  1. I'm looking to pick up a Jeep Comanche again. Only requirement is that it be rust free and a 4.0L I'm located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I would be willing to pick up withing 300 miles if it's what I'm looking for. Let me know, -Mitch
  2. Replaced the valve cover gasket. What a disaster that was, while putting the valve cover back in it snagged the coolant line, tearing a hole in it, dumping coolant into the top of the engine...
  3. I would go new, but $247 each is a little more than I'd like to spend on a 1989 2WD beam. :rotf: The spindle is more what I'm concerned about. On the 2WD models there's a "dummy" type spindle correct?
  4. I need new ball joints, and was wondering while replacing them if I can throw on the knuckles from a newer style 2WD beam? Or even a Dana 30? I'm assuming they would fit fine, I'd just need to find the dummy spindles that hold the hub assemblies together. anybody know where I could find those?
  5. I'm not sure what your problem is with the 249 transfer case. It was your Dana 30 that failed, not the transfer case. In fact, aside from the viscous coupler in the 249 that wears out (actually, the permanent fluid in it breaks down) it's a great transfer case. I know people who have been driving on the fried Viscous Coupler for years with no trouble aside from the wheels chirping at full lock anyways. You can swap a 242 in if you like, most 4.0 ZJ's have a 242. But the full time 249 is a better design than the full time option on the 242 (the 242 acts like an open differential, whereas the 249 acts as a limited slip). I personally like the Quadra-Trac Tcases (249,247) but, it's personal preference I guess. I know guys who wheel with a 249, and 247 with no problems. You may want to consider a new front axle though. :D
  6. New tires and wheels today. 245/70/16's are quite the step up from the 225/70/15's They look like about the max you can fit on stock hight up front :D
  7. A neighbor swapped in a brand new Ford engine into a wrangler last year. He could not keep it from overheating, had a custom radiator made, hood scoop, fan shroud, everything. He finally found out the brand new engine was shot (That's Ford for you) and had to replace it. I can't remember exactly what was wrong with it, but it sounds like a similar issue you're having.
  8. Does anybody know where to find these retainers? I've just got the bedliner sitting in my Comanche now, but would like to mount it down somehow.
  9. Google is your best friend on things like this. You should get some answers right away. I do know of a cabin I've stayed at where they had probably 3 deep cycle battery's and that was enough to power all the lights all night. The lights and the generator were wired separately (lights wired to batteries, most of the outlets were wired straight to the generator) Also their generator had a remote in the cabin to start it, I think it may have had some sort of display to show fuel level and stuff too.
  10. Some of you guys are taking things too seriously here. The government can't access anything worth worrying about on your computer just by visiting their site. They can only get as much information as any other website can (AKA, worthless browser data). They don't have some mega-spy virus that downloads all your private porno to their servers...
  11. The fuel pump went out on my Comanche so I began replacing it today. Old one popped out just fine and thought everything was fine and dandy. But the new pump doesn't fit correctly in the mount, so I had to shave a little bit off of the top bracket and got it to fit. The tank is sitting on the ground, and I just connected the pump before I bring the tank back up. The pump runs when I turn the key to run, but does not pump any gas. There is about 3 gallons of gas in the tank, so it should pump gas shouldn't it? Is this just a bad pump?
  12. In the description of that video he said it had been running for two minutes. Plus the 4.7 is an overhead cam engine, by designed it probably can't run without oil as long as an old pushrod engine. Since when is a 2001 Grand Cherokee considered a clunker!? WJ's are the best Grand Cherokee Jeep ever made, probably the last "Jeep" they ever made (WJ's are the last Grand with a solid front axle, and they were offered with the 4.0 I6).
  13. I was looking over my girlfriend's 4.0 Grand Cherokee today and noticed something strange. The intake manifold has a plate where the EGR valve would be on a renix, but has a High output throttle body. I thought the HO throttle body doesn't bolt to a renix intake manifold...?
  14. Get the V8, they have a stronger transmission than the 4.0's (44re vs. 42re), plus they move a lot quicker. :) You may want to consider a WJ too, much more refined than ZJ's, and with my 4.7L V8 WJ I get 23MPG on the highway, better than the 4.0 gets. Also, the 545RFE transmission in the 4.7L WJs is significantly stronger than any ZJ transmission. And with Quadra-Drive (Front and rear limited slips) you really can go anywhere. I previously owned a ZJ before I bought the WJ, and the WJ is a better vehicle. Everything seems "tighter" in it, probably do to the much stronger unibody over ZJ's. The brakes are better, acceleration is better, steering is better, and the ride is better. Not that ZJ's are bad, I would buy one again if I spotted a great deal, but the WJ is a better Jeep.
  15. I found this: http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Coo ... gnosis.htm Appears that renix's also have the diode, and thats what melted itself today. So what exactly is the purpose of the diode?
