I did the 3.4 swap and retained the stock carb set up due to emissions but i swaped the intake for the edelbrock one and my truck flat out screams now compared to how it used to run . I don't know what it gets to the gallon but i don't really care either since its only a toy now. one day i would like to get the edelbrock headers and the webber carb but can't afford it now so it will have to wait.

Thanks for the input guys , I'm gona hit up a couple of friends that have local shop and see what they use and if different from Alldata then maby give it a try when i get some spare time .
-
Ya over the years iv noticed that most of what you find on alldata is copied straight out of the factory service books when iv compared and Alldata still is better than fliping through a book but I was just curious if there was something else better out there , owell i guess ill just stick with what we got .

So i work for a relativly small school district on all everything from buses , trucks and chainsaws so were not a shop out to make money or anything but we still try to keep up with the jones so about 5 or 6 years ago we started using alldata which is not to bad but it seems when they did a software up date 8 or 10 months ago or so they changed their whole format which seemed to squash there quality of help they provided . For instance i was looking for a break down on how to remove a heater core in one of our vehicles to get an idea on time etc... and all they basicly said was step 1) Drain coolant ,step 2) remove old heater core ,step 3) installation in reverse order . I mean what the hell is that ! am I asking for to much ? and the more Iv been needing to use it the more it seems to be lacking the proper info I need and I don't rightly recall it being so bad in the past . It does have some good info at times and is better than a chiltons but but for the amount we pay for there services id expect a little more . So what do yall use ? i only have ever used Alldata (or as i call it at times "Somedata") but have herd of Mitchell and I'm not sure if they offer what Alldata does , Iv glanced at there website and it looks like they offer some kind of shop manager data base or something which is not what i need but is there something else out there like Alldata but better? thanks.

Steering Column Tilt Bolts?
86FUBAR replied to Comanchecatcher's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In a pinch iv used a 1/4" drive ratchet , extension , swivel and a IIRC a 8mm or 5/16 socket as it fits nicely over the torques head . At one point I was doing so many of those dang things I had taken the proper sized 3/8 drive torques socket and turned it down on the lathe so it just barely fit down in there . -
Many years ago my Comanche felt like it was getting rear ended every once and awhile , this went on for months and months and I kept thing it was a motor mount or Trans mount broken but the motor mounts were fine and Trans mount was only a little suspicious . I checked everything until one day I was driving home ( the day I graduated high school no less ) and my truck ground to a halt as the spider gears finally gave up the ghost . Might be worth a look .

better yet get to know the local crematory operator --- no dna left and looks like sand  Or just live 5 min from the ocean like i do , the deepest part of the ocean is maby 20-30 min boat ride and is 2 miles deep ( they say the actual trench its self is comparable to the grand canyon) . o and have a really good budy with a big boat also like i do :brows:

Well that jeep is gone ! Man you got to be quick around these parts on these jeeps , I'm seeing tons of grand Cherokees but i really don't want want one of them as the wife had a 94 v8 about 7 years ago and it was quite problematic though it may have just been a fluke . Anyhow I still got time till I "need" new wheels so ill keep hunting till I find what something.
-
Well that's good to know , ya I didn't even notice it as I was to busy thinking how nice it would be to drive it every day and my wife said it looks like the dash was replaced or something .
-
Well I'm moving on and in doing so I came across a 1998 Cherokee loaded and my wife pointed out that the dash was a different color and since I don't know I figured I'd ask if this was factory or not Anybody shear some light on this ?
-
Well it looks like i was victim of a craigslist flake ! i called on thursday morning like we had talked about and shook on and i got no answer , left a couple messages and got nothing he seemed like a nice kid (25 years old) but i guess a hand shake dosnt mean much to some people anymore . Now I'm only 30 but i was raised up with the idea that a hand shake or your word was as good as cash money in the bank because IMO it is a direct reflection or your character but i guess that train of thought is lost on many. I can only assume that he found some one else that was willing to pay more or paid cash on the spot but I just would have liked a call or something . Well whatever ill keep looking . ok enuf ranting

Anyone Upgrade Their 2.8L Coil/ignition?
86FUBAR replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I upgraded the ignition in mine with an msd offroad ignition msd 8.5 wires and soon as I put it on a msd coil . I have long since ditched the 2.8 in flavor of the 3.4 though but I did notice some better drive ability after the initial upgrades . -
So I'm looking at getting a 1991 jeep Cherokee limited 4x4 auto with 191000 and after looking it over a bit today and a test drive I offered the guy 1900 if it passed smog ,he is getting it smogged on Thursday and hopefully it is all a go and I can mess with it this weekend . I know it needs a tune up and a good steam cleaning under the hood and probably some other fluids changed . It is totally un molested and most everything works as it should and the interior is in really good shape minus the headliner, drivers front seat and the over head digital display dosnt work , anybody have any info on the overhead ? anyhow I'm excited as I have never owned let alone driven an xj and the 4.0 is also new to me so this is going to be a learning experience but I think it is decent deal so....ya hopefully I will have pics to come soon. o and the manch isn't going anywhere so don't worry .

If it were me I would find some lights that fit in the notched corners and face them either towards the front or back , it would make it look less out of place and more custom ! You could get some rectangle flood lights and place them evenly in the corner void and face them towards the back . I think thats what I would do .
-
Well I swapped in a 3.4 and even with the stock fuel system it performs very well over the stock 2.8 . It was a complete night and day difference and best of all it was all a direct bolt on with no hacking of the electrical sys.

What Is The Best Steering System?
86FUBAR replied to TGTgoHARD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you just want to upgrade the stock stuff then the v8 steering I've herd is very worth it . For aftermarket stuff I liked the currie HD steering as it was really beefy and a direct replacement but IIRC it only went to 4" or 6" lift and still used stock sized TRE ( I've no personal experience with the curie setup but seen it in person and know people that have it) . Now I'm currently running the JCR 1 ton OTK setup which uses off the shelf parts as previously stated and available but you have to purchase a reamer which is no big deal to do the install and most importantly it's super simple but very strong . For the OTK though it does limit the steering a bit and the right side TRE is slightly modified for that specific app. Yes there are lots more out there but ...... This is just my experience . -
Life long niners fan ! It's only right that the niners win this year following the giants kick @$$ season !

I had a lunch box locker in my old 35 on 31" rubbers and it was definitely a life changing experience ! The tires wore faster and made a lot of extra noise in parking lots etc.... It didn't help that at that time I was a teenager and liked all that extra racket ( come to think of it I still do) . The most fun was when it would "unload" for no particular reason wile driving down the highway , sometimes causing it to change lanes at will ! However , through all the extra fun it did its job and did it cheap and that was the goal at the time . I've been told that automatics and longer wheelbases lessen the "troubles" previously mentioned along with more sensible driving habits but I digress . I'm currently running a Detroit out back on 35" and have little to complain about and if I had to do it all over again ( assuming the same financial situation ) I probably would do it all again . Remember if you go this route you can easily go back if not satisfied .

Since the manch has been designated to trail only / occasional dd for the last 8 years or so it almost never sees an opportunity to do any kind "work" . So when I needed to split a truck load or wood I had sitting on my lower property I felt it was the best tool for the job as the PW is big and heavy and the ranger is only 2wd and the lower property is sloped and very soft . So I drug out the splitter , hooked up and did some work , i love cutting , splitting and stacking wood but getting to doit with the manch was even more fun and it brought back some good memories.

Voted ! ........ Ready for my cut !

So I went out today to "fire up the fleet" and when I got to the Comanche I crunk it up and then had to get in to the glove box and when I opened it up it was full of water . Anybody else ever have this problem ? I'm sure it came from the windshield but just curious if anybody else had this problem.

86 4X4 2.8L External Clutch Slave
86FUBAR replied to captainkettel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ya I remember having the same problem ..... So I cut a hole in the floor and now it takes me 5 mins to change it out and I can bleed it by my self . I told myself that I was going to make a bitchin little sheet metal cover for it but that was like 12 or 13 years ago and the duck tape holds up real well ish... -
When i bought my PW i had to get 2 one way tickets , one for me and my dad and we flew down to San Diego to pick it up and road triped it the 10 hrs home. Had the owners pick us up at the air port and we went to a parking lot to look it over . The best part is they stoped at a gas station on the way to the parking lot and "FILLED THE TANK" so that saved me about $130 . Rember its never to far if its exactly what you are looking for.
