Yeah, I think they just forced it together.
-
I want to regear it to run larger tires and make it so it can almost keep up with some modern vehicles. Plus I want it so I can have the power to tow if need be.
-
A PO put the clutch disc in backwards, causing it to never get tight and the bolts to back out. Then it wouldn’t ever disengage.
-
Interesting. I am hoping to have the transmission completely automatic though. Otherwise I might as well AX-15 swap it.
-
The clutch has been fixed so now it shifts and moves easier.

Minuit, if you want, I can try to get some pics of my dad’s paint booth. It’s nothing fancy and he builds show cars. It’s not even sealed up 100% against the rest of the shop.

Thank you

Interesting. Thank you for the info and for checking with him. I know, I know, I prefer 5 speeds too, but the pedal assembly is hard to find for these cars and I want to keep this car similar to how it was when I had it the first time. Its the same reason I want to keep the IFS

Long story short, this summer I am going to get my first car back. It is an 86 AMC Eagle with a 258, 3 speed auto, and 2.73 gears. My plan for the car is to lift it enough to be able to clear a 235/75R15 tire and regear it. In order to make it a pleasant driving car, I also want to swap in an AW4 or some other transmission with overdrive. So to any of you CJ or other Jeep guys, what is the best route to go for an automatic transmission with overdrive? Would an AW4 be the best option since it will bolt up or should I look at something that is not electronically controlled? So far, I haven't come up with much for any overdrive AT options, and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this. We are also considering doing a 4.0 head and fuel injection swap, in which case I would be able to use an AW4, but at this point I want to do my research as if I am keeping the carb. An AX-15 swap isn't off of the table, I would just rather keep an automatic in this one.

Wow! Factory or a regear? My parents have an 04 Suburban Z71.
-
These Z71s are neat rigs. Factory 17" wheels, 2" lift, 3.73 gears, locking rear end, plus the different roof rack and the different bumpers and chin spoiler.

The will make a huge difference. I have a truck with tow mirrors and one without. The mirror glass is about twice the size and having it sticking out farther gives you a much better viewing range.

The large on piece windows would be nice...

mini beast Project: Stock To Beast!!!

We have a red passenger side fender in WI if you need one. I can check with my parents to see if they’d sell it. -
It’s really not that bad if you can cut the section out of an XJ. Then you just have to cut and weld.
-
Thank you. We plan on doing a similar dual running board setup to that white truck. If you look closely at the white truck, the front wheel opening is larger than the rear due to it having half ton rear fenders. We used half ton front wheel openings to close up the front wheel openings on our truck.

That looks pretty nice. I’m with ya there. But dad wants black so dad is going to paint it black. It should turn out good though.
-
I know it wasn’t the end that many of us were hoping for, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
-
We don’t know when it will be ready to paint. It all depends on how busy my dad is with work over the summer. It is going to be black because it is going to be a work truck and black is easy to fix if need be.

Well, as much as I don’t want to, it is time for me to sell this truck. I have the option to buy my first car (1986 AMC Eagle) back.

I think @Swampy did

Driving on the street to street truck

Don’t forget—there is no oil in the transmission. Why did you decided to pull the AX-15 for the Tremec? Smoother shifts? Better gearing?
