Got the donor - here's my plan-- 2wd renix to 4wd HO
dfreeman616 replied to twojeeps's topic in The Pub
on the note of driveshaft length, you can get a shop to shorten the one from your MJ, if you can't find the right one. is your truck a long or shot bed? (6 or 7 foot)? -
Best way to transport a 2nd Bed
dfreeman616 replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i did the flip-over, strap down with mine with one slight twist: i placed a couple boards side-to-side across the bed rails so as to make it easier to get into position without balancing it. worked great. :D -
What seats fit in the MJ?
dfreeman616 replied to Diehard Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
depends on how much work you want to do. i know i've seen ford explorer seats in a chero-manche project awhile back, later model black leather ones to be exact. anything you do will require custom brackets. -
niiice. not really my thing, i wouldn't want to ride that 11.5 miles each day. sounds like a sweet deal you got.

i believe i have a NIB PCI modem as well, 56k as i recall. you're welcome to it.

gas prices make me --> :headpop: so i got something a little better on the wallet for fuel costs, brand new out of the show room :D and it only cost me $325  :D anyone else going for some pedal power?

you're welcome. by the way, i got that slider pulled out and ready for you. i even found the latch on the floor, it just needs to be re-glued.

i see you have some diagonal bracing on the rear of the bed after the chop. i was thinking about doing something like that with de-skinning my bed, seeing as how there's not much left of the sides anyways. i kinda like it now that i've seen a pic, i'm just concerned about if it would be to flimsy for how i use my truck. -
stall/hard start after new fuel injectors
dfreeman616 replied to dfreeman616's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
today, it did it again. jiggled the MAP sensor connection, and it seems to be workign fine now. guess i'll have to see. i did replace the injectors as a batch, but i'm sure of the correct wiring. -
i haven't had much time to look into this issue yet, and since it's intermittent i suspect it will be hard to pin point, so if anyone has some suggestions, here's my issue: 1988 cherokee 4.0l, auto. just installed a set of injectors from here: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7770&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=fuel+injectors&start=0 . at first, it had a hard time starting for the first couple drives, i figured it was the computer relearning the proper fuel trims due to the increased fuel flow. then it was fine for about a week, until it stalled out while my wife was driving on the freeway, wouldn't restart. got it pulled to a parking lot with the comanche, came back a couple hours later, inspected and found the MAP vac line disconnected. reconnected, seems to be fine from since friday. today, hard start with similar symptoms, only started after several attempts with holding the gas a bit. has a newer oxygen sensor (november or so, i think?) but only had problems since the injectors were replaced. also, i don't have numbers to back this yet, but it seems to be going through gas a bit fast now.

woot! -
that's why i'm going to start biking once the weather permits and i figure out how to store it in my 1 bed apartment without the wife commenting on it. i figure i'll save about $1000 that way with current gas prices and how much i drive the 'manche right now. as for prices i saw today, out around holland/grand haven/muskegon michigan, it's around 3.19. around grand rapids, 3.29.

so do you think these would fit on my mj
dfreeman616 replied to Mattpioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
but it says guess it must fit, then! :thwak: -

for being in london, that doesn't seem like that high of a price.

until last friday, i worked at a kia dealer in the service department (left for better pay, better career field). we didn't have too many mechanical problems with them. i'd say the biggest problem is on the 4wds, the vacuum hub system tends to fail and get contaminated, which requires replacing the front driveshafts, hubs, knuckles, and some vac lines. check to see if that's been done and if the 4wd works. the warranty on those is 5 years/60,000 miles for anyone after the 1st owner (i.e. used ones). the original owner would have 10 years/100,000 miles for the powertrain (including the 4x4 problem i mentioned), so if there's a problem with the 4x4 get it fixed before the sale.

i agree with zukidave. it all depends on what you want. sure you can't do as many 'truckish' things with it as a comanche, but that's the same as a comanche compared to a 1-ton truck. if you're looking for an off road capable vehicle for 2 with additional storage space that doesn't have to be locked up or kept dry, it could be useful. i probably wouldn't get one because i've got a family and 2 seats won't cut it, and once i replace my comanche ( :( ) it will have to have more room, unless i chop it cheromanche style. but still, i wouldn't call it a waste.

It does not considered as a project
dfreeman616 replied to Super_MJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
i don't see anything about a front pinion, only the rear (which is shown in the pics) -
that seems highly suspect, why would someone go from a 2.5 to a 4.0 and back to a 2.5?

i ordered a part from him, it took awhile to get but i do have it. now i just need to have time to install it. looks like he last posted january 22nd. there's always the possibility something did happen to him.
