Reusing a Comanche "frame"
Jeep Driver replied to omega_rugal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I want one bad enough............. I could find a solid roller for about $800 and drag from wherever to wherever. If I wanted one bad enough. I see no good reason to marry a mouse and a rat. -
Set the 2.8 aside...........everyone has an opinion about it............so be it. Your 85 is an unmolested classic, 85s are not common, 2drs are less common, loaded unmolested 2drs even less common. There are many of us who would appreciate yours. I'll suggest removing the steps, rear add-on lights, and the magnetic flags.......those are distractions. Find a nice backdrop and photograph it. Describe it in your ad just as you did here. Yours would sell at my locale in less than 48 hours for about $3800 as is, less the distractions. If I took my time and really worked it, was willing to travel- meet half way........really really promoted it, I think I could get $6K. List it in Wisconsin and Michigan also. I'm assuming it's not a rust bucket?

And frankly, if there is anyone who is guilty of interjecting themselves in other people threads/business, it's you.

You are always taking a pot shot at me. I'm glad you are here to control thought and content. Keep it as boring as you like.

1984 Jeep Pickup 4WD J10 Laredo On Ebay
Jeep Driver replied to tomsjack's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Very nice. And cheap. -
A petition? Petitions do not motivate or move the private sector, the market does. Tail lights for the MJ is an absolute niche market, the perfect example of one. Omix would not be the company to approach anyway. RnD people along with the bean counters search markets, there are not enough MJs on the road, or off-road for that matter, also, just look at the way by which you treat your trucks, 90% of you destroy them. The 10% of us who do not abuse/misuse/chop/roll over/rattle can....etc.... do not make a large enough market to pursue. The Omix character is wrong about one thing, my guess is that initial investment would be more along the line of $100K or more, most companies have a minimum production run, maybe 10,000 units, production company will get paid once the units are produced, then an investor/retailer has to sit on those units/inventory until they move/sell. Initial retail price may be close to $500 per pair, I know, they know, you know..........you'll never buy. I imposed a rule on myself, my MJ money will come form sources outside my household funds, this is why it's taking me forever to get the parts I want, thus I never have to justify the money I spend. I'm about two weeks away from making the 50% down payment on my new gauge cluster, one of the questions I had for the designer was- 'will this ever make it into production?' The answer was the one that I expected, "no". Even with the number of XJs that my cluster would fit, NVU knows that they may never make another. I'm paying for the design, once designed and fitted, I was just curious if multiple clusters could be produced at a cheaper price. People in business know the market they serve. Omix is right about one thing............it is a money thing. MJ tail lights are ugly as hell anyway. Having been self-employed all of my working life, having produced a product (gun stock) ........................ Although it should not be, it's still shocking to me that most people do not know how the private sector, business, the economy at large, works.

Check continuity between the neg and switched contacts. May be that your relay only switches the neg side. IOWs, current does not flow through the unit.

How much for the '85? Would love to have that!

91 HO or Renix 4.6? Getting mixed advice.
Jeep Driver replied to Bonkers's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you are serious about what you are doing................ There are parts out there, one may fall into you lap tomorrow -or- it may take you a year to find one. But, two years from now...........five years from now..........? No. You want performance, reliability, off-the-shelf replacements........aftermarket, and it will cost you. '86 tank assemblies, NOS, are still available, use an on-rail pump and reg, your Renix already has a return, simple plumbing. That's what I'm doing. You'll have to work out the gauge issue, I'm going aftermarket there also. Come up with a plan, execute it. -

Jeep Driver replied to crumbscomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I filled my with fiberglass resin and added mesh to the weakest parts of it. Mine is out now and it will get redone before it goes back in, I thought the foam would hide the roughness of the interior, it did not, I'll smooth it out. But, it won't fall apart now. -

Clutch master cylinder line
Jeep Driver replied to HunterK's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hydraulic. Any hydraulic shop can make you a new braided SS line with the correct ends to your specified length. -
If you have a unit bearing, NOT a spindle, the 2x rotors and calipers are exactly the same as the 4x............for your era which should run through '99 IRRC.

Jeep Driver replied to Bonkers's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Based on what you said here- Money. ARB will run you $1000 per axle. Thick gear or change carrier, without looking it up, $300 per axle. You said you are not a mechanic, $800 minimum for install. Then you'll need air and plumbing. Both axles- $3600, not including misc, such as bearings and seals and brakes. Then you'll move on to the engine...........$4K minimum for anything beyond stock, stock replacement, $2k++ Just giving you a little perspective..........not raining on your parade. -
