Throttle Body Spacers?
Keyav8r replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Regardless of whether the spacer increases the intake charge speed and/or creates a vortex it will have no effect on the air/fuel mix as the fuel is injected at the intake valve port. The larger throttle body (60 mm) should have a performance improvement as it will allow more air flow resulting in a more efficient filling of the combustion chamber. It may be necessary to change to higher flow injectors to get the most benefit from the larger throttle body. Don't know if there is any way to "recalibrate" the ECU to compensate for the higher air flow rate so that it injects the correct amount of fuel to achieve the proper air to fuel ratio. -
I believe I would have to had it moved and returned several times just to ramp up the nazis blood pressure. Park it nearer to the street each time. Better yet, have it get hung up in front of the nazis lawn.

Eagle - mixed emotions about the open heart surgery - sorry you had to have it but glad your recovery seems to be on track. As has been said, take heed of and comply with your doctor(s) instructions. I look forward to seeing your posts on the forum for quite a while longer. Just think of the battle for the title of "Self-appointed President For Life of the International MJ Preservation Society". It could rival a south american government coup in its intensity. Get well, my fellow Olde Phart.

They're all poisonous. The only good snake is a dead snake. Clarification: this post relates to legless reptiles and should not in any way be construed as a comment about politicians or lawyers.

Global warming/cooling is a cyclic phenomenon that, according to historical geologists, has occurred more than once since the planet was formed. Remember the "Ice Age"? Which was presumably preceded by and followed by a warmer climate (had to be warmer before and after for there to be a noticeable contrast). I don't believe there were too many factories, power plants or automobiles spewing out CO2 (or whatever gases are currently being blamed), as there weren't too many, if any, tool using humans around in those days to build them. Maybe it was all the herbivore animals emitting methane digestive gases? That's my humble, and not politically correct, opinion. You may choose to disagree and attempt to refute my opinion, but at my rather advanced age I'm pretty damn set in way of thinking so you'd be wasting your time to try to reason (argue) me around to your point.

I bet the lawn nazi s#%t a brick when you were stripping that XJ down in the driveway.

I meant to add that our trucks don't have high enough compression ratios to need higher octane fuels and the ECUs don't have the capability of "modern" engine management systems, so higher octane fuel is a waste of money.
-
On some later model vehicles with higher tech engine controls, you can operate on either the lower octane "regular" unleaded or higher octane "premium" unleaded. The engine management system will adjust timing, etc to run on the regular fuel without knock. However, with the premium fuel, there is a noticeable performance improvement. I experienced this in my better half's 99 Lexus and my buddy says his wife's later model Lexus did the same. I would run regular most of the time but put in a full tank of premium occasionally. However, the BMW Z4 she drove for a couple of years refused to even consider lowering itself to burn regular. It was so much fun to drive I didn't mind the extra fuel cost.

Where are you located in AL?

Unfortunately these positions are often filled by people who have nothing else going on in their lives and feel it is their destiny to be a petty tyrant in the enforcement of homeowner association covenants. They seldom, if ever, consult anyone else in the association prior to issuing one of their edicts from their throne (unless it may be some of their like-minded toadies who are convinced it is their responsibility to keep the "offenders" in line). People like this are also the self-appointed traffic monitors who drive 2 MPH below the speed limit in the left lane to prevent speeding by others. Self-important people with small minds.

They'll run out of tests when you run out of insurance coverage and/or money. When they ran your Lab Tests did they use a chocolate Lab or one of the redder colored ones? I've heard the chocolate Lab Tests are more comprehensive. They can spot things like athlete's foot, jock itch, poison ivy/oak/sumac, psoriasis, dry skin, hives, liver spots, and ingrown toenails that other tests completely miss.

I'm in central AL, near Birmingham, so I'm a little out of your couple of hours range.

Want To Put 23.5 Gal In My 87 Mj Long Bed
Keyav8r replied to Jeepstertracey's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dang! I really wanted to know how they got that additional 5.5 gallons into the same volume. Thought they might have solved that whole inter-dimensional thing and were storing the extra gas in an alternate universe. Guess I'll have to wait for the guys and gals at Ca-Tech or MIT to work the wormhole theory out. -
Front Brake Caliper Mount
Keyav8r replied to ajohnson928's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ajohnson - I'm assuming you're working on your 2WD MJ. Looking at my 88 2WD, the bracket the the caliper mounts on and the pads ride on is bolted on with two torx head bolts. The caliper slide pins are allen socket head. You should be able to remove the bracket with the caliper still mounted and may be able to drill the slider pins out with the whole thing off the truck. If not, pull a set of brackets from a 2WD XJ or MJ at the JY and buy some rebuilt calipers. PM me an e-mail and I'll send you a photo of the bracket and caliper. -
I say a prayer for all of our military and public safety personnel and their families every day. These folks go out every day knowing they may not come back. I can't remember the exact wording, but it has been said, and is 100% truth, that we sleep soundly because rough men stand watch over us.

Front Brake Caliper Mount
Keyav8r replied to ajohnson928's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ah, yes. Another believer in the "If It Don't Fit, Get A Bigger Hammer" theory. As an old machinist I can testify that Incommando's advice can work pretty well. Just wear a glove on the hand holding the other end of the allen wrench (don't ask - personal experience). And make sure you drive it in as far as you can before trying to turn it. I'll go down later and look at my 2WD truck to see if there's another way to do it. BTW - be careful when changing the hoses. Get a good grip on the fitting at the end of the steel line so that you don't twist the line. The little bracket there will only take so much torque before it bends and lets the line twist. PB Blaster is your friend - spray liberally and often before you start the project. -
It shouldn't be a problem to tie LEDs into the standard interior lighting system. Every XJ and MJ I've seen in JYs had the sockets for the underdash lights and a lot of them had the lights and pigtail (some of which now reside in my parts bin). You can simply clip the lights off the pigtails and connect the LEDs. I think you could run some wires under the carpet or mat to the back of the cab for more LEDs back there, if you didn't want to pull the B pillars to access the wiring for those lights. I've installed the standard underdash lights in both of my MJs and replaced the B pillar lights in the 91 with the Eurametec lights. Good light level in the cab. May add a rearview mirror with the courtesy lights in the future if I can do so without puling the headliner.

ftpiercecracker1 - you can change that status, brother. There's someone out there for you, just gotta find them. Don - Yes, her mobility is normally very good. She just missed a step between levels in the audio/visual booth where I was working. I've stumbled down it before myself. Just one of those moments of inattention at a busy time. The knees and hip eliminated the associated pain and gave her back the ability to do normal activities around the house, go shopping, take long walks on the beach, etc. We're hoping, based on the neuro's diagnosis, that this will just be a bump in the road. Thanks to all for the kind thoughts and a prayer for a complete recovery will be greatly appreciated.

This morning at church my bride missed a step and fell, striking her head against a door. She has arthritis in her neck (and most other joints) and had surgery two years ago to prevent permanent nerve damage and relieve severe nerve pain. This is one tough lady who has been through two knee replacements (both at the same time), a hip replacement, and 2 months ago a shoulder replacement. After a paramedic transport to the ER and a cat scan, the neurosurgeon sent us home with a fractured vertebra and a hard cervical collar. Follow-up visit in 2 weeks to see what Step 2 is. I don't know about other people's relationships but I can tell you that having been in love with this woman for over 50 years and seeing her fall as she did, I was afraid that the most important part of my life was over. I thank God for giving us more time together in this life. If you have a woman you love make sure she knows it. If you don't have a woman you love, you're missing the best part of life.

There's less than a full nut engagement. Looks like just enough to fit an undersized cotter pin. Possibly safe, but I'll pass on using that method.

I'd say everything between " .... words of encouragement." and "Can anyone guess ...." pretty well fell into the bovine excrement category. Glad to see you still got most of your marbles, Jim. Don - Forsooth, sir. Pray thee forgive thy humble servant for his unjust usage of the King's English. Gadzooks, I shall not err again!
-
Gotta say Amen to that, Don! I was once normal myself, but fortunately I got over it. Hey, Jim - how about checking in with an update? You've got the rest of us old farts wondering.

Uh-Oh, I Think The Harmonic Balancer Is Bad...
Keyav8r replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Go ahead and pull the timing cover and check your timing chain slack. All it will cost is a timing cover gasket set and will either give you peace of mind about the condition or, if you have a lot of slack and replace the chain and sprockets, give you improved performance. It's not that much more work once you have the HB off. -
As NHMJXJ said, I'm glad we're hearing about this from you instead of a third party. Listen to the MDs and take care of yourself! I'll say a prayer for you tonight.

Quadratec Cherokee mats. Fit pretty well, but not perfectly.
