I have these units I bought them 2 years ago to do my SOA My thought was they are long 7" long and would support the springs better and should reduce/control spring wrap, also I can re-use when I upgraded my axel And at the time I did look at the stock type and they are just too small/short for the SOA (my opinion) so I like to try cool stuff and these looked cool so I bought them used them on the 35 until recently I bought a factory MJ AMC20 axel and re-used the brackets ,had to grind on them a bit for clearance as the 20 tubes are a bit larger This time I did weld them on as I don’t think I will need to change axels again. Besides that they don’t lock into the AMC20 saddles So if you don’t have a welder or don’t want to fab up your own, these are very well made and will help reduce spring wrap due to there length and they are very simple to install they actually lock into the D35 perch to provide a solid non welded system. And you can re-use them when you do upgrade your axel (with some grinding for tube size) Her are some pics,it was dark so I had to “brighten” them so if they look bad ,sorry

Thats funny -
You know you can just tap into the vacuum line under the hood (line coming from vacuum canister) If you want it engaged all the time and you won’t have to make any modifications to the unit If having it engaged all the time is what you want

4cyl, 2x4 to 6cyl, 4x4
comanchedude replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have done a similar swap your about to do and it is not that bad I took a 1989 4cy 2wd 5sp Comanche and swapped in a 4.0, auto, 4wd system into it from a 1987 Comanche 4x4 that was rusted out (frame was shot) Now you are using a XJ for the donor so I would think all the hard parts are the same but the wiring could be different? First you need to pull all the items below from the donor truck with the 4.0 1) Wire harness from “under the hood “that entails taking the complete harness from the front side of the firewall that’s it NOTING FROM INSIDE THE CAB (again this is on a Comanche) (except if auto tranny you will need the tranny computer but that will be part of the harness under the hood anyway) the wire harness basically bolts to the big connector on the driver side and wraps around the front of the truck around to the passenger fender and back to the center of the fire wall 2) After you remove the 4.0 engine with the tranny and transfer case “if 4x4’ you also need the engine mounts and (very important) you must also take the frame horns, that is the brackets bolted to the frame the engine mounts bold to. 3) You will need the 4.0 radiator (the front of the 4cy truck will be the same but you need to remove the spacer they bolt in for the 4cy radiator) it just unbolts 4) You need the 4.0 fuel pump (and tank if your 4cy was a carbureted version) 5) You will need to cut the 4.0 fuel supply hoses just before they mate to the steel lines at the frame of the truck, you need to splice these onto the truck as the 4cy hoses have different ends and are to short 6) You will need to use the 4.0 rear drive shaft as well 7) Shifters for the auto floor if needed and transfer case shifter Things like the cross member are the same also think about stuff like do you have tilt wheel if not, does the 4.0 truck if so swap that also. You can swap a standard gauge cluster with one with gauges on these years just by swapping the cluster And other things You have to install the auto shifter and transfer case shifter ect.. Now there are other incidentals that will be obvious that is not on this list, but this is the “must have” parts If you have some experience in engine swaps you will find this is not a big deal and I was able to do the complete swap in a week end with 2 helpers If you have any questions just send me email I can guide you through any part of the swap Now if you are not going to use the 4.0 driveline (tranny back) then you may need to work that part out as I used the driveline that came with the 4.0 Again I can help answer questions that are related to the swap and would be more than happy to do so _________________ 1989 Comanche 4.0 auto -

comanchedude replied to bigshrimpin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can buy them online at Rock Auto at a good price $7.92 each I bought a set from them and they are good quality oem replacement that should last a few years and provide good isolation. They run $20.00 a set w/shipping p/n 2572 http://info.rockauto.com/Anchor/Detail.html?2572.jpg -
I vote for the AMC engine, thats what I would like to see in a Comanche as that was still an AMC/Jeep if you can afford to but if you want the cheap way, the Chevy is the only other choice :(

Fuel Pump and tank wrong???
comanchedude replied to GummiBeer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I am glad to see I was not the only person to run into this deal I bought a new tank and used the original sender till it started to leak from rust so I bought one from a fellow club member and it would not seat just as you describe What I notice is the original has a longer "arm" about an inch or so and sets the pump and sender out in the middle of the tank, now the pump I got used had a short arm and would hit the baffle? (There are different senders that’s a fact) So I had to get creative and fix my original unit and lucky me I was able to make a long term repair to the unit and reuse it I would like to know why there are different length senders but the same replacement tanks? -

I agree with everything said. But 'Stone Cold Goldberg' made me stop watching Trucks! every weekend. So technically it WAS the content that made me stop. Funny I stopped watching as well; Stacy was /is a hard act to follow I am guilty of missing the spelling error as well, but I did write in about the statement on page 25 "10 hot mills" They stated and I quote (Jeep 4.0L introduced in the XJ in 1988 and was designed after Chrysler's 2.5L four-cylinder) Yeah Right...that’s a bigger mistake that misspelled words, that is just inexcusable.
