Jeep Driver replied to a bum with money's topic in Forum Issues, Ideas, Testing
I have found that most forum search engines are rather clunky, not all, most. I have had better results searching outside the forum, google- 'keyless entry comanche club'. You may also find more information that way. Also, depends on spelling, is it keyless or key-less or key less? Most weak search engines are spelling dependent. -
Could be the throw out bearing. Could be a broken finger on the pressure plate. Could be a broken spring in the pressure plate. Either way, may be time for a clutch job. Assuming it is clutch related as you describe.

This is the most XJ this yard has seen in more than 2 years. No 80s XJs or MJs at all. https://www.pullapart.com/inventory/search/?LocationID=10&MakeID=29&ModelID=239&LocationPage=true -

https://knoxville.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=comanche&sort=rel This is what my CL has looked like for the last two years, you can search Cherokee also and it looks about the same, much of nothing in about a 200 mile radius. PnP and other JYs are even more barren. -

Of course you can, it's in your browser, I'm on a large screen and I can't read it. 904 in the 86, no TCM. Apparently some did come with the AW4 after 87, now you can include adding the TCM to the flexplate and the rest of his misfortune. Why am I speaking out against this move? Some of you are more than happy to cheerlead a man right down a rat's hole. It's a dumb move, waste of money and effort. Assuming he accumulated all the right parts the first time, and those are good parts. Mount, cooling lines, cooler, shifter, fluids, flex plate, TCM, wiring, drive shaft.........misc............etc, minimum $1600 or more. And then if a rebuild? out it comes and add $1000. And for what? behind a clapped out 2.5? -

Same search, you can actually read this one. One looks promising, but he still needs the flex plate. $725 plus freight and then no guarantees, must factor a rebuild. Diminishing returns. -

Manual to Automatic
Jeep Driver replied to Comanche_Dee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Since you won't respond, let me clarify. Or for anyone who is equally confused. I'm the one that mentioned the 1986. I have seen ONE 1986 MJ with the 2.5 and the 904, ONE, not many, ONE. I have not seen, nor heard of, nor read about any other year in which an MJ was produced with a 2.5 and a 904. If one exists, it's that rare. Many XJ and MJs were produced in 1986 with the 2.8 and the 904. I brought this up in case the OP has a buddy who says "hey, I know where one is that will bolt up", only to come back here to ask why his engine won't run and what's this wire and plug for? In any case, he won't find the parts anyway..........wasted my time, I guess. Maybe I should post in crayon? -

Little hammers found in coolant jackets?!

I suspect it has something to do with the casting process, they never got removed. -
Must be an Alabama thing. Don't feel bad, we have a special kind of hillneck in TN.

Jeep Driver replied to Comanche_Dee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 86 XJ MJ did come with an automatic behind the 2.8 that automatic will bolt up to your 2.5 however there is no provision for a CPS the 86 2.8 that was carbureted and had no need for a CPS You will need the flexplate for a renix 2.5 they are not made anymore and I seriously doubt you're going to find one I recommend you seriously consider a repower -

The 86 MJ did come with an auto trans in 2.5 yeah I suspect it was the 904 Very few MJ or XJ came with the 2.5 automatic they're out there but you're going to have a hard time finding one And after all that work you're going to regret it -
I'm an alcoholic, more than 19 years sober now. Quitting drinking was a matter of life or death. I still smoke. When I quit smoking it will be the same as you, I'll just be done with it. All addictions will kill you, some just take longer than others. Tobacco is the most addictive drug that exists. Congratulations.

No, it's a situation whereas you do what you want because no matter what anyone says, they are wrong. I had mine made, grade 8, 9/16, deep nuts. Heavy truck repair shop that made the Ubolts recommended that I torque to 80lbs. The bolts will not yield before they crush the tube of the 8.25 rear, mine are at 70lbs. I've reused mine three times. You buy BS Chinesium bolts............well................ Do what you want, save the arguing.

Wow, great pics. Beautiful country, I'd like to get up there some day.

☻ Yeah, it's a Powermaster. Could you imagine going back to a 4.0 now that you have repowered?

The 2.5 is still in the truck until I can afford this ↓↓↓↓↓

Disconnect the cable from the trans and you should be able to pull the cluster out on your lap and then see to disconnect.

I haven't really shown this here because this engine is coming back out. Runs great, just looking for power now.
