Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. Mitch - I think the truck will go with me to Florida in the Winter, so I can avoid the snow/salt in MA. No more wife . . . so I can do whatever I want now :)
  2. Mileage was 12 - 14 depending on hills. Boat, motor, and trailer weigh just over 3500lbs.
  3. Just finished towing my boat 3466 miles Cross Country!! . . . CA to MA. The truck handled like a champ!! Under 4 days at 55 - 60mph.
  4. Mitch - start with the free stuff . . . Cleaning the throttle body, check vacuum lines, read the codes, etc. I think the real problem besides the dirty fuel was the injectors and the vacuum leaks. Honestly they were simple to swap out . . . and I paid $50 for 8 rebuilt ones.
  5. Yup . . . that's how I was reading them.
  6. Doh - I'm an idiot :) Turns out that I accidentally dropped two of the spark plugs before I put them back in for the last time. I didn't notice . . . but it must have landed arse end down . . . there was no gap at all on plug #1. regapped the plug back to .35 . . . no more code 14????? The truck purrs like a kitten!!! with the new design III ford injectors, cap, rotor, o2 sensor, and total fuel system douche. I step on the gas and I can light up the tires . . . wohoooo!! Thanks everyone for all your help . . . I learned a ton working through this "problem". **************************************************** Mitch - I had multiple problems going on with the truck. Dirty Throttle body, Vacuum Leaks everywhere, Dirty Injectors, Torn filter bag (in fuel tank), old cap and rotor, old plugs.
  7. Doh - I'm an idiot :) Turns out that I accidentally dropped two of the spark plugs before I put them back in for the last time. 8. Thanks for that reply. Here's my confusion . . . cause the voltage checks out according to my multimeter but it still throws error code 14 right away (after I reset the battery). Hmmmmm . . . ******************************************************** What does it do? Compares ambient barometric pressure during start-up (cranking) to engine load while engine is running. The ECU computes that information and adjusts the air-fuel mixture accordingly. ********************************************************* would engine load would be coolant temp sensor data??? what feeds the ecu barametric pressure?
  9. All right I got there . . . 4.88 Volts ignition on. Engine started, warmed up at idle . . . output hovers at 1.66volts (down to 1.52 . . . up to 1.88). Is it safe to say now that the MAP sensor is behaving properly?
  10. I think this is the last of my problems :) at least I sure hope it is. I'm getting an error . . . Code 14 about voltage being too low or high for the MAP sensor . . . does this mean the MAP sensor needs to be replaced or that some input signal to the MAP sensor is off? is there anyway to troubleshoot this problem without buying a new MAP sensor?
  11. Just read how to get the codes . . . I'm getting code 14 . . Code 14-MAP voltage too high or too low Any ideas on how to fix?
  12. Just installed the Design III injectors . . . What a difference clean injectors make . . . it runs like a scalded cat now.
  13. From what I read on most sites . . . looks like Design II and Design III Bosch injectors are interchangeable and that the 19lb injectors will work well for the unmodified 4.0L HO jeeps. Thanks everyone for your help. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Fue ... grades.htm http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/Injector_SetsJEEP.asp Got a set of 8 for under $100. Hopefully this does the trick.
  14. THanks Lead!! That helps a LOT!! I found this too while searching. http://forums.off-road.com/jeep-mid-siz ... ngine.html
  15. I don't really know what I'm talking about . . . but I did some searching on this site and around online . . . Both appear to be 19# bosch injectors for ford . . . design II or design III. The HO injector spec is 22lb??, but there was talk about 19# injectors running better in 4.0L motors?? I'm just trying to make head of tails of this before I drop more money on the truck. If I can save $40+ and get them locally . . . it's worth a post.
