transfercase swap question
JOMJ87 replied to offroader461's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have heard its not that simple but i am not sure. I read that the CAD axle seal is not made to seal around the straight axle???? I also read it in a off-road mag but who knows. It was something about the housing don't have a place for the inner seal that is used on a non disco and it can leak fluid and allow water intake. Also the inner seal fro the cad one will not seal on the straight axle. I will see if i can find the article for you but i don't know first hand. :dunno: Cole -
I ran 31s with 3.55 gears and it did ok flat but don't try hills also you will loose 5th gear almost completely. I have 4.10 with 35s and its about the same but it does ok for where i drive because i hardley take it off base so it don't get above 40 mph that much. :D Cole

I have heard that reversing tires like baja claws and such which are directionals that you gain traction on rocks but loose in mud since the water and goo and yes i said goo :D is pushed to the center actually lift you up and thus cause you to have less traction. But i havent seen this tested So who knows.

Man Every jeep site I'm a member of keeps getting hit like this. :hateputers:  :headpop: Cole

So pete you removed the little triangle piece that connects to the fender. I was unsure if this would hurt it cause i had the sawzall on it and decided to wait for some pics. BTW i am making mine out of 5/16 X 5" channel and using short pieces of it for mounts along with some 3" of the same thickness. So far its been a pain cause it acctually structural Hot roll steel so the sides are thicker in the corner (like close to 1/2") so I'm haveing to grind corners and fill in gaps and make gussets so i feel its strong enough. New MJ87 Owner. What do you think?
JOMJ87 replied to southernjustice76's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Doesnt that hitch mount for your highlift kill your departure angle or are you just a mud guy and not worry about it. Cole -
Most mechanics only do what you tell them to do usally for example one of my comrads took his car to the mechanic because it clicked when he turned and the CV axle BOOT was ripped so he told the mechanic to chack the boot and metioned it was clicking. After $250 and the clicking returning  :headpop: he took it somewhere else and the guy had only changed the boot not the axle which was already destroyed. Lesson to be learned is make sure of what work was REALLY done. Cole

This is the guy that posted the public transport stuff???? Cole

Just take bigger rubber line and slip over the old it should hold good. Cole
-
you can also take the nuts off before you jack it up and slowly jack it and there will be a perfect spot where the bolts slide right out then just throw jack stands under. Cole
