89 Comanche 2Wd To 4Wd Need Help
Keyav8r replied to 1989 comanche mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't forget to check front and rear axle ratios to match. -
Pull-A-Part Nashville is showing two MJs on the lot. Been there since December so they may be pretty picked over by now.

I'd have to say quality tool. With a name like Indestro Super what else could it be? I'm with 87Warrior - bar would have broken and pain would have folowed.
-
KYMJ - you're almost close enough for me to consider coming for that bed liner. Almost, but not quite close enough. But, since we're talking about it, exactly where in Western KY are you?

To Much Play On Pinion?
Keyav8r replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The pinion shaft should not have any in/out or side to side movement. If it was recently installed, there should be very little slack in rotation. Sounds like a bad install. -
What year? My 88 has the "doughnut" gasket. Not sure about the 91 as I haven't needed to work on the exhaust (yet).

Buying My First Mj Well First Jeep
Keyav8r replied to StephensMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Get the VIN and use the VIN decoder ti determine year, model, etc. the decoder is one of the pinned topics in the DIY Projects section. You'll find lots of useful information on your truck in that section and the Random Information Pictures topics under DIY. And, there are some big kahuna gurus on the forum with mucho MJ mojo who will help you with the problems that WILL arise. Welcome to the joy/misery of MJ ownership. -

Maybe vellum isn't the proper name for the compressed fiber gasket material. We buy it in sheets of various thicknesses and cut gaskets for pump and other equipment repairs. Vellum is what our shop foreman calls it, so I went with what he said. PTFE might work for a timing cover gasket as the cover bolts torque isn't very much but IMHO, I wouldn't use it.

Not sure exactly when it started, but it was two pronged, maybe three pronged. Or maybe even four pronged. Not necessarily in the order listed. Our education system changed course from teaching children the history of our great country and how it is supposed to work and began teaching that it doesn't matter whether you win or lose and that it's more important that everyone feels good about themselves even if they can't pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel. Our elected officials became more concerned with how long they could stay in office, how much power they could grab, how much graft and corruption the could rake in, and just said to hell with their oath to support the Constitution and do what's right for the country. Many of our churches became more concerned with how big they could grow than with teaching and preaching the Word of God and training children and adults to differentiate between right and wrong. Many, if not most, parents abdicated their duty to teach, nurture and discipline their children, deciding it was easier just to be their child's buddy. And that is the recipe for how the once greatest nation on earth goes merrily down the path to being another third-rate banana republic with an inept, megalomanic dictator wannabe exactly in position. I'm officially off my soap box now. No guarantee I won't climb back up later.

PTFE is the generic name for Teflon. Its primary characteristic is resistance to most chemicals. As mentioned, it is easily molded and shaped. The problem is that it tends to not retain its shape under compression. Teflon works best as a gasket if it is confined on all four sides so that it can't "cold flow" from between the flanges. At least, that's my experience with PTFE in the pump industry. Compressed fiber (Vellum - generally green on one side and white on the other) should be a good material for the t-stat housing. I would do some investigation on the Fel-Pro options for the timing cover gasket. I used Fel-Pro on the valve cover and oil pan on my 88 with good results.

I don't see a link to Craigslist in either post. The link under your name doesn't take me to Craigslist.

Structural engineer to determine if it would be safe to remove the rest of the cars and how much more of the building(s) may collapse. Geologist to determine why the sinkhole developed and if it will continue to grow.

Don't those U-Haul trailers pull nice? Brought my 91 home from Pensacola, FL on one. Price wasn't too bad either. That's not a bad looking truck as is. Have fun making it the truck you want it to be.

Had a similar experience with a BMW 318 we bought for my bride some years back. It had previously been leased and still had some original new car warranty time and miles left. Blew a head gasket and took it to the dealer (knew one of the service advisors). Turned out the tab was over $1200 but we paid $0 because there was a little under 500 miles and less than a month left on the warranty.

Welcome to the Comanche Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Support Group. You may have already distinguished yourself by qualifying for the longest sentence award competition. But, that's the way it is with these trucks - you get hooked and can't quit thinking/talking/googling about them. I bought a 88 Pioneer 2WD about 2 years back and a 91 Eliminator 4WD about 8 months back. 88 is still in process - work is really cramping my MJ style. I'd retire and work on/play with them continuously if I didn't also have this food and shelter addiction.

Seahawks did pretty much the same to the Broncos.

Word of advice - if you find a Comanche in a JY with even one half way decent (not broken is the main thing) taillight - BUY IT! Even if you don't personally need it right now! Even if you already have spares. They're not making any more of them and there will always be someone on this forum, like you, looking for a replacement! Forget the whales and the trees and all that other stuff. We've got to save MJ taillights!

During our recent snow event/adventure I noticed the tach needle rhythmically bouncing between 0 and around 500 rpm while driving at low speeds (20 mph or less, 1st and 2nd gears). Switched back into 2WD and it operates normally. Did not notice if it was bouncing at higher speeds in 4WD because I was watching the road. Any ideas? 91 MJ, AX15, not sure which transfer case (does anyone have a guide for identifying the different transfer cases?).

My problem would be trying to find where I put the darn things the next time I had to change a pan gasket. I'd rather have a friend who bought a set so I could borrow them.

AFAIK - the doors may fit if you relocate the striker/latch plate. I understand that is necessary on doors after the mid 90s. The Cherokee seats will not drop in but can be made to fit if you fabricate some brackets to adapt them to the Comanche seatbolt pattern. Console probably can be made to fit. You don't say what transmission is in the Cherokee but I would guess it has an automatic. If it does, that complicates the drive train swap as you would need the transmission computer and wiring harness, trans cooler in the radiator and the associated lines. If you did swap drivetrains you would have to use both of the Cherokee axles and the rear axle would require work to relocate the spring brackets. Drive shafts would probably need to modified because of different wheelbases (I think). Don't have clue on the fuse box issue as I've never paid any attention to where it's located or what it looks like on a 2000. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong on the above.

Front Turn Signals Don't Work...
Keyav8r replied to brendan88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check the sockets to make sure you have power. They're notorious for corrosion and bad grounds. You can replace them with Ford sockets (someone correct this if I'm wrong) from the Help section at Advance, Autozone, O'Rielly's, etc. The harness you got with the header panel could be bad. -
8 F at 5:30 AM today in scenic Trussville, AL. Up around 20 F at noon. Natural gas heat, no problem. That is, no problem other than the psychological impact of "freaking 8 degrees in Alabama!" Us ole fat Southern boys don't like this stuff! I'm thinking about moving to South Florida and becoming a Noles fan. (Just a little dig at all my AU friends.)
