Assuming you have the plugs in, it should be hard to turn over by hand as you will be going through 3 compressions for each full revolution of the crankshaft (for a 6 cylinder, 2 if it's a 4 cylinder). The more wear you have on the rings and cylinder bores and valves/valve seats, the easier it will be to turn it over as the compression can leak by more easily. I would also turn it over with the plugs out to see if there are any hard spots. I would drop the pan first as you need to check the crank and rod bearings and the oil pump. You can also check the underside of the pistons and the cylinder bores for damage. If you find bent pushrods, you should check the timing chain and sprockets (you haven't said how many miles on the engine, but my 88 was way past due for new timing chain and sprockets at 180K). You'll also need to pull the head to check for bent valves and damage to the tops of the pistons Sounds like an excellent opportunity for an engine rebuild.

I've got one. It's NOS for a 4WD that I bought for my 88 2WD (they didn't have a 2WD cable), then found a 2WD cable at P&P. It's PN 04897729AA. PM your e-mail address and I'll send you some photos.

Engine Temperature verses performance Renix 4.0L
Keyav8r replied to hillbilly51's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Off topic, but I've got to ask. If the Volvo injectors improved your gas mileage by 9 MPG, what was it before the injectors and what is it now? I recently checked my 91 and got 18+ on a mix of interstate and street driving (probably more highway than street). If I can pop in a set of those 746's and get 27 MPG I'll be ordering a set PDQ. -
Yep, know them well.

Hopefully, the change in Congressional leadership and the differencevof power will provide to change/ revoke some of the truly dumb things that have been done, under very questionable situations in. Some vircumstancrs, like ACA (ruining the greatest healthcare system on earth), sending troops into quaratine areas to bringbthe virus back here, etc. I wantbto see the USA as the no.1 power on this earth and turning back To The N0. I- terrorist/ anti- American and a God-loving anf fearinh nation

Paid $2.639 for regular at an Exxon in Springville, AL yesterday. Probably had 10% ethanol in it. On another subject, had to use my 91 MJ as a daily driver for a few days while having a transmission put in my Silverado. Got 18 + MPG, mostly highway miles at 70 - 75 MPH.

Thanks, Don. I saw ignition resistors on several sites but didn't know the resistance value. I believe tha 1.2 resistor I saw had threaded terminals. I like the relocation.
-
Didn't try Rock Auto, thanks.
-
Does anyone have a resistance value for this? And/or a source for a new one? Mine is split in half, but both connectors are still attached to the lower half. Tried to find one on several parts store sites with no luck. May just make a pilgrimage to P&P and see if there's a whole one on a XJ.

May be a little play on words by Hornbrod, possibly hinting that the Series is not really Seriuos to many. I'm not a baseball fan, but usually watch the Series. Haven't had the urge to do so this year, so to me it's not a World Serious.

Passed through here as a mostly rain event. Didn't get the big lightning show that was happening down around Tuscaloosa and winds weren't noticeably an issue. I think we may have caught a soft spot in the line.

Background: 91 Eliminator - cruise control would lock on and keep accelerating. I had to turn the engine off, coast to the side of the interstate and disconnect the cable at the throttle body. Picked up a "new" actuator (the vacuum motor with the cable to the throttle body) at P&P and finally got around to starting the replacement today. As I was removing the actuator I noticed a lot of slack in the vacuum line going diwn behind the bumper to the vacuum ball. I managed to move things around enough to see that there is no vacuum ball, just a screw in the rnd of the line. My question - Could the absence of the vacuum ball (reservoir) cause the cruise to lock on and keep accelerating? Or, is it's absence just coincidental (which is what I'm thinking)? I plan to replace the vacuum ball in either case, but need to know if it causes/contributes to the problem.

Fastener question for comanches, SAE or metric?
Keyav8r replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
One example - 91 Eliminator - cruise control - the bolts that hold the actuator bracket to the inner fender are SAE - the studs that mount the actuator to the bracket are metric. I suppose there was some logic involved somewhere in the design/assembly process but, maybe not. -
Wanted: TX: sending unit for 88 4.0 shortbed !FOUND one!
Keyav8r replied to Kickinmule's topic in Wanted
Don't need one, sold my 88. Just curious. However, if you'd found a couple of 91 sending units I would probably be interested in one as a spare/backup. -

Where did you find one? -
Totally un-intentional. Or, maybe subliminal influence from seeing your location(s) on your posts.

gomorgo - Well said, sir. Well said, indeed! -
I knew that if I waited long enough the "eh" would appear. Got the hockey reference in there, also. Now throw in something about US beer being pony pi$$ and it will be a complete Canadian post.

What shifter knob and boot?
Keyav8r replied to thejim42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Eagle and Blue XJ - you're right about the threads. Thinking back, I pulled a knob off a later model XJ at the JY and it had the different thread. Thejim42 - if you're looking for the boot that fits on the console, they're available on eBay and Amazon as well as other places. If you want the boot that mounts on the floor/transmission hump, the OEM part I bought for my 88 is PN 53002864. Bought one a little over a year ago from the dealer for around $35.00. Some members have used the Quadratec PN 52106.03 and said that it was a good fit. I believe it costs a good bit less than the OEM part. -
What shifter knob and boot?
Keyav8r replied to thejim42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had an 88 Pioneer and I have a 91Eliminator and I bought replacement OEM style knobs for both because I wanted to keep the original look and I like the feel of the knob. Both were/are secured on the shaft by a locknut on the threads below the knob. It's a round nut with two flats for a wrench. If I remember correctly, the threads are different between the two models. -
Never mind. Someone just pointed out the members map sticky in this forum.

Hey, mods! Is there any way to search for members in a given area? For instance - Central Alabama or Northern Indiana, etc? Or maybe by city? A fellow member needs someone to check out a vehicle and knowing if there are any members in the area would simplify the process. It would also be nice to know if there are other members nearby.

Little more info - what lot in which town?

I originally voted for black. Can I withdraw my ballot (Marked in error? Hanging chad? Some other reason?) and vote for one of the apparent front runners?
