Learned it long ago, only borrow small dollar items for free. Big ticket items can still be borrowed, but only for something of equal value in return. Most folks have no problem with the concept seeing as we all learn to share in school. Does he own anything you'd be interested in trading for the truck? About the only way to still be friends here is if he gives you something that you feel the MJ is worth and you can sign the truck over to him in return. Wipe your hands of the situation and enforce to him that this IS his problem. Otherwise, your days as friends are over.

The dash plaque and the tonneau cover have the incorrect spelling of Commanche on them. Wonder if it was purposefully done as it is on the dash plaque that way?!?!

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. I've still got nothing but good to say about RockAuto.

Great thread Ben! Dad and I had a similar story back in the day... My brother used his now father in law's beetle last summer as the get away car at his wedding. The days up to the wedding he and I got to drive it around. That was the first time I'd ever been in one, lots of fun! I can easily see the draw to these little cars after riding around in that one for a few days.

I've been using my '90 as a DD lately due to other issues with my normal DD. I run premuim in the MJs because it's the only gas around that does NOT have ethanol in it. The trucks run noticeably better on it, hardly any engine noise compared to 87 octane with 10% ethanol... I use it for all of my power equipment as well, big difference there too compared to 10% ethanol gas... It seems to store for longer periods as well, I'm guessing that's a benefit of the non ethanol part...

Good news that you have a replacement already lined up. Where do you live at? If nothing more than to keep eyes on what happens with your old MJ so that others might be able to get some parts from it once it leave the impound lot.

Here we go, starting to look at my options here. I know that the rockers are supposedly available from the aftermarket,but the quality and the fit of aftermarket stuff does not impress me. I am looking for an OEM set for both sides that has been cut off of a truck, or if I am lucky enough an NOS set. My other option is to have a new set of rockers broken out at a local fab shop or try and make my own. The cab corners I have can be made to work, but I'd rather start with something else. My cab corners are just starting to rust, but they have been repaired before. The passenger side has holes from a dent puller, thanks to a previous owner. This will be for my white '90... Thanks,

:ack: Any big plans for the summer? I hope to get the '88 back on the road, or at least usable around my property. For the last half year I've been welding patches in the floor in my free time. I had it all patched up great years ago, but the carpet held so much water that it was a mess when I opened it back up. I'll never put carpet back in it, painting the floor black and leaving it be...

I guess that's where we differ. I'd much rather still have the truck sitting where I parked it with a busted up steering column, and smashed glass. Even if it got burned down where it sat, I'd much rather it refused to give some lowlife a lift across town before he decided it's ashy fate. On a somewhat related note, I've always been a fan of castration becoming a mandatory part of prison sentances...

So what are some of the anti-theft devices that you guys have installed? I can understand not wanting to elaborate too much for good reason, just looking for ideas in general... I'm looking at putting some switches into my ignition circuit this weekend. I have to leave my '90 in a very metropolitan area overnight sometimes, this thread has me scared...

Very cool, drove through there on Thursday last week. We have no track in Oconomowoc (CP does), just passing through on my way to and from the east side.

West Bend, Horicon, Beaver Dam? I drive through there all the time for work, we have lots of track in that area...
