Jeep J200 Dump Truck On Ebay
Keyav8r replied to HOrnbrod's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I'm thinking it may be an aftermarket dump mechanism. The mount for the cylinder looks like a different material than the frame rails. I've seen dump conversion kits advertised somewhere, maybe Popular Mechanics. -
Need Some Wiring Help/ac As Aux Fan
Keyav8r replied to zfinger's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, your switch will have to stay in the hose fitting because your radiator doesn't have the bung fitting on the tank. My radiator had the bung with a plug in it. I bought all new hoses and planned to cut the lower radiator hose to accept the "tee" for the switch until I noticed the bung fitting on the radiator. Putting the switch there gave me a one piece hose from radiator to pump and eliminated two hose clamps and potential leak points. The truck ran fine before I replaced the hoses and moved the switch and AFAIK that arrangement may have been OEM. -
Need Some Wiring Help/ac As Aux Fan
Keyav8r replied to zfinger's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 88 had the fan switch in the hose as yours is shown. The radiator had been replaced before I bought it and had the bung (where the finger is pointing in ParadiseMJ's post). I replaced the hose (actually, all of the hoses) and moved the switch to the bung in the radiator. Fan works as it should when temp rises. Can't comment on operation with the AC as the AC is inop. -
Bump. Anyone in GA, TN, MN or NW FL?

They are usually on every XJ I see at the JY. Behind the bumper on the passenger side. As ParadiseMJ said, you don't necessarily have to have a jeep canister. On my 88 I relocated the canister to mount under the pressure bottle on the firewall. Shortens the tubing run and you can use fittings to tee in anything you need to connect.

The first set shown looks like the set I put in my 88, a single roller per link running on the timing sprockets. The second set is not a roller chain. It has "teeth" that mesh with the timing gears. The third set shown is a double width roller chain running on matching double sprockets. Compare the full width teeth on the gear in the second set to the two separate rows of teeth on the double sprocket in the third set. I believe that the gear type and the double row type are used in higher horsepower services to provide longer service life. When I changed the timing chain set on my 88 it had close to 200,000 miles on it and a lot of slack, but it still ran decently. The single row chain seems to work pretty well on our 4.0 engines as it's not uncommon to see engines still running at 300,000 miles. That being said, the 88 seems to run better/smoother with the new timing set installed.

Looking for one in good shape with tailgate cover piece. Every one I've seen on the forum seems to be in Canada or California.

Obviously they've never heard "Don't fix it if it ain't broke"!

Changing The Turn Signal Lights Out

Good looking truck! The amber lens look good with the chrome front end. I'm thinking about going clear (with amber lamps) on the side markers with the body colored (silver/gray) front end on my truck. -
Looks like a straight body and that interior looks great. Welcome to the club!

Gotta have some Southern Rock from bands like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynrd, The Marshal Tucker Band, ZZ Topp, Georgia Satelites, etc. Throw in Brooks & Dunn, maybe Cowboy Troy and Big & Rich, in the country mix. Add a little Jimmy Buffet for the "island rock" sound. Taking it back a little further to the R&B/Soul era you've got Otis Redding, Ray Charles, James Brown, Smokey Robinson, etc. 50's era had great groups like the Four Seasons and The Platters as well as some greats (not necessarily rock) like Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. That's the playlist on my iPod at the beach with the cold ones flowing. I know I missed some, but it's getting late for us Olde Pharts (tip of the hat to Eagle for the proper spelling).

Thanks, Rob. I'll see if I can get it to operate.

Power Steering Pump Going Bad?
Keyav8r replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pm your e-mail and I'll send you photos of bad and good harmonic balancers and what a bad one does to the timing cover. -
Does any one have a wiring diagram for a Bazooka sub. There was one behind the passengers seat of my 91 that i thought was connected. When I checked it I found all the wires were cut and tucked under the carpet with only a ground connected. I've taken it out of the truck but would like to hook it up to see if it works.

Only two, maybe selling one.

I want one of those 84 six foot box Comanches. You just don't see them on CL often. -
Starting Trouble After Oil Change
Keyav8r replied to Rebelhunter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your oil pressure is reading at 0 because you removed the sending unit. I'd bet if you put a new one in there she'd start right up. -

Bummer - but, maybe you just saved another member from going through the same hassle.

OK - based on Eagle's point about the Renix knock sensor, I amend my statement to say that most of our trucks don't have high enough compression ratios to require higher octane fuels for normal operation and the ECUs don't have the capability of "modern" engine management systems, other than retarding timing in the event of knock, to make full use of the higher octane rating. Therefore higher octane fuel is, for the most part, a waste of money. There now, that should be sufficiently watered down to be generally acceptable.

The responses have one point in common - don't buy a V-6. Especially for $3500 or even $2500. IF the body is rust-free and straight, drive train is good, maybe $1000 to $1500. -
Interesting idea! Do these states have better investigators or worse politicians? Another thought - are there actually better and worse politicians or are they all equally sleazy?

Well, we did have a governor and the CEO of Healthsouth go to prison. And, possibly a few mayors and council members. Maybe they grade on a scale with a governor having a higher point value and that drove our score up. In this case it's not true that if it weren't for Mississippi we'd be the worst. Heck, we've got a four state cushion between us and them! Still have to believe Illinois should be No. 1 in corruption. They must have paid off the Hong Kong commies!

I don't remember exactly how the back of the cab looks with all the interior trim removed, but there should be some places you could attach a couple of flat bars across the cab between the points where the plastic and carpeted pieces attach under the rear window. If done right, the plastic and carpet pieces could still be used and your fabricated gun rack could be bolted through the trim to the flat bars. You definitely want the rack behind the seats. Mounting it where it can seen is just inviting some lowlife ti bash out a window. Can't say 100% sure this would work but it would only take 15 minutes to remove/replace the trim to see if it could be done
