Ok that should be easy. I think I can put most of the parts together to give you almost a full kit. Im lacking the vacuum reservoirs that special to cruise control set ups. There is a work around for this problem. I do have the instructions still. Wow. Bicentennial Eagle! Nice. I earned my Eagle back in '13. Let me gather the parts I have that will get you started with getting set up. You will have to get the brake switch possibly, the turn signal/cruise stalk and the speedo cables both upper and lower are available. They show to only fit a 90XJ but they will work on 87-90 MJ and XJ.

You rang? Haha. Without sounding like a total robot, how can I help?

86 MJ 2.5 AX5 Clutch Fork Issue
eaglescout526 replied to dastrius's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am not sure actually. I know that cone fits a lot of the older clutch assemblies from the AMC era, I am not aware of there being one for the AX15. Now I suppose there probably is a similar thing on the slave and it could be over extending to where you get some disengagement but not enough. -

Lol!! I was pretty careful not to disturb too much of the grease. -

Haha. Nothing exciting. Just 40 year old grease, taking the upper column housing out and fishing the old switch out and fishing the new one in. Now the interesting part is that the key cylinder is known as a type 1. Which is retained by a button you push in and then pull it out. The later ones, not sure when the change happened, is held in by a special bolt. -

You could do that. Just needs to withstand the pressure from the clutch pressure plate. -

Bada-bing! No problem at all. Hopefully that cone doesn’t cost an unnecessary arm and a leg like they seem to do. -

Do you have the plastic cone on the end of the slave rod? That will stop your travel and make a stiff pedal as you basically reach the maximum extension of the slave cylinder -

I know the 84-85 has that header except the Jeep nameplate is smaller and offset to the drivers side and has a 21 slot grill. 86-90 used the spider eyes as we all call it and 91-92 briarwood uses the regular header panel which might be the thinking. -

So this set up is a different animal. I installed this on my 88. There is no spring. The clutch pressure plate will naturally push the clutch bearing and fork back. That spring you put on is for the later 91-when ever Chrysler stops putting manuals in. Now when you say it’s stuck, does it not move at all in either direction or does it just hit a spot on travel and go ding? -

This one baffles me. youd have to drive the truck around with no carpet or a hole in that spot with a trap door to keep the heat and road noise out. Plus taking out the seats and interior when it only takes 15 min to lower a crossmember haha. Should be an easy patch though. Dont forget to grab your neighbors broken washer or dryer for cheap floor panels. -

I updated this list with some new stuff. I thought about adding rare and specific stuff like my rear window decal on my XJ but what are the odds of ever finding that in the wild. I will open this up to see if I am forgetting anything. -

I made hell of some discoveries today. So I did some digging to find paperwork on the AC. Found it and then some. Alot of invoices from the 90s on parts the PO replaced and his battle with the clutch. The AC I found out was installed July 20th of 1988. Went in for warranty for the idler pulley in 89. Its still the original R12.....yay and boo. The AC kit is from a company called ARA Manufacuring and installed by airmec inc. Pretty neat. Even found the kit instructions as well. Sadly does not list my expansion valve part number but I think I have that narrowed down to a Ford one as almost everything was standard in the 80's. So while this could be a true dealer American Air kit, I am going to say it isnt but nonetheless was still done by a professional AC shop in the 80's. I even found the original for sale ad from the local newspaper where the PO got it. Edit, the for sale ad is from Dec 9 1986. So the PO had it for two years almost, threw in AC then took it up to WA and fought alot of battles with the clutch. How neat. -
How rusty are we talking? Course if doing the booster upgrade, I think youd have to chance the master too. That being said, hows the pads and shoes? I had this issue where my pedal as almost to the floor due to missing the alignment pins and causing uneven wear on the drivers side brake pads. Replaced the pins and the pedal would almost be to the floor.
