  1. I'll check tonight, I think I have a box of these that are doing me no good sitting on the shelf.
  2. Yes. Please. Have fun, looks to be a pretty easy one to resurrect!

    I'm a Dad again!

    Congrats!
  4. Yes. It will be a dedicated space that is used for many things. My wife will use the space mostly as her dedicated office for her Marriage and Family Therapy Counseling practice. A separate exterior entrance to the room will be provided specifically with this purpose in mind. This allows her to practice easily from home as her schedule allows and not have to rent an office (no driving time to get to appointments, no wear and tear on cars, etc). When not used for that she will also use it as a dedicated art studio, she enjoys painting with acrylics and has no dedicated space in the house for that. It also puts some "skin in the game" for her to go along with and further the efforts to build the pole barn. Lofts will be built above the shop and office for lumber and Jeep part storage. Also large household seasonal items, etc - and Roger overnites. Bring your own beer.
  5. All pictures taken this winter here at the house.
  6. Dane County - Here is the zoning sheet for RR-1, which is what we are. I am limited to the size of the building based on lot size, can have up to 30% of the lot covered with building(s). I won't come near this with my planned pole barn. https://danecountyplanning.com/documents/pdf/Zoning-District-Fact-Sheets/RR-1.pdf Rough floor plan (not all exterior windows/doors are shown) that I have been tossing around for awhile:
  7. Currently NO BIDS on this one. Front end damage, but very fixable. Someone snag this one up! https://www.copart.com/lot/57813490/salvage-1988-jeep-comanche-ky-louisville
  8. A very good deal. And it is complete, right down to the plugs for the unused hitch balls. A deal to be had!
  9. Both trucks and all of the MJ parts will get consolidated in the new barn. A 36’ deep stall will be dedicated for both of the trucks to park back to back. You guys are more than welcome to swing by as things progress along. Got to get the trees down and fill brought in first...
  10. That’s the plan. In 20 years I’ll be retired and woodworking my days away. :)
  11. Thanks! The chainsaw mill is good for small stuff that sawmills would scoff at and not even want to load into their mill. I have only used it for cutting hardwood. I bought it in 2015 and have cut mostly oak and cherry with it. In 2019 I cut some walnut with it for a friend, that tree was 18" diameter and we did a 10' log. It was just under a tank of gas on the Stihl 041 AV Super per pass - keep in mind that is walnut. Cherry cuts more efficiently, oak does take plenty of fuel as well. The mill is an Alaskan MK III mill, they now have a slightly improved version MK IV. It is very simple to use, it clamps onto the bar of the saw. I also have the Alaskan Mini-Mill for edging the boards with my smaller chainsaw, works very nicely as well. The ripping chain is a MUST for the boards. If you use regular chain the wood is left very jagged, I tried it at first with poor success. https://granberg.com/product-category/alaskan-mill/ I hope to make a small bandsaw mill in about 5-10 years - to store in the pole barn of course and wheel out when I want to use it. The wood shown in that photo is black cherry. It will probably go for cabinet making. The center of that tree was starting to rot out so there are not many quality boards that it produced. There will be plenty of stiles and rails that can be made from it. It is hard to find a straight black cherry tree, need to work with what the tree gives you. Black cherry is beautiful wood and it has a nice smell to it. I like burning it for firewood inside and woodworking with it. Yes, some of those old CCC buildings are beautiful and really neat! I do like that method of siding a weathertight building. I've witnessed it used many times on national and state park buildings. For the small pole shed I purposefully wanted to let the breeze through to help keep things dry. I think that my end use for the small pole shed will be for drying lumber in it. With both doors opening up on the ends, it will be perfect for that.
  12. HA! Looks VERY nice Wade!
  13. Car-Part.com - Check it out!
  14. That is the plan. Our lot is 1.2 acres and it has plenty of mixed hardwood on it. As the trees come down over the years it is my intent to mill as much of them as I can for lumber. The pole barn will have a nice workshop in the NW corner and I hope to be able to make many nice wood projects through the years. The lumber that I don’t use myself I’ll sell for profit. Each of the remaining 3 trees that need to come down will have plenty of sawlogs in them. The Basswood is the only one I have on the property that is ready for harvest so EVERY bit of that one that can be milled will be cut for lumber. Yes, slow going though! The more that I think about it I’m going to have to hire builders for erecting, roofing and siding the pole barn. Much better for my marriage and kids to have me available than stuck, in my wife’s words, “on a never ending project.” I want to do it all, there is so much pride in that. If I could only clone myself... That plant, the thing is always in my way LOL. You know I stack wood. Years ago you’ve seen my folks place, you know how I grew up. I think I’ve split and stacked more wood than 85% of the world population has. I actually have a nice side business going by selling firewood on the side of the road. Sweet side hustle and people love it over the “poof” quality slab wood sold at gas stations for $5 per bundle.
  15. No further work on the shed has taken place. I have been busy on clearing land for the pole barn. Slower going than I had hoped as it has been me alone mostly doing the work. I’m down to three trees left to come down and they are all BIG. Basswood, Black Oak and White Oak. As the tress come down I cut and split them into firewood. I have kept some saw logs for cutting into boards. I just started cutting up some of the black cherry last weekend. I have some elm as well that I’ll do with the chainsaw mill. Bigger logs will go to the actual sawmill... Here are photos of the progress from last fall and into the winter so far. My neighbor has the nice log cabin that you see. He is about the best neighbor a person could ask for. Some of the photos are from our house roof :)
  16. Looking great Ben! Nice progress for 2020. 2021 will be a great year for finishing this all off how you want it. The hardest work is done, and it was done very nicely! Be proud, you have done a great job on this.
  17. ...but at least they are painted red!
  18. Interested, going to need more details and probably give my RSVP later in the winter when I know more about the situation I’ll be in then for the spring.
  19. Finally getting around to this... here are yards that I know there are still MJs in them as I have visited them all in 2020. Jack's Auto Ranch - N6848 N Island View Rd, Watertown, WI 53094 - 5 MJs in stock as of Fall of 2020. I have all of them registered in the MJ Registry. This place is HUGE, I have not been down each row of the entire junkyard yet and I have been there at least 10 times. Somewhat friendly for pull your own parts. The MJs are all over the place here, hard to describe their locations as the place is so large. 3D Auto Salvage - 10139 E County Rd A, Janesville, WI 53546 - 1 MJ in stock as of Summer 2020. It is registered in the MJ Registry. This is a smaller yard with not a large selection. The 1 MJ is located behind the office, not back in the Chrysler section of the yard. Not so friendly for pull your own parts if the owner does not know you. Schmidts Auto Salvage - 6918 Meffert Rd, Waunakee, WI 53597 - 4 MJs in stock as of Spring 2020. All are registered here. All back in the northeast corner of the yard with the other Jeeps. Very friendly yard that allows walking the yard to pull your own parts. Auto Parts and Recycling - W4726 Co Rd A, Fredonia, WI 53021 - 1 MJ in stock as of Fall 2020. It is registered here. It is located in the classics section of the yard on the western edge. It is pretty well picked over but someone might find some things they still need from it. The yard is a U-Pull it yard, very friendly to walking and pulling.
  20. Next year our 5 year old Daughter becomes a Lion in Cub Scouts. Her Sister will follow suit 2 years later. I never followed thru with OA after the Ordeal. I fell in love with Jeeps, skiing and welding instead...
  21. Got the message both of you left for me about adding in info that I know of. Yes - I'll happily add in the info that I have. It will be a longer list, don't have the time to do it right now. I'll edit this post with my info hopefully later this week.
