oh i can pull the engine, it's already down to the block and i have an extra block on my hoist right now i got cheap in case i do the stroker build. engines aren't as cheap around here, i guess. the other problem is picking up an engine, since my truck obviously can't move much right now...and i don't think the wife would like it in the back of her car  i'm not in a big rush, since she's staying home with the baby for now we can have just one working car. the other factor is the time and money to put into fixing a truck that has half a bed due to rust, no rockers (although i have some waiting to go one thanks to mfpdm on here), and no driver's floor panel. the 88 i'm looking at is solid in all those places. call me crazy, i'm also not the biggest fan of un-proven junk yard engines, but i have been looking for junk yard engines and trucks being parted out.

i kind of like that option, it's a lot like the last one i listed except making the 88 the cheromanche, correct? if i drop another motor in rusty, i don't think i can justify getting the 88 for a cheromanche project at this time. the other reason i like getting the 88 and then keeping rusty for a cheromanche project is that way i don't cut up a really clean MJ and bed. a lot of what is rusted on rusty would be cut and welded/repaired/modified in a cheromanche project anyways, so not much extra work compared to starting with a clean MJ. that way, i'm preserving/saving two MJ's :D some other things to consider is time and space. i only have a 1.5 stall garage at the moment, and i do car work from my garage for side income, thus putting a bunch of time into my truck means less money making time, and less time with my wife and 6 month old (as of today) son. i've been keeping an eye open for a good engine for a swap candidate, but haven't seen any for a price i like.

as i understand it, a parked car/truck doesn't need collision coverage adn counts as property damage, same as if some one ran into your house. you should be able to get it fully covered on that basis.

so the other day, "Rusty" had a lifter fail. tearing down, i found that all the lifters are shot and it needs a new cam to get going again. all this after i just did a 4wd conversion. here's more about that truck http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5129. it's a 1990 4.0 long bed auto 4wd, trans has 61,xxx miles. after tear down, i also found signs of oil starvation, although it still ran fine and i've never run it dry. has great oil pressure. the truck i'm looking at with 86,250 miles on it is an 88, i'd be the third owner, has almost no rust (including solid floors and rockers), 4.0/auto/4wd/longbed. comes with a topper, a sliding rear window, pioneer package. rear axle is just a 35. the guy's asking $2500, which is about what KBB says it's worth. I'll go look at it Saturday and probably offer $2000 since I wasn't planning to get a truck at this point anyways. He's selling due to having 4 kids now.
-
scratch those plans for the time being...next major project is either replace the truck :( or rebuild the motor. damn lifters! looks like someone before me ran it oil starved at some point, never gave me any symptoms until a lifter went out and i lost power.

saw a movie today full of jeeps, even an mj. cool!!
dfreeman616 replied to brdhntr's topic in The Pub
yea i noticed that about the "mj" when it was burning, that it was really an xj. i saw an article about that movie once where they said the jeeps may have kept the crew safe while they were filming. something about flash floods and the other vehicles couldn't make it through back to shelter. -
:agree: looks like it's from overseas somewhere, at least the front plate suggests that.

this was on sunday but i'm up late... drove it to a friend's house where i fixed his one car in the driveway since it wouldn't shift out of park (safety interlock solenoid failed, mid-90's bonneville). since his bonneville was a large paperweight yesterday morning, he had tried to drive his kia sportage around his house in the snow we got saturday, which failed due to finding a large hole, and the vacuum system failing on the auto hubs, leaving him no 4wd (a problem so common that kia makes an upgraded hub/knuckle/axle shaft kit for it). so i got to test out my recently converted 4wd comanche and pull him out (including by-passed vacuum disconnect, man i'm glad i did that). drove home.

how much you guys want to make a few of those? :brows: :brows:
-
they use a mercedes benz diesel, but that's about all i know.
-
well if that's the case, the previous owners sure must have been speeding a lot :rotfl2: aside from a few small things like a coolant leak at the water pump, my next project will be to patch some of that rust up with some rockers and a combination of 3 different beds, as well as some patches for the floor. should get plenty o'use out of that welder i'll be getting in the next week or so :D

:agree: but i have to say some of the best chocolat is Perugina, from Italy

well i just got done with a bit of a project on it now...and rusty is now 4wd! :D :driving: :driving: :driving:

this is from last night, but since it went til 3am cleaning up tools... finished converting rusty to 4wd with spare parts i had laying around, although i had to replace some things like the exhaust down pipe/cross over due to a large hole. next up will be fixing up the rust once i get the panels and the welder.

and that one does have 268,000 miles on it...still could go longer, tho.

mechanical engineering, but only on the side as i work full time with a wife and kid. it's going to be a few more years before i'm done at best, even though i have somewhere in the junior/senior level for credits completed.

I don't think hes the anticrist or anything.. enemy.... nah. I mean hes our president.. I didnt vote for him, but hes still the pres.. I can only wish he does his best to correct this countries issues.... As I said, I don't think he's the enemy either. I didn't vote for him, but I don't hate him either. I haven't ever been in the military, so I wasn't familiar with that particular oath.
-
I agree to a point, but I'm curious what oath that would be? The Military one that says "protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic?" If so, could not the President become an enemy of the US after being elected? Don't get me wrong, I don't think President Obama is our enemy, but something to think about. That oath is not to any one man. I disagree. I think that only citizens should be allowed to vote and our laws have always supported that concept. If you want to vote here, become a naturalized citizen. The shame is that half of the people who COULD vote here, do not take the time to do so. As the law stands now, only citizens are allowed to vote. Get enough people to say otherwise who are also citizens, and we could change it. That's one nice thing about the US, that we can change the laws if enough citizens want to (at least in theory, getting it done is another thing).

ahh that's different then. might work for that.

no info, but unless there's some good tie-ins to an internal frame, that needs more triangulation to do much good.

a friend of mine once said he's not raciest, he's a culture-ist...(making up words aside...). nothing wrong with black people, i've know quite a few good people who are black, and i've known quite a few white people who are jack@sses. that's a perfect example of why i'm opposed to the culture many black people have embraced.

got any technical details on that extended cab 1991 comanche? i want to do that to mine...more or less.
