Yeah, I'm sure he'll do all the development work, pay for the drawing, spend time producing them, put up with the hassle of taking orders/shipping/getting paid, and then just give it away. Put me down for a pair - black is fine, gray would be better, but black is fine.

Bought the Ram. 2WD, Hemi, 8 speed auto, 20K miles. The 8 speed does make the truck feel light and it shifts smooth as silk. So far the mileage figure on the dash has been reading between 18 - 21 MPG in mixed driving. The trip meters record average mileage per trip. One was around 5K miles at 19.1 MPG and the other was around 3K mikes at 19.2. Filled it up last night and will be checking the mileage the "old fashioned" way to see how close the real world is to the mileage meter. I believe the mileage is going to be better than my old 05 Silverado and the Ram's a blast to drive. Just gotta keep my foot out light on the pedal.

Thanks, guys. About the only issue I had when I test drove the truck was lack of lumbar support in the seats. I've got a quite a few miles on my old body and comfort rates pretty high on my selection criteria. I think I can throw in a lumbar support cushion and solve that problem. Also found a site with aftermarket powered lumbar supports that can be installed in the seatback. The biggest impression I had was the power of the hemi and smmothness of the 8 speed auto. Looked at a loaded '15 GMC 1500 4WD but it's too nice a truck to run through quarries, cement and steel mills, and lime plants four or five days a week.

Is anyone daily driving a Ram pick-up? I'm looking at a 2014 Quad Cab, hemi, 8 speed auto to replace my 2005 Silverado with 240K miles. How long have you driven it? Good truck (why) or bad truck (why)? Any major issues and/or minor irritations? Yes, I know it's a Chrysler product, but so is my 91 Eliminator. I drive my truck for business use between 50 and 250 miles per day, depending on whether I'm commuting to the office or calling on customers. Occasionally (once a week or so) haul loads of up to 1,000 lbs.

I had forgotten about the Little Red Wagon. Brings back old memories - the smells of burnt rubber and nitro in the air!

rattling is driving me nuts
Keyav8r replied to ownedueasy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is it a metal on metal rattle or a plastic on metal rattle? Maybe there's some wiring running through the passenger side B pillar that came loose. Not sure if you can see the bottom end of the B pillar from under the dash. You could possibly use a mirror to look for it and see if there's anything hanging out. -
Dewalt 20V lithium ion. 3/8" drill, 1/2" drill and 1/4" impact driver at home. We also use Dewalt in our industrial repair shop and service department. They take a LOT of abuse and keep working.

Vacuum lines fixed, heater still weird...

Is the tubing connected to all the vents? Black spiral wound fabric tubing approx. 1-1/2" diameter. I took my lower dash panel off recently and realized afterwards I'd forgotten to hook the tubing back up when I re-installed the panel. -
Brake upgrades - 96 XJ dual diaphragm brake booster and master cylinder. Check DIY for that and I believe I saw something on upgrade to WJ calipers and rotors. Didn't think to pin it. There are several threads on death wobble causes and remedies.

Now I have a coil spring question.
Keyav8r replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Seeing at the old and new springs side by side, a 3" change in ride height looks reasonable. Those old ones are really sagged! There's a pinned thread in the DIY section on measuring ride height that you can use to check the height when you install the new springs and after they settle in. Eagle's measurements are Comanche specific and I believe they are based on the same measuring points as shown in the diagrams in that thread. I need to crawl under my truck and see how close it is to spec. One more thing to add to my "to do sometime in the future" list. -
That Mopar #04897729AA is available - from my garage. 76-3/4" length is probably right. I measured it by myself and it kept trying to curl up on me. It has the plastic clip end for the speedo. The two cables you posted links for look like they have the end for the metal clip with screw style connection at the speedo. The original speedo in my 88 had the connection for the plastic clip (the connector on the speedo had a groove around it for the clip to snap into). You may be able to get either end style to stay on your speedo by pushing it through the firewall grommet a little more to keep some pressure against the speedo connection. Let us know if the 96" cable length works or not. Seems like you would need a longer cable for 4WD.

Went to the garage and pulled it out of the box. Mopar P.N. 04897729AA. Measures about 76"end to end. Maybe someone on here can check the OEM P.N. and tell us if this is the correct P.N. or not. If not, I'm curious what it fits.

That's going to hurt bad!

I have an 88 MJ 4WD drive non-cruise cable I bought for my 2WD 88MJ. The guy didn't have a 2WD cable. I found a 2WD XJ cable at the JY and put it in the 88 before I sold it. It is a Jeep/Mopar NOS part still in the box and has the plastic clip on the speedo end and the threaded cap on the tranny end. I'll measure it and send you the P.N. tomorrow. You can have it for what I paid for it plus shipping (I'll have to find the receipt).

A hardware kit would get rid of the noise, but I would go ahead and do a rear brake job. Everything looks pretty rusty in there.

Lunghd, My post was not aimed at you. We may actually have been posting about the same time. You are correct that I did not respond to the OP's topic. I should have I was off topic. What I stated was that we need to be more open to and respective of other member's opinions. I don't believe I made any reference to squelching anyone's ideas or disrespecting anyone for any reason. Maybe common goal would have been the better term. My intent was to refer to our MJ community as a whole. I totally agree we should help out everyone whether they're Jeepers or not and whether they're driving hard core rock crawlers or street trucks. We're on the same page there. Forum troll? If what you mean by that is that I usually check it daily, that I sometimes follow a thread, or may check it more than once on off days - then maybe I'm a forum troll. Or, just a Comanche addict. There are some members who seem to take offense to anything posted that disagres with their mindset. Maybe I've just seen more of it than you have (being a forum troll) or maybe I'm an Olde Phart who's heard enough bitching and griping over the years and just likes to see everyone play nice together. Be careful out there in those rocky woods and have fun.

I think I got my new valves on eBay or Amazon for less than $25 each. If I could find the receipt I'd post it.

The purpose of this forum is to transfer accurate information, knowledge and experience among a diverse group of owners with differing plans and intententions for the use of their trucks. In that process there WILL be differences of opinion and different interpretations of information presented. Exploring those differences expands our understanding of the care, repair, improvement and use of our trucks. If we can't acept that others have different technical abilities, training, educational experiences and opinions and we aren't willing to consider that someone else may actually know more about a specific topic than we ourselves know, we will fail to learn and grow. Nothing is gained by exhibitions of hostility, animosity or other "smartass" behavior. There are already enough Jeep forums where the primary activity seems to be flaming anyone who dares to disagree with a stated opinion. We don't need to be one more of those. Our corporate goal for the forum in 2015 should be to raise the level of civility in discussions and exhibit more co-operation instead of contention. Just my personal observation and opinion. You're welcome to agree, disagree, or ignore as you please.

goin from regulars to led
Keyav8r replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you're not using your clock you can fab a panel to fit there that should take 4 to 6 toggle switches. Alternate location could be a panel fabricated to replace the ash tray. Would be a longer reach, but workable. -
If you replace the tank with a JY tank remember to replace the vents and tubing on top of the tank that go to the evaporative emissions canister. I had leakage there the first time I completely filled the tank on my 91. Dropped the tank, replaced them and no more gas odors or spillage. Dropping the tank also allowed me to test the sending unit and eliminate it as the cause of my inop gas gauge.

Happy New Year, Jim! And Happy New Year to all my other fellow MJ addicts!

Pushing toward $7K and will probably get there.

Lowest I've seen it in North AL is $2.199 at a Marathon station. My local Shell was $2.299 tonight.
