Torq's 2nd 1991 Eliminator
scaleless replied to Torq_Shep's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Absolutely gorgeous wheels. The white-lettered tires really completes the look. -
XJ and MJ are definitely Glocks. Small and boxy but pack a punch. They made a billion and they're fairly cheap. Some people like to load a ton of ricer crap on them and some people like to build them into monsters, but one thing is for sure: parts are EXPENSIVE!

Need transmission help.
scaleless replied to DerricksLaymon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
AX15 is definitely the way to go. Where are you located? I've got an extra AX15 at the moment in Lousiana. -
The starter switch is on top of the column at about the 12 o'clock position. Follow Jdog's advice and check for voltage out of the starter relay. Way easier to test than the switch. I personally think the switch is a nightmare to fiddle with if you don't drop the steering column, which is probably pretty intentional.

Well of course every state has its own share of problems. It's called the federal government!

Well, yeah, but compared to California, New York, New Jersey and the like, AZ is a shining beacon of freedom haha! I think it really boils down to proximity; people leaving CA don't want to go very far. AZ is second in net migration rate only to Nevada, which seems to support that.

You can't even buy the GOOD Brake cleaner in California! I don't know how Jay Leno survives!

That's why everyone is moving to Texas, Florida, and Arizona. For whatever reason people don't like suffering the highest cost of living in the US for a quality of life more appropriate for a Soviet gulag!

Yes, that would be awesome! @Torq_Shep just had his Eliminator rims powder coated and they look absolutely beautiful, so those are covered. And I borrowed a pic @schardein posted of his turbines. It's fairly perfect. I'm stuck at work for quite a while, so it may be a bit before I can get them cut out and cleaned up. And I guess since there are a few more slots to fill, what other rims should we add to the list?

Can do! Let's see what I can come up with.

I'm with fiatslug on this one lol

Pete, please, I can only take so much!

That is the 93-96 XJ police package speedometer. The XJ would also have the fairly rare Extended Idle switch.

If it's a factory roll bar, I would absolutely advise against hacking it up. They're rare, valuable, and they're definitely not making any more. If it doesnt fit your truck, just pass it on to someone who can use it. If it's aftermarket or a rollbar for another vehicle, then do whatever you need to make it fit. How about some pictures?

Probably won't look as good as the original, but simple decals like that can easily be reproduced by buying heat transfer vinyl and printing the lettering onto it with an inkjet printer. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0757XKQC3 vinyl sheets like this come in a lot of different thicknesses and don't always feed through all printers, but it's worth a try. You can also get them premade from here: https://www.stickeryou.com/products/iron-on-transfers but usually the ones made for T shirts are a lot thinner and more like the airbag warning than the thick orange vinyl.

What to do with auto trans cooler
scaleless replied to Jesse J's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I may be mistaken but I think Metric Tons as well as just the tow package have an auxiliary transmission cooler that goes inline with the normal radiator transmission cooler. -
What is this and where does it go?
scaleless replied to Jeeper1093's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ha, I didn't either! And yeah, noticeably wider as well. Your fuse block seems well-populated, so I wouldn't really worry about it. Perhaps the previous owner bought it to replace the wiper fuse and then tossed it on the floor after realizing it would not fit. -
Renix sputtering, misfiring above idle
scaleless replied to scaleless's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, I used tip 13 and no, it wasn't ambiguous at all - it is clear and well-written. I think what happened was I indexed it correctly first before removing the distributor again to prime the oil pump, and after that I had too much confidence and wasn't paying nearly enough attention since it was something I had done before. I definitely recall that I was listening to podcasts at the time. Although maybe if you arranged it like a picture book for ages 3-5 I would have gotten it right LOL jk jk -
Renix sputtering, misfiring above idle
scaleless replied to scaleless's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hahaha I believe I get the honor of being inducted into the league of extraordinary dunces today! After not having the time to diagnose the truck for a few days, I returned to first principles and very rapidly found the issue - I apparently don't know which way the distributor spins lmao. Not really, perhaps, but I definitely had a very long brain fart. My distributor was perfectly indexed out of the box (don't know where it came from or if it was oem - it was in a box in the truck when I bought it) so I did not need to cut the tab off. I double checked the index again after priming the engine with oil, but the truck sat a week or so before I started it so I primed the engine again and replaced the distributor. When I did this, I apparently put it in one tooth off, and now the leading edge of the rotor was nearly perfectly aligned with #1 at TDC. When I was visually inspecting the distributor, I was not paying enough attention to notice that it was, in fact, not actually the trailing edge of the rotor. This was just enough for the spark to jump the gap at idle, but miss or fire on the last plug when advanced any further. After the first start, I checked the distributor indexing at least twice and failed to spot this. Anyways, despite feeling slightly dumb, I'm glad I was able to solve the issue somewhat quickly, without tearing everything apart, and most importantly without spending a buttload of money on random parts that I don't need! After moving the distributor back a tooth, the engine runs fantastically and I'm finally ready to move on with the truck. Thanks everyone for the help, especially @cruiser54 for naming the issue immediately despite my inability to quickly follow up on it! I'm updating the title to better reflect the issue in case someone searches their issue and could be helped by this thread. -

Renix sputtering, misfiring above idle
scaleless replied to scaleless's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I found a few threads on CC and other jeep forums describing my issue, and in those cases it was fixed by replacing the flywheel and/or slotting and adjusting the CPS, so that may be the issue. -
Here's some starters. Hopefully the upload doesn't reencode the images or else the transparency and stuff will be gone. Others that I was thinking were a "4x4" decal and the "4.0 Litre High Output" decal.
