking it will make it run like crap. -
You do know that front 30 is a low pinion right?
-
There is a clearish box under the dash right by the steering column. That is the emissions timer. Un-plug the box and throw it away. The light will go off and never come back on. The timer is not needed and will not hurt anything by removing it.
-
Jim, (Or anyone for that matter) if you see this happening please report the post. The rest of the Mods will be sure to put a stop to it as soon as we see it.
-
I paid $400 for my 94 ZJ and it runs.

what is the better header for a 2.5
shelbyluvv replied to cz777's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 2.5 does not respond well to mods. It is a tiny 4 popper and there is not much you can do to get a performance boost. Do not waste your money on hopping up a 2.5 in a MJ. -
"97 Swap Fuel Pump Question
shelbyluvv replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It will not effect a thing if you are running the 97+ fuel module. The slosh tray is built into the module. I think the MJ and XJ tanks are just about the same height. If anything you may need to tweak the sender arm a little to get it to read correctly at empty. It might hang on full a little long than it should but it should be ok. -
Look in the Projects Forum for "tough truck", they are bed lining the poor thing.

Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
You are mistaken. My truck had the rare factory black interior that some fool painted and butchered. -
Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I feel you there Rob. It still makes me sick to look at it. I used to take such good care of that truck too. Live and learn I guess. I have been messing around with the ZJ gauge dash plastics too. I can't get the head light switch to fit the way I want it too. I am thinking about cutting the ZJ plastics down to fit over the stock MJ dash. I am getting close to having a rough product. Hopefully by this weekend I will have a few pics of what I am working with. -
A 3:55 gear ratio is awesome with a 5 speed and 31s. It is really easy and cheap to find a XJ D35 with 3:55s and swap it out as well.
