  1. you know you're stuck when you're in a stock XJ with the left rear tire barely touching the ice/snow/ground while standing on the rear bumper, and the right front tire being in the bottom of a 3' deep hole that wasn't there the last time you drove threw that dirt road in a chevy lumina...
  2. it's miss dakota, cherokee, comanche, and raider, now that you mention it.
  3. i paid less for an 88 long bed 4.0l auto 4wd in similiar condition, 86k miles...that's too much.
  4. having started with XJ's that all had buckets, i find them much more comfortable. the bench isn't too bad, although i plan to swap the back from the 90 i'm parting to the 88 i now drive because of the head rests. i'd like to find a bench seat from a similar size vehicle that has more of a 60/40 split with bucket-like support, perhaps from a dakota, ranger, or s10? i haven't done the measurements yet to see what would work well, but then i have the best of all the above :D
  5. mostly DD since the nissan has the child car seat, so my wife uses that most of the time...but also cause i move around too much crap to not have a truck. wheeler? when i have the time and money for it...
  6. that's no token of peace... on an individual basis, there will be bad apples who try and rip off others no matter how many regulations you put in place. however, they can be harmful to those with honest intentions. when my wife got in an accident with our nissan, i didn't have a membership on any nissan sites, but i did post up a few parts for sale. i never got much response, which is understandable, but there are people who have a legitimate reason to post just a few times to sell things.
  7. oh yea, there's also volvo's. the turbo's have some pretty good power, although i wouldn't expect more than 20-something mpg out of one.
  8. my parents have a 1993 940 wagon, NA...nice enough car, lots of room under the hood to make it a sleeper. auto transmissions are AW's like our Jeeps. dependable as all get out when they're maintained. i don't have a link, but there's a mag called "the brick" that my dad gets about volvos.
  9. :agree: i might add something, like "pm sent about ____(fill in the blank for part)".

  11. I thought that was based of the Navajo language?
  12. hey now! how'd you read my mind while i was typing?
  13. I gotta say, :agree: with the Altima, except that it doesn't fit your pre-90's qualification. My DD/family car is a 94 Altima and I had a 98 before that. They're also not overly common, but still have a lot of options for tweaking. A good XJ or MJ 4cyl/2wd/manual would get close to 30mpg highway... My father in law has an 83? Mercedes Benz 300TD. In stock form, not the fastest thing on the road but it's unique, and good fuel economy.
  14. i did that on my old XJ, too. only i did it in red...too lazy to mess with it right now on my truck.

  16. i don't know what trans off hand came behind them, but an aw4 would bolt up if you wanted to do some adapting for the control circuits. sounds like a decent deal, the reman engine alone could be worth that, depending on how many miles are on it.
  17. how much those cost you? i work at a print shop so i could get a quote for you.
  18. well there are a few things i've got to work out on it. TPS seems to be about out, it leaks pretty good at the valve cover (thinking about swapping to a late model VC with the improved CCV system), needs a rear brake line, and swapping some things over from my old truck like the full gauge cluster and the trailer hitch. i'm not a big fan of towing with a bumper hitch.
  19. i don't know if i'd say i deserve it, but i'll make good use of it :D at some point, though, it was in a minor accident. notice the driver side decals on the bed aren't right, and the paint's more shinny on that side.
  20. yea, those steps are not going to be there long. as for price, about $2k. not too bad, i think.
  21. ...so i'm just calling this my new truck. Specs: 1988 Comanche Pioneer Long Bed 4.0L Auto 4wd 086,431 miles at purchase Almost no rust Factory Skid package (front, t-case, fuel tank) Rear slider window A/C (needs work) Grandma car for first 71,000 miles until 2001. Has an aluminum topper, too. Bed liner Did I mention almost no rust?
  22. for some reason, i find that funny...about the training in german
  23. Basset Hounds make good indoor dogs because they are often happy to lie around. Many think they are dumb, but it's more that they only do what they are convinced they want to do. My family has had a few, and they always make great dogs. Not as active and playful, though. I had an English Spring Spaniel. He was a good dog, they can be well trained. However, they (as with most spaniels) have a lot of energy. Mine was a field bread, and he was rather large for his bread, usually they're around 50-60 lbs I believe. http://www.autumnskye.com/ is a link to my aunt's site, she breed them but they aren't cheap. I personally like boxers and bull terriers, which are breads people often label "pit bull". The thing about them is they make great, loyal family dogs when treated properly. Any dog, when mistreated, will lash out. Honestly, though, I wouldn't worry about AKC papers too much. Often, "mutts" make the best dogs.
