With a helper, get underneath it. Look at the tcase shifter linkage. Have your helper shift the tcase from above. Look for loose or worn parts. Its seems odd that you can get 4L but not 4H. You have to shift past 4H to get to 4L. If that is true for yours, then the internal shift forks may not be properly aligned or broken. The NP231 is a very strong tcase and easily serviceable. If you are confident of your mechanical skills, you can rebuild it. If not, watch a bunch of Youtube videos on rebuilding one. Matt at BleepinJeep has at least one. Search YT for more.

First: We need more info about your truck: engine, trans, does it still have the Central Axle Disconnect, what modifications were done by you or a previous owner.... Second: Why did you revive an 11 year old thread? You should have started a new one.

Rec'd a sales ad from RA for close out parts for MJs. One of the parts is a grill. The picture is a 10 slot grill. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=682815&cc=1181483&pt=1384&jsn=__GIP__7__&_nck=8LVLUxTaILBT%2BtLxkg8%2B3F88AqnCiBbuZcsuKY0by4KHNpYnxk%2B6vuscn3gvz8TpT1DIbUdPizJDcEwypy6uFEZaEeZQrfl5UhltfMOrEQLFCE4b%2FDY%2FPE9x1Kne8Q3Ush9SHk7uGpZuZH7AKt7Bgxvnv06%2FPsC9pTFoBLG0Cfo%3D

Transfer Case Basics - Won't Shift

You may have noticed the dash is missing from the XJ. It is in my garage. The interior color matches my MJ. -

Running rich
87MJTIM replied to Dickinson County Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I’ll say it before anyone else: perform Cruiser’s Renix tips first. Next, purchase Nickintimedesign’s Renix Engine Monitor (REM). the idle is to high. It should be ~750rpm. Probably a vacuum leak. Check all hoses and tighten the manifold bolts. Running rich maybe from prior vacuum leaks. The ECU may need to adjust the fuel trim. The REM will help identify other issues with the engine components operation -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91

Hmmm...mine has a C clip. Can those disks slide back some to allow the counters to spread out? -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91

There is a "C" clip on the shaft. Remove that clip. That will allow you to spread the counters apart. You can then rotate the counter to the proper numbers - one at a time. When done, you put the clip back on and reinstall everything. -

Jeep MJ project, guidance needed

You can use either the bushing or bearing. If you use the bushing, let it soak in oil before installing -
Jeep MJ project, guidance needed
87MJTIM replied to RusellFromCanada's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The bushing you want is for a ‘74 CJ5 w/ a 304. This will have the correct inner and outer diameters to fit the larger input tip of the AX15. Search Rockauto for the part. -
Engine Replacement Must Do's?
87MJTIM replied to BizarroStormy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have you performed a compression test? leak down test? These would help ID what's wrong before you start an amputation. -
I have a Renix head that is collecting dust (and possibly rust). It is fully disassembled. I needs to be rebuilt. The PO told me it was magnifluxed with not cracks. But it is here in MD (just a stones through off I-70).

An 89 XJ would have the Renix engine controls, unless a PO swapped in a HO engine from a 91-95 XJ. The Renix is a pre-obd system. (See Nickintime REM scan tool.) You didn’t say what the 86 has in it: 2.5 or 2.8. To swap to a 4.0, you want all the engine wiring and the ECU (under the dash, above right foot). As 89 said, the 86s weren’t designed to fit the longer 4.0s. The firewall will need to be pounded with a hammer to fit in the 4.0. See the DIY section for info on doing the swap. -
We bought it new in December 04. It is the last new vehicle we’ve bought. It has the 5 speed manual transmission. Honda stopped offering a manual in the CRV after 06.

I am trying to remember my college daze. You would want something "economical" for commuting back and forth, especially 11 hours. You may also consider transporting your "stuff" back and forth. Even if you purchase a house, you have to furnish it in the beginning and take is back (or Goodwill) when you leave. While there, you may want to drive your friends around, also. With some of these in mind, you may want to look at the Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4. These offer fuel economy, storage space, and seating capacity. I have an '05 CRV with 376k on the clock. I personally would not recommend the MJ at college. Reliability and drunk college friend are issues to consider. The MJ as a 2nd vehicle, but...how many college students have two vehicles. My 2¢

I am assuming you are getting all the 4x4 parts from the 96. Just to start a partial list: The crossmember from the 96. Your old BA10 x-member doesn't fit. The tcase shift linkage from the old. You should keep your original flywheel. The pilot bushing is for a 74 CJ5 w/ a 304. Search RockAuto for the part number.

I am having the same issue - hard to shift into 1st at stop lights. I have a second AX15 in my shed waiting to swap over. Are you have the same issue with the changes? Do you have internal or external slaves? What clutch kit did you install?

The yellow box is the cruise control "brains". The black box is the intermittent wiper control box. The fuse is part of the cruise control wiring. Cruise wires S/B blue w/trace. Not sure what the pink wires are for.

Yes, one family counts! Looks nice. It has an original rear bumper. Put your info in your signature: Yr, engine, transmission, any modifications done to it.

To be fair, the packaging claims to be "weather resistant," not pick resistant.

Just remember, I have a parts 93 XJ that has the wood grain door uppers. The bezel is a little faded.
