(In the few months I spent driving a wrecker, I saw more stupidity than in the rest of my life lol.) Now for some reason I just can’t stop laughing :)

87manche I have 4.10 gears in my 4x4 and currently run 31 inch trxus tires with a 4.0, AW4 and I can say you will have tons of power and torque. (I had the 3.07 gears and the difference feels like I swapped in a V8 now) I think you can run up to 33inch tires and still have acceptable power with 4.10 gears

Well Your in luck I have done that exact swap your about to do and it is not that bad And it is without a doubt the best upgade path I took a 4cy 2wd 5sp Comanche and swapped in a 4.0, auto, 4wd system into it First you need to pull all the items below from the 89 truck with the 4.0 1) Wire harness from “under the hood “that entails taking the complete harness from the front side of the firewall that’s it NOTING FROM INSIDE THECAB (except if auto tranny you will need the tranny computer but that will be part of the harness under the hood anyway) the wire harness basically bolts to the big connector on the driver side and wraps around the front of the truck around to the passenger fender and back to the center of the fire wall 2) After you remove the 4.0 engine with the tranny and transfer case “if 4x4’ you also need the engine mounts and (very important) you must also take the frame horns, that is the brackets bolted to the frame the engine mounts bold to. 3) You will need the 4.0 radiator (the front of the 88 4cy truck will be the same but you need to remove the spacer they bolt in for the 4cy radiator) it just unbolts 4) You need the 4.0 fuel pump (and tank if your 4cy was a carbureted version) 5) You will need to cut the 4.0 fuel supply hoses just before they mate to the steel lines at the frame of the truck, you need to splice these onto the 88 truck as the 4cy hoses have different ends and are to short 6) You will need to use the 4.0 rear drive shaft as well Things like the cross member are the same also think about stuff like do you have tilt wheel if not, does the 4.0 truck if so swap that also. You can swap a standard gauge cluster with one with gauges on these years just by swapping the cluster And other things Now I could have forgot to list something but this is the “must have” parts If you have some experience in engine swaps you will find this is not a big deal and I was able to do the complete swap in a week end with 2 helpers If you have any questions just send me email I can guide you through any part of the swap Now if you are not going to use the 4.0 driveline (tranny back) then you may need to work that part out as I used the driveline that came with the 4.0 Again I can help answer any questions that are related to the swap and would be more than happy to do so

Pete Thanks for the Video it turned out good The cd I could not find a way to view -
Couple things come to mind If these are alloy wheels you may need the type of lug nuts that go down into the wheel? If these are steel wheels then my guess is they are not fitting over the center of the hub and that could be the problem? You would not need longer wheel studs! You should measure the back space of the wheel and see if it is less than the stock wheel if it is not less then just use your stock wheel until you’re ready to buy new wheels that have a 4inch back space

can't wait to check out the videos :P -
well: my recomendation was not to start some debate ,it was to offer a soulution I don't know why some feel its importaint to start a debate in this type of fourm? Actually is contains "CSL" COPPER ,SILVER ,LEAD (if you know about this product you would know this) graphite is not in this product and would not help seal rings as graphite is just a lubricant it does not cause any problems with my Comanche oil gauge or any other viecical I have used it on also it will not clog anything as the particals are smaller than the media can trap. As for you link it does not address this type of product. (more directed at ptfe) I simply suggested a product that has worked for me to improve the compression on old engines and help the blowby. I don't claim to be an expert on the subject of oil additives and would not take some web site as the ""word" on the subject either.

I found a wholesaler that has them for $55 a pop. So 110 to do both sides isn't bad Let me know the name of this wholesaler as that is a super deal
-
All the other suggestions outstanding, You can try a product that works well it is called "engine restore" and it will help seal up the piston rings due to wear try it and you should feel an improvment in power and a reduction in cylinder blowby,I have used it for years on older engines and have noticed the improvment everytime In normal driving, friction and wear cut scratches in the metal surfaces inside every car's engine. This causes compression and power loss and increases oil consumption as cars get older. Restore Engine Restorer fills these scratches and improves the seal between piston rings and cylinder walls. This means better compression and more balanced compression across all cylinders. Independent road tests prove Restore brings back power to near original levels

Scary noise coming from my 4.0L
comanchedude replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure if the sound is the same but I have similar sound when a couple of the rocker arms were getting cockeyed (crooked) due to wear I took them off cleaned them put them back on (field repair) They worked fine for the rest of the day next morning they made that sound again and one went completely 90deg and was off the valve So I replaced all the rockers pushrods and everything was good About a month later i replaced all the lifters as they were noisy Now the engine is very quiet and valve train is very tight So maybe check the play between the rockers and valves if it is very sloppy that could be the problem Just a thought My engine has 188 and the sound is basically what you described -
