  1. Are you F**king kidding me?! You even have a remote tire inflation/deflation system??? That is SICK! and whats that other CAD drawing of, the one thats not obviously a bumper? FPC
  2. Well done PFC, well done. I'm not the biggest fan of camo paint jobs, but your looks pretty good, if i do say so myself. FPC
  3. OP, if you would please, take several pictures of your steering setup. 4.5" is a good bit of lift and MJs are notorious for having driving/death wobble related issues after lifting so it may have something to do with your steering geometry. Have no fear, for we shall prevail! :USAflag: FPC
  4. Awesome, awesome videos my man, you live quite the life. Beautiful truck and camper too by the way.
  5. Nicely done, I too just recently installed WJ arms. Mine came from a JY as well, but i can't really tell much of a difference. For good or for bad. I know my original control arms needed replacing and i was rubbing. The only benefit i can attest to now is that my tires no longer rub, as you have experienced for yourself. At some point i will order up some new WJ arms, but for now these will have to do. Regardless, i still think they are a very worthy mod that all MJ owners should look into. FPC.
  6. a few examples of tire carriers. Member on CC. Another Member Hitch mounted version, don't know if this one is available for purchase. http://image.fourwheeler.com/f/62970304+w600+re0/jeep-comanche-with-hitch-mounted-tire-carrier And last but certainly not least, yours truly. . .
  7. You can but i wouldnt, because like you said it makes disassembly/reassembly 10x easier and there will come a time where you will need to do this. If you want you can actually buy an entirely new weather pack plug to replace the original, but that requires cutting the old plug out entirely. http://pcsconnectors.com/12015799.aspx
  8. Mine are from a JY too, but i tried to find a good pair. Compared to my originals the WJs are brand new fresh out of the box. EDIT: it had the vibes before any of the aforementioned modifications. I wish. The only thing i have on is a 1.5in spacer to help out the horrendously sagging coils. Other than that it is stock ride height. Even though i do wheel her occasionally, I have never even come remotely close to going airborn. I try to take it easy on the old girl as she is my DD, but i get out once in a while and sling a little mud, maybe get stuck once in a while, but i try my darndest not to thrash her.
  9. Here we go gents, I've got 3 problems that should be fairly simple to resolve, but we all know how that goes. :shake: Issue #1: I have swapped in a V8 ZJ sway bar and links, WJ lower control arms, and new shocks, but i still have an excessive amount of body roll as well as very poor on road manners. Just driving down the road the steering feels all over the place, made expontentially worse if the road is waffly/uneven/ has dips or pockets. I have also swapped in a ZJ steering box (quick steer ratio :rock on: ) BUT, it has a definate dead spot which, again, adds to the instablity. What i think the problem is. . . . Sway bar links and bushings are shot, and the steering box needs to be rebuilt. I was also contebplating adding a second bracket so that the bottom portion of the sway bar link could be captured on both sides. Issue #2: At low speeds and take off, the truck will sometimes shake roughly and get worse with the amount of power applied (standard transmission) but will stop every time just after take off. It likes to do it particuarly bad when taking off and turning at the same time. It does something similar in 4wd as well. Usually when there is lots of wheel spin and i am turing fairly sharp. The shaking in 4wd is VERY rough and forces me to let off on the gas and/or straighten the wheel. However, I do not think the two issues are related. What i think the problem is. . . . . . I believe the problem i have while driving under normal circumstances is my pilot bearing. It is either worn out, or no longer firmly pressed into the crankshaft, allowing the shaft of the transmission to wobble around (shaking) until it self centers (at 5mph) (physics and all that) The problem i have while in 4wd, i do not have any ideas. My Universal joints (drive shaft and axle shaft) are in good condition and my wheel bearings are brand new Timkens. Issue #3: At speeds greater than 65mph the truck has an annoying shake/vibration. At 55/60mph its smooth as glass. Upper and lower Ball joints (XRF) and Wheel bearings (Timken) are brand new, installed last week. Track bar has less than 1k miles on it, all steering components are new (less than 1k miles), draglink, tie rod, and all TREs. As stated previously, i have JY WJ control arms, V8 ZJ sway bar, and ZJ steering box. Its not a severe shaking, as i was doing 80mph the other day, its just annoying as hell. What i think the problem is. . . . . I considered getting the tires balanced, but i have learned that tire balance only really comes into play at 55mph, which i have no problems running. I still have the factory aluminum rims, the ones with the fake looking bead lock (10 hole) and it was discovered that 2 of them were warped. I swapped them out for JY ones and doing so took away 80% of my original shaking. I am at a loss as to what my next move should be, new rims, tire balance, or new track bar maybe? :hmm: FPC.
  10. 2. There arent many premanufactured bumpers specific to MJs and even fewer tire carriers. As a matter of fact i think there aren't any (tire carriers), I have one as do a few others here on CC, but thats only because we built our own. JCR has some VERY nice DIY bumpers http://www.jcroffroad.com/category/MJB.html 3. Rear windows of any kind can be difficult to get a hold of. Here is just one that is available http://www.glasswarepro.com/2221482-item-EDV700BT-CRL-Duo-Vent-Four-Panel-Slider-with-Dark-Gray-Glass-for-1986-1992-Jeep-Comanche.aspx?o=special#-2221482 4. "new steering" is a pretty broad phrase, just what do you mean by that? IF you MJ is a 4x4, there is a good chance the noise is from worn out universal joints. 5. WTF is the "wilderness"? 6. Yes, but they are all very similar, as in they are all different slotted variations. To use the newer style XJ grill you have to swap the nose/front clip There is one other front clip you can swap on and that is the XJ Wagoneer front clip swap. They are exceptionally hard to find, but also exceptionally cool. (That being said i have one on mine, :D ) (The other) 6. Remove them, wrap with masking/painters tape, paint. OR just don't, because you will just rub the paint off putting them back on, ORR buy every nut and bolt in black oxide. Hope at least some of this was helpful. ;)
  11. 3/8 x 18 NPT (national pipe thread) This is what i use to control my dual electrics http://rodneydickman.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=234
  12. This would be very helpful OP. This should be a requirement for all Renix owners, seriously. OP, if your truck is either an 1987,88,or 90 you should really REALLY take the time and do the procedures described in the link. Don't forget 89!! O.M.G. Cruiser, how did i miss that!

  14. Whilst bumbling around Lowes the other day i came upon one of these. Its a pipe boot for chimney pipe or something like that. The metal rim around the bottom is flexible, but holds its shape very well. And the rubber cone is highly flexible as well, but remains upright like in the picture. Call me a redneck, but i think it would work great in a pinch. I will be trying it for myself pretty soon as a matter of fact. I have a center console with shifter boot and all, i'm just to lazy to put all that crap back in. Plus there is no carpeting in my truck so it would look kinda funny.
  15. It is with great displeasure that i must inform all of you that this friday's meet has been postponed until further notice. I have had aboslutely no time to prepare the place and am having an exceptionally hectic week. I have been checking the forecast since last week and it would appear the weather is against us as well. Friday's high is 50*, low 28*/25* WITH a 40% chance of rain. Again the Jeep/CC member bonfire meet this friday (2-28-14) HAS BEEN POSTPONED. With any luck i will have a new day and time picked out for the following month. I apologize for any disappointment, Also, i broke my phone last night so I will not be able to communicate (text/call) with anybody until further notice. If you have any questions please PM me. So as to be better prepared for our eventual meet, please send me a PM if you plan on attending so i can get a rough figure of how many people will be coming, also include any friends you intend on bringing. Thanks fellas
  16. You won't know what kind of lift/tires you will need to accommodate your wheeling style until you actually get out and wheel. When you do the 4wd swap, replace the front coil springs with Moog V8 ZJ coils and the truck will look lifted. Agreed 110%, putting a lift or off road tires of any kind on a 2wd truck is like tits on a bar hog.
  17. Yup, already saw that one. The reason for the cost difference is the more expensive one includes a tube of fancy 'liquid copper' permatex sealant. and the rupper/cork thing refers to the two different gaskets that make up the kit. The actual timing cover gasket is made out of cork and the other included gasket is a little strip that is sandwiched between the timing cover and the oil pan, which is rubber. Ya it seems to be some pretty hardcore stuff. You are right on about the 'cold flow' issue, i did not consider that, but i wonder. How much pressure has to be exerted for that to occur? And as for Fel-Pro, i too have their rubber oil pan and valve cover gasket and love love loooove them. I googled Vellum and only came up with ancient writing parchment and artsy stuff, nothing even remotely like a gasket maker. :dunno:
  18. I hate having to deal with crappy paper/cork gaskets, but I have yet to find a decent rubber replacement gasket for either the T-stat housing or the timing cover. I have a feeling that there might not be one for the t-stat, but i was hopeful for the timing cover. Anybody have a p# or link? EDIT: I remember a while back my brother had brought a roll of some kind of specialty gasket maker. It was some seriously bada** stuff. After some serious digging on google i determined this is what it was/is. PTFE FLANGE JOINT SEALANT http://www.gasket-tools.com/sealants-ptfe-joint-seal.asp Its cut-able, compressable, easily molded and shaped with your hands, resistant to both exteme ends of the temperature spectrum (-400 - 600  ), extreme liquid and gas pressures, its non toxic, and will not degrade.
  19. This is more of an 'almost worst mechaincal failure' Back when i knew just enough to be dangerous, I removed both front axle shafts on my truck trying to figure out why my 4wd wasnt working. I drove it around the block one time and parked it back in the work shop. I jacked up the front end and noticed that both front tires were now a little cocked. Both unit bearings had become unpressed and by some stroke of dumb luck had not let go entirely during my jaunt around the block.
  20. Oh Yeaa! Wagoneer all the way!! :rock on: In lue of steel wool I HIGHLY recommend using those magic eraser deals, extra strength ones to be exact. They work incredibly well for taking off deep set in stains and such. Case in Point: Severely stained fender after good hard scrubbing with hot soapy water. . . . Before: After:
  21. Simply fantastic, . Wouldnt it be cool if we could design a book around Cruiser's Renix tips??? A nice hard back, with large color pics. I would be first on the pre-order list if anyone were ever to try it.
  22. :hijack: Not to continue to divert from the OPs original topic, but i could not agree more with both of these statements. While it does still exist, it is extremely rare. "Southern hospitality" any more is just one wealthy family catering to another in an attempt to jocky for a better social/economic/political position. What do you guys think of you some says southern hospitality, as in what is it supposed to be. Sorry shelbyluvv
  23. Superb image quality, good angle/lighting, easy to follow and understand. He's a cool guy, i have met him in person. Bought a 4.0 short block from him. This is part 1 of a 3 part vid Best of luck.
