  1. 90 xj. So i need a 4.0 automatic ECU? Cole
  2. Is there a difference between the Auto or manual ECU for the 4.0??? I need to know cause the ECU i found is a Manual. Thanks Cole
  3. I will try that the ECU borrowing fell thru he had to go out of town this weekend. I may have found one for a good price so i might buy it and see if it works. Man this thing has made me nuts trying to get it going. I am gonna sell it now because i am running out of time to work on it but i want to get it running so it would be worth more. Cole
  4. I have pressure and floe just no power to the injector. I will look at that relay as well. Cole
  5. runs on starter fluid like a champ i have done a thorough sweep and narrowed it to the injectors hot side. Has ground on the plugs for the injectors but no power. ooked up a spare injector that had the end removed so you can see it fire and nothing this same tested had worked during the timing problem. Like i said its a all of the sudden thing. I had the timing wrong but had fuel i then fixed the timing and tried to crank without any luck. Was thinking TPS because it controls the injectors pulse rate but it goes into the ECU to do so. Maybe i can borrow a ECU from a buddy and try that?? Any other ideas. Thanks guys. Cole
  6. Swap all renix sensors and distributor over and use the renix computer. Modify the TPS to work on the newer TB or use the renix intake and TB(suggest boring it out) and it will work. SEARCH for 40ho with renix computer and there is a thread by me asking abotu it and I'm doing it right now. Cole
  7. I have been working on a XJ and now the injectors don't seem to get power. I am not sure what controls the injector firing but it must be broke. I need to get this thing running so i can sell it cause i don't have time to deal with it nowthat i am leaving early. Thanks for the help and suggestions. oh its a 4.0 auto. Cole
  8. Fishin pole one works great Get the top half of a light action rod and it then bend it in half so that it will pull string longer like this video. Cole

    DJ wall art:

Cut the light buckets out and mold them into the front of your MJ so you can run round headlights. I want to do that on my Xj if i can find the headlight buckets for it. Look at Detours offroad at there black XJ they did it but didnt have much info on it. Cole
  10. Oh and between us all we should make a DIY thread using the easiest built and then each of us with variations of that one chime in with what we did to get it to work. I think staying all renix fuel system is the easiest sounding with my cluster being a harder version. OH and BIGMASS did you not use the knock sensor. I left mine off and then hooked it up but didnt put it in the block just to eliminate it as a problem. I think my TPS is my problem though i got it backwards maybe. Cole
  11. Relay i would say as well. If you wheel it i would switch it so you can turn it on all the time when on the trail. Cole
  12. for those that have cpmpleted this what injectors renix or HO. And if you use renix fuel pump will it run the HO injectors? i got mine 2 crank but it doesnt idle well and it will not rev up. it seems to be lean. i am running HO injectors with the renix fuel pump. i am ready to rip it apart AND START OVER. EDIT cause I'm alittle to caught up in this to realize i had mess the TPS up and it was reading back wards as in 4.87 at idle and .08 at WOT sooo that may be my issue not the fuel pump but just for information which injectors are you guys running??? Cole
  13. The motor came to life today but I am having some fuel trouble. I don't think I'm getting the pressure i need but i am going to do some buttoning up tomorrow and maybe do the rear lift or at least prep for lift. Hopefully after 2 days of troubleshooting i will have some luck tomorrow. I also changed my first CPS and it was alot easier then i have read. Ill try to get some pics up tomorrow night. Cole
  14. i have one on my new xj. it has the bubble and it shows temp and such. If the bubble is keyless can you get remotes for it? I thought the bubble was for the temp? Cole
  15. I believe 1/2" of play total both directions in the longest open span is a good way to check. Thats what i follow most of the time so i hope its close to being right. One of those old timer things i picked up when i started working on vehicles. Cole
  16. Here is my new XJ build (havent named it Yet) Well here it goes… I got a 90 XJ for a great price from A local guy its a 4.0, AW4, 231J, Power windows and doors, CRUISE, AC, and also nice body and real nice interior other than being dirty and full set of skids (gas tank Transfer case and front). I started out thinking it had a blown head gasket but had an idea it could be more. I pulled the head to find no blown head gasket but instead the number 1 piston was missing some of the front. Sooo with this find I needed a motor so a week of searching I found one in NC with 150000 miles on it but in amazing shape internally for a great deal. The only problem was it was HO from a 97. I did some research and with guidance from the guy I bought it from I have almost completely installed the HO motor with renix computer intact. I swapped the following from the renix for those that need to do this or want to. I kept the CPS from it and swapped all sensors over minus the knock sensor so far(trying to delete it if it will work), the renix header, the distributor and the brackets for the renix alternator because I want to stay with a renix alternator so the plug still worked with it. Moving on I did a open radiator and deleted the tangled mess of heater lines. I also needed a HO era throttle cable and was gonna need the tranny kickdown but it adjusted to work with some rerouting. The TPS is a whole nother can of works with a makeshift bracket I made (You can buy one for some crazy cash) cause I love metal fabrication. The last thing to keep in mind is the renix fuel system uses a fuel return line and a vac. Actuated pressure regulator and with this in mind I made the renix fuel rail fit the HO intake. I will have to get final pics the bracket and arm I made to get it to work and post them. Below are some pics I have so far. Next on the list is Vac lines ran, Double check the sensors and wire, Rewire the CPS(was done before but not with good wire that was oil resistant), Change out the fuel pump, tighten motor mounts, run spark plug wires, bolt the splash shield thing to the bottom of the bellhousing, bolt exhaust to header, plug EGR (deleted) hole in header, run new heater lines and hook up radiator. There are a few more things I can't think of but most importantly I want to crank it before I start phase 2 which is a 4.5” lift and lowering the MJ back to almost stock cause its not gonna be my wheeler and I'm stilling the front lift and axles and tires from it for this. Timeline this build will be completely done including lift by the 22nd if all goes well so a 3 week build with a 6 day of no work break in their total isn’t to bad. Cole
  17. armybmbsqd, did you simply not use the knock sensor or did you do something else with it? I ask because I just finished assembling my short block today ('95 HO) and it has a threaded boss in the same location as the knock sensor in my Manche ('89 Renix) but I have not pulled the sensor from my '89 to try it yet because I'm still driving it until the HO/AX15 are ready to install. I would like to know this as well. Cole
  18. vaccum lines most likely the cause. Cole
  19. I ran my 87 SWB out alot cause i don't look at it and only got 13 or so back into it. Cole
  20. ECM is different and differnet wiring. I think i have the schematic on the wiring and i will ook and see what else it might have. Cole
  21. I would nto use flat as stated. The instructions above are perfect for this. You can see miine in my build thread in the projects section(don't have pics to post at work). I used flat and it didnt work to well. The XJ will get satin. Lead_not_follow; what brand of paint did you use. Cole
  22. Well here is the background of the build. I bought a XJ with cruise and power everything tilt comlun in really great shape. We thought the head gasket was blown but when i pulled the head the #1 piston aint all there. :fs1: So i needed and motor in great shape and i found one from a board member that is from a 97 and in good condition. I have thought of staying all renix but i would rather keep the HO injection. Str8OuttaBallard---did you use the HO tps??? does the HO tps and renix tps give out the same readings?? If so i can wire the HO one to the renix harness and be fine. just wanting to figure that last piece out there. Cole
  23. Pete am getting a 97 4.0 complete and using it. BLHTAZ: Well i used to think that too but i know it will work i have seen it driving and know how to do it. The only problem is you have to make a bracket to allow the TPS to work. TO EXPLAIN; you use the following from the renix TPS, distributor, Temp sender, CPS and flywheel, and any other sensors on the motor. The one that i know of was ran crazy good. Seemed more powerful then the HO before the switch. I am sure someone has done this or seen it or has a old post with pics. Theres a write up on at this link but no pics http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=257881 Thanks Cole
  24. Anybody got any good write ups on this. I know you can do it and run the HO injection but you make a bracket for the TPS and i don't know how its made. Thanks Cole
  25. I got a computer that worked a year ago when pulled if you need one. PM me if you want it and we can work out the price. Anyway about the wires Painless will make you one but you can probably find cheaper ones then that. Cole
