Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
The motor mount drop brackets worked perfectly. The hood clears everything very nicely now. I had to chop out the stock cross member. These things are super weak with that thing missing. I put this one in and gained some more room for a larger radiator. The next move is the trans mount and chopping a hole in the floor for the transfer to fit. EDIT: This should fill the hole left up front fairly nicely! $88 off Ebay. Two core aluminum radiator. It is the perfect size at 22 w x 19 h. -

I wonder this on a daily basis... -
I built some brackets to lower the engine an inch on the passenger side and 1 1/2" on the drivers side. The engine was sitting off center about a half inch and the air cleaner was hitting the hood. Let's all hope that it is enough for the air cleaner to clear the hood. The hood was just barely touching the very front edge of the air horn.

When my wife and I were having problems we did something totally different that trying to sit and talk it out. We went camping and got drunk as piss. We then promised each other we would not yell or get mad at anything that was said to each other that night. We then talked out what our problems were. Remember "Drunk minds, speak sober thoughts." It worked very well for us. Our chosen drink was Red Bull and Vodka that night. Good luck brother. It is not a fun road to be on.

Just because the guy has a shop does not mean he knows what he is talking about. No offense against Floridians but most really don't know jack about the stress put on a 4WD rig. Playing in water and mud is one thing. Driving on the street daily is another thing all together. If you want to see some scary stuff that goes on in FL, look up Chuck's Trucks and Trucks Gone Wild. Those are some prime examples of hack job trucks. If you honestly need your truck that bad and can't wait to get spacers do one of the options until they come in. 1. swap the stock axle back in 2. borrow a set of smaller tires

fuel tank cleaning
shelbyluvv replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used two 2 liter bottles of Coke and a few 6" sections of chain. You will need a buddy to help shake the tank. Drain the tank then used some Purple Power and the chain to clean the rest of the gunk out. The Coke will soften the rust and the PP will clean the rest. -

What are pros/cons of this axle?
shelbyluvv replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Other than it missing about $200 of brake hardware, nothing. -
I want to trade this front end, for this one I am missing both of the flares. There are a couple minor cracks in it. They are not the whole way through. It looks like it was leaned on and the glass flexed. It is already modified to fit an 86 and will bolt on any other year. I will not sale it. I just want to trade for a 84-89 stocker like the one above. I would prefer a black one but chrome can be sanded and sprayed. I am located in 29 Palms, CA. 92277. Anyone local want to trade?

MOOG I get mine at Auto Zone or NAPA.

I could trade you a 97 front end for the one off the farmer...

Thanks Chief, I am going to chop the front cross member out and mount the rad on the front side of the core support. I want to keep the fan and shroud if at all possible. I thought about a cowl hood. That would take away from my stock appearing look I am going for. The 6" lift and 33s are a little much but they work well on a LWB truck. -

Thanks, You must not know how anal I am with my builds. The engine bay will be spotless before it hits the raod. This was just a test fit. The engine needs to drop about 2" in front to make me happy. The fan is sitting even with the rad support and the intake is just above the fender line. I am going to take a hard look at things this week and see what needs to be done to get it to sit down in the bay lower than it is. -
Cherokee Part Out Question
shelbyluvv replied to ckahl2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It took me a full day to gut my donor. You may want to cut the firewall and seat brackets out of the donor too. -
Read up on "Sudden Optima Death Syndrome" and see what you think. I quit running them years ago because of their problems.

it can be done, it is not a extremly hard job but it is time consuming. Read through the Projects forum and the Onyx build in my sig. There are a few in process right now.

I pulled the 5.2,46RH,NP249 combo out today. That was fun! It is sitting in the garage waiting to be dropped in the MJ. I will hopefully have it sitting in the engine bay in a couple weeks! I need to get the V8 fitted before I can finish the wiring. I think I am going to put the ZJ PCM inside under the dash where the stock PCM was. With wanting to put the the PCM inside I am not sure where the haness needs to be attached and how much needs to be left out to reach the front of the engine. I think the floor needs to be hacked for the transfer to fit. I will not be using a 249. I will either slide a 242 in there or a 231.
