  1. Find out what it out of, if its from Comanche its a great axel and the tubes don't bend easy like some would like you to think ,all the trash talk is based on the old CJ axels. The AMC 20 that came in the Comanche is a much stonger unit with the heavy tubes ect... If its out of a FSJ it will be the same HD unit that the Comanche used but the width will be diffrent. The only "real" drawback is you don't have an easy cheap source for aftermarket axel shafts like the more popular units..but you can get stock units from the salvage yard. and unless your running tires larger than 35" and locked you will most likely never break one
  2. I agree with 87manche its truck tough!
  3. Well If you are building a truck for mostly street driving and very mild trails and you have 300.00 to spend on the Rustys springs I think that’s a good way to go Now if you plan to wheel your MJ fairly often and on more aggressive trails. And if you don’t have 300 Bucks to spend, SOA is the way to go and the Rocky Road system does work perfectly if you really can’t get anyone to weld the perches. Although you still have the shock plate below the axel but you do have about 3" more ground clearance below the mounts and later you can use u-bolts and relocate the shock mount, and you save about 200.bucks Or get the small std perch and torque the u-bolts and drive to a welder and have them welded ,but that may cost about the same as the no weld units after paying to have it welded “around here anyway”
  4. It would be to much work in my opinion to make it work, for no gain in any aspect over the AW4 in a Jeep 727 take a beating a hell of a lot better than an AW4...... The 727 is one of the best autos Chrysler ever put out I have seen no trend of AW4 tranny’s that have not ran as long or longer under just as much abuse as a 727. I have run and rebuilt 727 tranny’s in AMC vehicles and it is a good trans .but I would use the AW4 even in an older Jeep if possible due to the overdrive and lock up The AW4 has a much better record in the Jeep community for reliability and durability then a 727 has, and Jeep chose this trans for the Jeep and it has performed outstanding I wouldn’t see any reason to try to use the 727 over an AW4 in an 87 and newer Jeep Unless you just want to try something different and that’s cool. That’s of course my Opinion
  5. If you want to put a 4.0L in a Comanche that had a 4cy you must change the frame engine mount horns "thats what I call them" the frame horns are diffrent and look diffrent as noted by 1999MJ the rubber mounts (motor mounts) are diffrent but could be used, the 4cy is a smaller rubber mount but will bolt in the same. So you need the frame horns "brackets" whatever you want to call them from a 4.0L truck
  6. That’s a 2wd.... no comparison
  7. Here is a deal if you get it close to the current price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-Jee ... dZViewItem
  8. YOU ROCK! I just love the progression of getting your MJ then wheeling pics That’s great, I did the same thing with my first MJ had it off road in day of its purchase We can see you were having a blast off-road and that’s the part about wheeling we all dig Your Comanche looks great ,take care of it...you really would be hard pressed to replace the bed..so watch it on the trail as stuff tends to jump out and dent it up Also I run duel electric fans; here is my setup very simple Thanks for sharing
  9. Hey: Well done, your Comanche looks great
  10. I have the same brace and it fit no prob, also the bar does go between the clamps that’s how it fit on my MJ It really does a good job of stiffening up the steering system
  11. Here are some vids from Haspin few weeks ago http://youtube.com/watch?v=RoPbxcb1MHw http://youtube.com/watch?v=bj5PiUdJKfI
  12. This meet is still Aug 11th correct? I plan to run Saturday and maybe Sundays as well also i will have a buddy with and XJ wheeling also So what is the count for the Comancheclub who is going to be there?
  13. summer I run 10w30 winter 5w30 that will work fine and is what the factory would recomend. if your engine burns oil like a qt every fill up then 20w50 or a high mile oil will help in the summer winter stay with 10w30 of if you get temps below 10deg use 5w30
  14. I have the front locked only on my Comanche and I have not been motivated as of yet to lock the rear, thats how well the front locker works for me it is outstanding and you will at some point break the d35 if locked,I have seen them go on the trail often
  15. Cool what is the cost ? I will plan to make the trip as I have wanted to run that area
  16. Another option is to use these units, I did and they are holding up very well What I did was use a 1/4" drill bit ran that around between the rubber and the steel sleeve that effectively cuts the old rubber bushing out and then you drive these new units in and reassemble. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Dan ... 19. Hello I divorced in 1993 and fought for cutody of my three kids and although it was not as hard as expected,it was at the time of the divorce and cost me a couple grand for the attorney fees. Now as I take it your seeking custody after some amount of time since your separation from you ex ? One thing your will be faced with is the courts usually need a reason to change the custody status of the children after they have been in the custody of one parent for any length of time. If the court can’t find a good reason to change the placement of a child they will normally not make any change.(no matter how much you spend) So I would think it could be somewhat difficult to get custody changed unless their mother is shown to be un-fit or the best interest of the children is not currently being met by the mother having custody. Now none of this matters much if you get the ex to agree ,then it would cost almost nothing. But all your questions can be answered by talking to a lawyer and that is usually free for a consultation.
  20. Count me in for the 18th of August.. I may bring a couple friends..(they don't have MJs though)
  21. I read it was closed.. Yes i would like to run there sometime this summer post up if you set a date I will be running Blk Mtn end of this month ,but would be ready late June or after
  22. According to the TNT web site they do have a MJ package you just need to call them and provide some info on drivetrain. Also Rock krawler may offer a kit,any kit you buy will need you to do a rear axel spring over conversion so you just need to be sure there system for the front is MJ tested Call around and ask a few companies, as some will have updated equipment that is not listed
  23. Yes just run a vacuum line straight to the unit, very simple and free, unless you have a bad vacuum motor :(
  24. I don’t have them nor would I use them on the trail ,have seen them on the trail and I did see a guy get stuck last year at badlands at the end of the orange trail he climbed the concrete "rock" at the trail exit and one bracket got stuck he had to be pulled off.. He told me they do catch stuff and he was planning to replace them soon with long arms If you were going to buy adjustable arms and brackets I would compare cost with the RK long arm system it’s just over $500.00 You know if you’re buying upper and lower arms and drop brackets you would spend that or more, for new stuff that is But they will catch stuff on the trail, its simple anything that hangs down below the frame will get in the way at some point (and they do hang down) They are not the best investment for the long term but they are the best option for the short term or street rigs to keep the factory arm angle
