  1. The speedo on the 87 4.0 AX15 was not working, so I finally pulled the gauge cluster to investigate. The plastic cable end was broken off from the metal crimp and I see no way to repair the break. I believe this plastic end simply grabs onto the metal port at the back of the cluster. Image Not Found My 86 parts truck 2.5 AX5 has a cable with a metal end but attaches via a pressure type spring clip. The tranny end had been disconnected by PO and has no crimped end to attach to trans. Image Not Found Image Not Found Is there a possibility of using the good from the 86 to fix the bad from the 87 or should I just but a new cable from NAPA ? Which brings up one more concern. The pics of speedo cable from NAPA and Rockauto show both ends of the cables with knurled metal attachments. The cluster port pieces are smooth and slightly bell shaped. Has anyone used these new cables with success?
  2. You'd have to check a couple shops but to have the OE seats in near perfect condition would be a nice feature for the truck. I would guess a quality job will be $250-$350.
  3. Now Jim, you're not that old. However, I did manage to find a photo of you with your first Comanche. Image Not Found

  5. The floor brackets are specific to Comanches so if you go with a different seat, like Ranger for instance, you'll need to use MJ brackets or fab something up. The simplest solution would be to have your seat reupholstered at a local shop and have the cushion built to your specs.
  6. The ZJ is from 93 to 98 and they did have 4.0 available. I don't know the specifics on swap-ability so someone else will need to answer that.

  11. We all share your sentiments for this Club. Each of us learn something new almost every day. Good luck with your new career but 7 hours commute each way, 5 days a week, is 70 hours of road time every week. Don't do it man! ( ;) :D )
  12. I've cleaned the interior of each truck upon purchase and have used various cleaning products. It depends on how filthy and sticky things are. 90% of grime will come off with warm water & dish soap or 409 if it seems stubborn. Be sure to rinse with clean water and air dry completely. A green scrub pad and a bristle brush should get everything.
  13. I've seen the AMC 20 in more than a few '86 MJs, but I have never seen one in an XJ and I don't think it was mentioned in the original XJ FSM. That could be correct. I thought I remembered seeing a XJ at a junkyard with the 20 but I'm not 100% positive.
  14. You can also use the AMC Dana 20 rear axle found on 86 MJs and 84-86 XJs. They are much stronger than a D35 and were used on vehicles equipped with heavy duty suspension for those years.

My neck hurts! Ahh! That's better.
  17. Where are you?
  18. I don't have a AX5 tower but I do have the adapter to make a AX15 tower taller for the AX5 transmission. The adapter is 8mm in thickness so the 5 is taller than the 15. Correction: I used a wooden ruler to measure and double checking the accuracy, the adapter may be 9mm but I don't have calipers to confirm.

    hmmmm...

In '08, GM gave the Colorado/Canyon a 5.3 Vortec and they come in extended or crew cab. Just a thought.

  23. Did you hand wash one of your trucks? That's usually when it rains here in San Diego, within 12 hours of my washing a vehicle.
  24. No, they are not interchangeable.
