  1. Where abouts in ca do ya live ?
  2. In my experience Super Swamper is one of the few tire manufacturers who's tires actually measure out to the advertised height . I ran some 33-12.5-15 TSL swampers on the manch and loved them and everything everyone says about their on/off road characteristics is true ! But I loved them , the noise is like music to my ears . I also ran some IIRC some 31or 32 9.50-15 pizza cutters for a wile and liked those just cause they were different though I never wheeled them.
  3. When I taped out a line on the rocker to cut along I made the line straight across from the rocker to the bed and started cutting ! I eyeballed were I wanted to cut , drew a line and started cutting all in less than 5 minutes as I didn't want to think about what I was doing ! So in my hast when I first test fit the 2x6 in place the bed was also hitting the slider so instead of making another cut which I didn't want to do I went ahead and slowly bent a lip in the sheet metal with some duck bill vice grips and left about. 1/2" or less gap which I think is about perfect . Also I hindsite I think rolling the edge worked best as it doesn't leave a sharp edge hanging down and adds a little rigidity to the panel , at least that's what I tell my self !
  4. No problem , Glade to help ! Ya I'm liking the JCR steering , it's way better that stock and it's simple ! No reinventing the wheel on this one . The only complaint I have is I had to limit the steering stops to keep the steering from hitting the springs but it's not a huge deal and iv been on the lookout for a remedy to it like an offset TRE or something . I gave the front end a workout a couple weeks ago when I took it wheeling as I plowed the front end into / over everything I could and put some good rock rash every where and just barely kissed the steering in a few spots . IIRC there was a rumor of a "spacer" that was used on early J trucks that had a similar steering setup that used a metal washer top and bottom with a piece of rubber in between that supposedly worked better than the plastic/polly one sullied I the kit though iv not had to replace mine ever so .... As for bump steer I never had a huge problem with it before I modded the track bar but that could be just me .
  5. I installed the JCR OTK kit on my manch and fabled up my own track bar mounts out of some scrap steel and it came out very nice . Wile I was there I fabed my own double shear track bar mount (frame side) and modified the procomp track bar to fit ! Iv got some good pics in my build thread http://comancheclub.com/topic/5194-project-fubar/page-2
  6. Ok so one thing that i have a question on, did you cut on the outside of the pinch weld? but kept the pinch weld? I noticed you don't have supports going to the frameI cut the whole lower pinch weld seam off , it all came out as one piece which also makes it easier for someone else to patch there rotted rockers. In one of the pics you can see that the portion that was left landed perfect on the lower edge of the 2x6 so it welded and blended in perfectly . ah ok. So its plenty strong without welding braces to the frame?I have drug these things over and through some gnarly stuff and they have held up so far . I plan on adding some supports/guesting at some point but haven't come up with something that doesn't hang down like most iv seen . When I do my exo cage it will tie into some slider kick outs and tie everything in very nicely . IMO they are very tuff as they sit right know and I don't worry about them when I'm out wheeling as there's plenty else hanging down low to worry about first like my rear drive shaft that's all beat up now !!
  7. Thanks but they ain't white there just brushed aluminum , though it does look they are white and it looks kinda cool ! Humm.......
  8. Glad you like them ! The best advice I can give is make the cleanest straightest cut you can and when you clean the paint off the sheet metal use a scotch bright type abrasive (I used a 90deg die grinder with the screw on pads) . It takes off just the paint making burn through less likely , I was using a sanding disc at first and it was taking off too much even as careful as I was being and it was causing issues . I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting but will post as I think of it.

  10. Iv done it and I used 2x6 3 3/16 box steel ! Also my right side slider is also my air tank . http://comancheclub.com/topic/5194-project-fubar/ it's in my build thread some were
  11. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Project_XJ/Project_XJ.htm Here is a good link with a bunch of good info. As for the clutch you can get a neutrally balanced flywheel from a newer s10 though I can't remember the years . You don't have to swap the tranny out right away ya know , it can be done later on so you can focus on just the swap . Just a thought
  12. So wait Pete , yer not with out a Comanche are you ?
  13. As far as I know my mj had the originals in it when I got it and I drove it for 7 more years till I upgraded the shafts .I inspected them and they were perfect ! After years of wheeling and running around with large tires and offset wheels I replaced them with the mile marker hub kit for IIRC about $550 and later upgraded the hubs to the HD warn outer hubs. I still have the original wheel bearings that I throw in the truck when I go wheeling incase somebody needs one .
  14. The spiter valve is referred to as a " DV2 Resv Drain Vlv" and is made by Bendix ,part # is 281924x
  15. I installed a spitter valve on my compressor so it automatically drained water , we had a bunch of them left over on the shel at work that went to some old crown school buses . I'll get a part number on Monday for them .
  16. FWIW when I purchased my first lift for the mj about 14 years ago the 4.5" lift was specifically for a xj as there was only one lift specially for the mj and I couldn't afford it . It came with AAL rear which I installed and they worked just fine leveling out the truck with the front and are still under the back to this day in a spring over configuration working just fine .

    Rusted Out MJ

Wow ! That's one of the reasons I decided to move back to Cali when I lived in NC for just over a year, the weather out there just ate my truck to bits .
  18. Count me in ! Central ca !!
  19. Check the voltage to the pump and the fuel pressure! what kind of fuel filter does it have now as the original 2.8 fuel filter setup was in the carb ?
  20. are you referring to the show "red green" ?
  21. I had a lockright in my old 35 and a few months after I installed it I broke the center shaft so I installed one out of a full size chevy but had to cut it down cause it was to long. I ran that till I broke all the pins in it then I just welded the 2 half's together making it into a spool and drove it for 2 years like that till I swapped axles ! I drove a lot better like that than it did with the locker in it , no more unexpected lane changes but I ate tires like crazy and it was super fun in the rain ! I wouldn't recommend it for everyone though because you always have to pay attention wile driving especially in the rain.
  22. I had the stock totally worn out 2.8 in it , prior to swapping it out I lifted it from 5" up to 9" and stuffed some 33" swampers under it and geared it with 4.88 which the gearing itself made a huge difference ! It drove better at that point than it ever did and then I swapped in the 3.4 and then that was a night and day difference though I also installed an edelbrock intake at the same time but it was still way better!

    Honda CT110

Nice find ! I cut my teeth on our 1969 trail 90 ! Dad still has it and iv been after him to get it going again ! How much did it cost if ya don't mind me asking? Those things go for stupid money around here !
  24. Hahah poor old Comanche! Did it sound any good? I've heard some of them straight piped and they sound really bad!It was loud as hell ! But actually sounded good , when I got the truck it was 100% stock and one of the first things I did was slap a cherry bomb on it , then after a bit I ditched the entire tail pipe assembly and put a turn down on it . Wasn't happy with that so I fiddled with different turn downs then I went to a 2chamber flow with a turndown and cut the turn down off right at the tapper on the muffler and was finally happy with that for a couple years . So about ten years ago I torched a 4" hole in the back of the flow master and welded a short 90deg turn down to it and have been really happy with that bit now iv been wanting to hollow out the cat to make it a little louder just because . Iv got some youtube vids of the exhaust and a couple wheeling ones where you can hear it .
  25. Yea another 2.8 ! The more everyone hates them the more I love them ! Ya they are gutless ( why I swapped in a 3.4) and prone to throwing up their inner bits at the drop of a hat but mine served me well and put up with the abuse of a high school kid . As for leaks the 2 most common places I've found are the distributor and the intake valley , both easy fixes esp the distributor . When you get it , clean the engine off well esp down near the distributor and take it for a short drive stoping every so often to check to see where it's coming from and go from there . And yes there are some mods to improve performance and reliably though it's arguable if they are cost effective but who cares about that nonsense ! It's a jeep.
